PURPOSE OF THE EVENT

Since we are experiencing disastrous events such as
earthquakes, typhoons, heavy rains, and the like, it is
essential for us to be prepared and have enough knowledge
on what to do before, during, and after a disaster. Giving a
proportion of the effect of various peril occasions —
expected number of harmed structures, fatalities and
wounds, optional risks — makes it conceivable to layout nitty-
gritty and sensible designs for better reaction to fiascos,
which can at last decrease the seriousness of unfriendly
regular occasions. Assuming those presented with dangers
know nothing about their risks, it is challenging to perceive
how or why families, organizations, or state-run
administrations would put resources into lessening their
gambling levels. Notwithstanding, while risk mindfulness
might be a precondition, the significance individuals connect
to dealing with their dangers must be perceived concerning
the full scope of social, financial, regional, and natural
limitations and the open doors they face.

"Emergency Preparedness: Be Disaster Aware, Take Action

to Prepare" webinar, conducted by the students from MLS-1B
of the University of the Immaculate Conception, highlights
the reliance of each individual and the awareness that ought
to be upheld by preparing during calamities. This event
aimed to raise awareness in our community so that people
would know what to do in times of disaster and encourage
people to be equipped and prepared for a disaster.
Altogether at risk of catastrophes, we are called to equip the
items that ought to be helpful as well as prepare ourselves.
OPENING REMARKS

KRYSTAL DIONZON
MAYOR OF MLS-1B

To our teacher, Ms. April Joy Parilla, To our speaker, Mr. Paul
Abenoja, to all the CMBS students, to MLS-1B, our friends, family,
viewers, Ladies and Gentlemen, Good day! Emergency
preparedness refers to the steps you take to ensure your
safety before, during, and after an emergency. It is known to
be the discipline of dealing with and avoiding both natural and
man-made disasters. It involves mitigation, preparedness,
response, and recovery in order to lessen the impact of
disasters and public health threats.

I feel honoured to welcome all the parents, viewers and my

fellow students to take a keen part in this important
programme. I am sure that you all will feel enriched with
knowledge after the completion of this event. I welcome you all
once again to the seminar and hope that you will all have a
great time ahead. Thank you, and God bless!

SNAKE
The snake was associated with Asclepios, the ancient Greek God of
healing, and was regarded to possess medicinal properties. It was
believed to be capable of curing ill or injured persons merely by
touching them. Snakes are related with pharmacology and antisepsis
because they have antivenom against their own poison.

CADUCEUS
The winged figure in the center is known as a Caduceus, and the
stick in the center is Hermes' staff. The Caduceus is a medical emblem
that consists of a staff with two coiled snakes and two wings at the top.
Caduceus was a symbol of professionalism even before accreditations
were available. The use of two snakes is a tribute to attempts to make
the trade more professional and accountable. The structure of DNA is
represented by the double helix or spiral that surrounds the wings and
snake.

EMERGENCY RESPONSE
The logo at the rear of the caduceus and snake
conveys the theme of emergency response safety.

STUDENT'S REFLECTION
DURING SEMINAR
The key to decreasing the loss of life, personal injuries, and
property damage caused by natural disasters is extensive public
knowledge and education. People must be made aware of the
environmental threats that may exist in their own areas. They
should be aware of the precise preparations to be made prior to
an event, what to do during a hurricane, earthquake, flood, fire, or
other likely disaster, and what steps to take in its aftermath. Being
informed will equip you with knowledge, and if you have
knowledge, you will know what you need to do and where you
need to go to improve your chances of saving and being saved.
(CASTRONUEVO,2022)

The Philippines is very prone to natural disasters, especially

typhoons. In times of disasters, it is very beneficial to us if we
are prepared for it and have the knowledge of what to do as
essential services may be unavailable, and emergency
responders may be limited. Through the webinar, I was
reminded of these again, and I was also able to attain new
essential knowledge. I was encouraged to be prepared for
potential catastrophes to minimize the disaster's impact.
Disasters can occur at any time, and without warning, thus,
it is better to be prepared before it's too late.
(COSMEÑO,2022)

Planning is an essential factor as part of

responsiveness in all aspects of life; it is the
most influential phase, yet it is frequently
disregarded since it requires a great deal of
effort. Planning includes raising awareness
through effective education and gearing up
for the scenario. (DILANGALEN, 2022)

Emergencies and natural disasters can strike

at any time and in the most unlikely ways, so
being prepared and armed with knowledge
is better than not being prepared at all.
(DIONZON,2022)
Prevention is better than cure, it is
essential to plan how to prevent disasters
from happening. Being able to avoid the
consequences of unpreventable disasters
not only benefits humans but also the
environment. (ELFA,2022)

