Chapter 1 Overview

1.1 Introduction
Hik MIP plug-ins are used for the Milestone Integration Platform SDK. They can provide basic
services for the interaction between Hikvision devices and the Milestone server, convert the data
in Hikvision protocol format to Milestone-defined format, and analyze the data obtained from the
Milestone server.
Hik MIP plug-ins include:
Hikvision-mngt-plugin
This plug-in contains ANPR component. After installation, on the Management Client, you can
configure ANPR alarm receiving parameters, set alarm linkage rules, etc.
Hikvision-smartclient-plugin
This plug-in contains multiple components, including Common (required), ANPR, Face
Application, People Counting, and Fisheye. After installation, you can receive alarms on the Smart
Client.
Hikvision-EventServer-Plugin
This plug-in contains Alarm (Required) component. After installation, analytic events of cameras
can be uploaded.
Hikvision-Driver
The Hikvision-Driver plug-in can help you arm devices automatically after they are added to the
Xprotect Recording Server. When the device is armed, the device events and alarm can be
triggered and uploaded by Hikvision devices, and then you can receive them on Milestone
XProtect Smart Client.

1.2 Runtime Environment


The software and hardware environment in which the Milestone XProtect client software can be
installed and run are required, and the system environment for installing Hik MIP Plugins is the
same as that for installing the Milestone XProtect client software with version 2020 R2 and later
versions.

Note
● The Milestone XProtect client software cannot be installed in the computer running with 32-bit
operating system. For details about the supported runtime environment, refer to the User
Manual of Milestone XProtect VMS.
● Device Pack with version 10.9b and later versions are supported.

Chapter 2 Installation and Uninstallation

2.1 Install Plug-ins


Hik MIP plug-ins are provided through installation packages, so you can install the plug-ins in
different paths or computers as required.

Note
The Hik MIP plug-ins cannot be installed when the Milesone XProtect client software is running.

2.1.1 Install Hikvision-Driver Plug-in


The Hikvision-Driver plug-in can help you arm devices automatically after they are added to the
Xprotect Recording Server. When the device is deleted on the server, it is disarmed automatically.
When the device is armed, the alarms can be triggered and uploaded by Hikvision devices, and
then you can receive them on Milestone XProtect Smart Client. Besides, the Hikvision-Driver plug-
in also supports uploading devices event alarms, including Disk Full, Disk Error, and so on. You
should install Hikvision-Driver plug-in on the computer running with the Milestone XProtect
Management Client before you can accessing Hikvision devices on the Management Client
Before You Start
● Make sure you have installed Milestone XProtect Management Client. For details about the

installation of the Management Client, refer to the User Manual of Milestone XProtect VMS.
● Before installing the Hikvision-Driver plug-in, you should close the Xprotect Recording Server.

After installing the plug-in, you need to restart the server.


Steps

Note
For the distributed deployment scheme, HikAsssitantService plug-in can be installed in an
independent computer without any Milestone server.
1. Double-click the executable program file of Hikvision-Driver plugin.
2. Click Next to start the installation wizard.
3. Click Browse... to select a proper directory as the installation location to install the plug-in.

Note
When installing the plug-ins on the Milestone XProtect client software 2017 R3, the installation
location must be the default path of C:\Program Files\Milestone\MIPPlugins defined by the
client software. For other versions of the Milestone XProtect client software, contact the
Milestone technical support to get the default installation location of the plug-ins.
4. Click Install.

5. Click Finish.
What to do next
Double-click Milestone XProtect Management Client, and the installed plug-in will be loaded
automatically.

2.1.2 Install Hikvision-EventServer-Plugin


You should install Hikvision-EventServer-Pluginp on the computer running with Milestone XProtect
Management Client before you can configure event and alarm receiving parameters for Hikvision
cameras on the Management Client. After installing this pug-in, you do not need to add Analytics
Events on Milestone XProtect Management Client manually.
Before You Start
● Make sure you have installed Milestone XProtect Management Client. For details about the

installation of the Management Client, refer to the User Manual of Milestone XProtect VMS.
● Before installing the Hikvision-EventServer-Plugin, you should close the Xprotect Event Server.

