The issue of drug abuse has already been with us for a very long time. Knowing
the adverse effects of drug abuse in the society’s culture and general well-being, many
measures have been proposed and implemented by experts in order to reduce and
relieve, if not totally eradicate these effects. One such measure is drug prevention
education. Because of the rapid increase of crime rates and drug abuse in the country,
educating people more specifically students or youth, who are subject to temptation for
illegal drugs, is needed. To address this problem, the Philippine National Police
conducted a symposium in Southern Leyte State University , San Juan Campus on the
7th day of December 2022, at 9:00 in the morning that was attended by the teachers,
faculty and staff and all of the NSTP – CWTS students in Southern Leyte State
University, San Juan Campus. The speaker told us the harmful effects of drug abuse.
They also emphasized the social, emotional and physical dangers of abuse of illegal
drugs. More importantly the legal responsibility and liability of users and pushers were
discussed. The Youth’s involvement in the anti-drug campaign is a necessary step
because the youth play an important part in helping stop the spread of illegal drugs in
our country.
This program aims to raise awareness to the society especially to the youth the
importance of drug awareness as it be ensuring us a safety and preventive measure
away from drugs. It will evoke the students to realize the significance of the
preservation and protection of our life away from drugs. This activity is a great
opportunity to open up another door to for us to do something to educate people
against to stop or prevent doing drugs. We may not be able to put everything back into
place but the thing is that we at least tried.