Throughout the seminar, from the process of making the flow

to the day of the program I realized the importance of
teamwork and being able to reach out to the different
committees. It is indeed difficult to discuss things with the
setting but we were able to present the program
successfully. As for me I was also collaborating with the
other committee members such as the creatives for the
poster and the technical team for my intermission number. I
was also given tasks to do that required collaboration with
the other teams but it was quite easy since they were all
helping each other out. (LITANON,2022)

Awareness is a reflection of mother nature;

helpless perceptions could lead us to
tragedy. Being aware, Being ready is a good
line of a consciousness person.
(JAZON,2022)

Whether man-made or natural, a disaster can

strike at any time and from any location. The
general response to any disaster is related to
rescue and relief actions immediately following
the occurrence. It is pretty simple to decrease
the impact of a disaster if we are well and
adequately prepared. We may lessen the
impact by increasing awareness and
comprehension of all preventive efforts and
knowing specific tools and procedures. (MARTIJE
K.,2022)
In the event of a disaster, most people are usually
taken by surprise because they are not prepared for
the worst that could happen. With this seminar, we
were made aware of what we must do in preparing
for ‘doomsday’ so that we would be able to
recuperate from it, as well. Our ability to plan and
invest time in order to be ready was tested when we
were preparing for the seminar which resulted in a
fruitful event and we were able to realize the strong
points of specific individuals (MARTIJE S.,2022)

Professionals consider emergencies

overwhelming and stressful. Our comprehension
skills may deteriorate, particularly when we have
not previously received training for trying to deal
with the type of situation you have been
confronted with. Emergency preparedness
ensures that you also have the requisite
qualifications and mindset to deal with a disaster.
(NARANJO,2022)

Planning is the process of considering the

activities required to accomplish a particular
objective. It helps us to focus on what is the
desired goal. Through this seminar, we
became more aware and knowledgeable
about what to do during a disaster. (NUÑALA,
2022)

Disasters nowadays are becoming more and more

evident in our communities. Thus, it is important for
each and every one of us to be prepared when it comes
to these kinds of calamities and disasters. The seminar
was a really great stepping stone for all of us, especially
as students since we will be able to not only use this
knowledge for ourselves but also to help other people in
times of calamities. The webinar introduced me to the
importance and relevance of being alert and prepared
at all times, not only in disasters, but in life as well.
(PORZA, 2022)
Disasters are unpredictable, it can cause
chaos, carnage, loss, destruction, and
devastation to human life as well as property.
Learning things about disaster management is
very essential for us to survive in the case of a
natural or major man-made disaster. This will
help us respond and recover in order to lessen
the impact of a sudden disaster. (SILAYON,
2022)

Having this fundamental education about

emergency preparedness from the
webinar that I attended can play an
essential role in my life; being ready all of
the time could save your life from any
calamity that strikes unexpectedly.
(SOLIVIO, 2022)

I believed that after the webinar, all of us now

can take action whenever an unforeseen
disaster occurs in our country. Protecting life,
the environment, and property require being
prepared and planning ahead. (VILLARMA,
2022)

The lessons that I learned in this seminar is to

be aware in all of the challenges that we will
face, through this seminar I will be able to
enhance my knowledge and take actions
whenever there is tragedies that will into our
way. Taking action to prepare will save us
from danger rather to wait for the solution
and cure. (LIRAZAN, 2022)
Being prepared to any disaster can save your
life and to other people. Any disaster can
happen anytime and anywhere prevention
and prepare can lessen the impact of disaster
to our life and the community.
(BUSTAMANTE,2022)

This event freshened the things that I learned back last year
when we took a seminar as first-aiders in our construction
company. It was very nice to hear and relearn the things that I
used to learn especially the CPR part since it was my favorite
part but it is also exhausting. I learned the importance of
knowing the things to do before, during, and after a disastrous
event. I also learned that not everyone can have this
opportunity of learning this kind of thing but I do hope that the
government will give attention to this matter and give
everyone the chance to learn things like this in order for them
to somehow prevent loss of life or injuries during a disastrous
event. (AUTENTICO,2022)

Involving students in disaster preparation and recovery

operations can assist in not only raising their understanding of
particular hazards but also increasing the likelihood that they
will openly discuss how to appropriately protect their family
and loved ones and understand how to seek help if their
community is affected. The webinar showed me the value of
teamwork. It pulls people together and encourages them to
rely on one another to complete tasks. To tie this to our topic,
building teamwork to deal with disaster can make a
significant difference and save many lives. (CANUMAY,2022)

Being prepared in dangerous situations is

very important because you can help not
only yourself, but also you can help other
people to get them to safety. In that kind
of situation, it is important to be prepared
and help one another. (AZARCON,2022)
Disasters and emergencies can strike at any time and
in any place. The nature of an emergency is
unpredictable, and its scope and impact might or
might not shift. Through the seminar, I have further
understood and realized that the proper
management of an incident requires planning ahead
of time, training everyone on the plan, and continually
reviewing and improving it. Ignoring risks and
attempting to figure things out after the fact is
pointless. (BAGARRA,2022)

