1) What is the Internet?

ANS: Internet is an interconnection of thousands of networks. The Internet providing a variety of information and communication facilities,
consisting of interconnected networks using standardized communication protocols. One of the major Applications of the internet is the
World Wide Web.

2) What is the Network ?

Ans: A Network consists of two or more computers that are connected in order to share resources, exchange files, or allow electronic
communications. The computers on a network may be connected through cables, telephone lines, radio waves, satellites etc.

3) What is the World Wide Web( WWW) ?

Ans: The World Wide Web (WWW), also known as the Web, is an interconnected network of websites and documents accessible through
the Internet. www was started in 1989 by Tim Berners-Lee at CERN Laboratory.

4) What is Client Server Model ?

Ans: The client-server model describes the communication between two computing entities over a network.
Clients are the ones requesting a resource or service and Servers are the ones providing that resource or service.

5) What is LAN ?

Ans: A local area network (LAN) is a collection of devices connected together in one small range location, such as a building, office, or home.
LAN is generally limited to specific geographical area less than 2km. supporting high speed network. Home WiFi networks and small business
networks are common examples of LANs.
6) What is MAN?

Ans: A metropolitan area network (MAN) is a computer network that connects computers within a metropolitan area, which could be a
single large city, multiple cities and towns, or any given large area with multiple buildings. A MAN is larger than a local area network (LAN)
but smaller than a wide area network (WAN). MANs do not have to be in urban areas; the term "metropolitan" implies the size of the
network, not the demographics of the area that it serves.

7) What is WAN?

Ans: A wide area network (WAN) is a large computer network that connects groups of computers over large distances. WANs are often
used by large businesses to connect their office networks; each office typically has its own local area network, or LAN, and these LANs
connect via a WAN.

8) Define Browser ?

Ans: A browser is a software program that is used to explore, retrieve, and display the information available on the World Wide Web. This
information may be in the form of pictures, web pages, videos, and other files that all are connected via hyperlinks and categorized with
the help of URL . Example: Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge etc.

9) What is Hypertext?

Ans: Hypertext provides the links between different documents and different document types. In a hypertext document, links from one
place in the document to another are included with the text. By selecting a link, you are able to jump immediately to another part of the
document or even to a different document. In the WWW, links can go not only from one document to another, but from one computer to
another.
10) What is the use of HTTP Protocol?

Ans: The Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) is the foundation of the World Wide Web, and is used to load webpages using hypertext links.
HTTP is an application layer protocol designed to transfer information between networked devices and runs on top of other layers of the
network protocol stack. A typical flow over HTTP involves a client machine making a request to a server, which then sends a response
message. HTTP relies heavily on two other standards. MIME (Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions), HTML

11) Define Firewall.

Ans: The hardware and software that sits between the Internet and the local network, checking all the data that comes and goes out is
called “firewalls”. The security is provided using SSL(Secure Socket Layer) in internet.

12) Define Modem.

Ans: Modem stands for ‘MOdulator DEModulator’. It refers to a device used for conversion between analog signals and digital bits. We
know computers store and process data in terms of 0s and 1s. However, to transmit data from a sender to a receiver, or while browsing
the internet, digital data are converted to an analog signal and the medium (be it free-space or a physical media) carries the signal to the
receiver. There are modems connected to both the source and destination nodes. The modem at the sender’s end acts as a modulator that
converts the digital data into analog signals.

13) What is a URL?

Ans: A URL (Uniform Resource Locator) is a unique identifier used to locate a resource on the Internet. It is also referred to as a web address.

Example of URL : www.google.com