The webinar helps the audience and

viewers to further understand the
importance of Emergency Preparedness.
We plan before we act, it is an essential way
which can help us, especially during
calamities. (COLLADO,2022)

Our natural environment is slowly disappearing, and

threats, disasters, and vulnerability are increasing,
but capacities are ready to be utilized. Hazards exist
everywhere, whether in a person, a group, or a
society, and they will only become a tragedy if care
and precaution are not taken. I learnt that we must
understand our vulnerabilities in order to reduce
them and familiarize our capacities in order to
manage them. (DEMOTOR,2022)

Learning disaster management skills is

critical if we are to survive a natural or man-
made calamity. Similarly, when natural
disasters happen, humans cannot control
them. However, we can prevent them.
(JALANDONI,2022)
We do not know what will happen tomorrow,
the next day, or even next year. I have
learned that it is crucial to learn and be
aware of the things that we need to do
during emergencies because these
learnings will aid us if we encounter one in
the future. Through this, we will keep
ourselves and our families safe.
(LUMANAO,2022)

Accidents and emergencies can occur at any time

and from any location. The occurrence of a case
emergency is unexpected, and its range and effect
can change. It is crucial to be fully ready and plan
accordingly in order to protect lives, the environment,
and property. Thus, developing a program in advance,
planning ahead of time, training everybody on the
program, and constantly assessing it are critical to
incident management success. (ORTIZ,2022)

Disaster is something we can’t just predict, whereas

through this webinar, it opened our eyes for a better
understanding of what we need to do when disaster
occurs. This webinar helps us conduct effective
disaster response while reducing risks that similar
disasters will reoccur. It also ensures that our
emergency response does no harm by replacing or
reinstating critical vulnerabilities. It helps us to be
more alert, where we can plan ahead of time for it is
something unpredictable. (TADENA,2022)

Obtaining such basic education about

emergency preparedness from the webinar
that I attended can play an important role in
my life. Being prepared all of the time could
save your life and might also save others
from any disaster that comes with or without
warning. (TINIO, 2022)
Securing contingency plans and planning
every aspect with the best team made the
event successful. I have acquired additional
knowledge about disaster preparedness
and its significance in the practice of my
profession and its application in real-life
scenarios. It is always better to be safe than
be sorry (ROGERO, 2022).

I have gained knowledge that it is very

crucial to learn about emergency
response so as to be critically aware
and prepared on what will gonna do
when emergencies or any disasters will
happen. Disaster preparedness is vital in
all ways to lessen disaster calamities.
(BALDONADO, 2022)

The seminar offered an

opportunity for students to
showcase their various skills in
seminar planning. It taught us the
importance of true collaboration.
(ALANUNAY, 2022)

In the event of a natural disaster, having a

preparedness plan can be a critical
element in helping secure a safe transition
out of danger for you, your loved ones and
your property. In the seminar conducted I
have learned that preparation is a key,
and it is also important to stay calm and
focused during an emergency.
(EGLORIA, 2022)
The seminar had given me an opportunity
to gain new important information that
could help in times of disaster and
emergency. It was an incredible
experience to be able to learn the
methods of planning as well as the proper
methods of dealing with disaster victims.
(ANDANTE, 2022)

What I have realized in conducting the seminar

is that everything will undergo a process and
teamwork is very important in order to achieve
the goals as a section. Aside from that, patience
is also important, especially to those factors
that we are out of control. Lastly, it is very worth
it because we have learned something valuable
throughout the process.
(AGBON, 2022)
CLOSING REMARKS

JAZELLE VILLARMA
VICE MAYOR OF MLS-1B

Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. I believe that during this seminar, all of
us have obtained a fruitful discussion. In this Emergency Response and Safety
Seminar Workshop 2022 prepared by MLS - 1B whose main theme is “Emergency

from the keynote session delivered by the amazing speaker, a seminar which is
delivered by very interactive workshop instructor, and have shared his interesting
work, Mr. Paul Abenoja, President of Tagum Junior Responder. Once again, on
behalf of the committee, thank you for delivering such important materials so that all
of us can deepen our knowledge about Emergency Response and Safety.

Furthermore, I would like to thank all participants and LIVE viewers who have
joined this seminar from all over the world. I sincerely hope that through the
presentation and discussion afterward of our speaker, all of us can take action
whenever an unforeseen disaster occurs in our country.

Finally, I would like to thank all the committee members of MLS - 1B for
organizing this seminar and ensuring that it proceeded smoothly. I would also like to
apologize for any inconvenience that you might experience during this seminar.
Ladies and gentlemen, there is a saying “when there is a meeting, then there will be
goodbye”. I thank you once again for your participation and wish you all a safe
journey always.