After installing the plug-in, you need to restart the event server.
Steps

Note
For the distributed deployment scheme, Hik MIP plug-ins can be installed in an independent
computer without any Milestone server.
1. Double-click the executable program file of Hikvision-EventServer-Plugin.
2. Click Next to start the installation wizard.
3. Click Browse... to select an installation directory.

Note
When installing the plug-ins on the Milestone XProtect client software 2017 R3, the installation
location must be the default path of C:\Program Files\Milestone\MIPPlugins defined by the
client software. For other versions of the Milestone XProtect client software, contact the
Milestone technical support to get the default installation location of the plug-ins.
4. Select whether to store all alarm pictures on XProtect event server or not.

Note
If you need to modify the setting, you can go to the Milestone XProtect Management Client to
modify it. Make sure you have installed the Milestone XProtect Management Client.

5. Click Install.
6. Click Finish.
What to do next
Double-click Milestone XProtect Management Client, and the installed plug-in will be loaded
automatically.

2.1.3 Install Hikvision-mngt-plugin


You should install Hik MIP plug-ins in the computer running with Milestone XProtect Management
Client before you can configure alarm receiving parameters for Hikvision cameras the Management
Client.
Before You Start
Make sure you have installed Milestone XProtect Management Client. For details about the
installation of the Management Client, refer to the User Manual of Milestone XProtect VMS.
Steps

Note
For the distributed deployment scheme, HikAsssitantService plug-in can be installed in an
independent computer without any Milestone server.
1. Double-click the executable program file of Hikvision-mngt-plugin.
2. Click Next to start the installation wizard.
3. Check the component ad needed.

You can also click Next directly to install all plug-ins.
4. Click Browse... to select an installation directory.

Note
When installing the plug-ins on the Milestone XProtect client software 2017 R3, the installation
location must be the default path of C:\Program Files\Milestone\MIPPlugins defined by the
client software. For other versions of the Milestone XProtect client software, contact the
Milestone technical support to get the default installation location of the plug-ins.
5. Click Install.
6. Click Finish.
What to do next
Double-click Milestone XProtect Management Client to run the client software, and the installed
plug-in will be loaded automatically.

2.1.4 Install Hikvision-smartclient-plugin


You should install the component you need on the computer running with Milestone XProtect
Smart Client before you can use the corresponding functions on the Milestone XProtect Smart
Client.
Before You Start
Make sure you have installed Milestone XProtect Smart Client. For details about the installation of
the Smart Client, refer to the User Manual of Milestone XProtect Smart Client.
Steps
1. Double-click the executable program file of Hikvision-smartclient-plugin.
2. Click Next to start the installation wizard.
3. Click Browse... to select an installation directory.

When installing the plug-in on the Milestone XProtect client software 2017 R3, the installation
location must be the default path of C:\Program Files\Milestone\MIPPlugins defined by the
client software. For other versions of the Milestone XProtect client software, contact the
Milestone technical support to get the default installation location of the plug-ins.
4. Click Install.
5. Click Finish.
What to do next
Double-click Milestone XProtect Smart Client to run the client software, and the installed plug-in
will be loaded automatically.

2.2 Uninstall Plug-ins


Hik MIP plug-ins provide the uninstallation wizard for users to uninstall any of the installed plug-
ins. And you can keep the history configuration files to restore the previous settings for next
installation. Here we only take uninstalling Hikvision-mngt-plugin plug-in as an example.
Before You Start
● Make sure you have stopped running the plug-in which needs to be uninstalled.

● Before uninstalling the plug-in, you should close the Xprotect Event Server. After uninstalling the

plug-in, you need to restart the server.


Steps
1. Perform one of the following operations to start the uninstallation wizard.
- Open the Control Panel on the computer and click Programs → Programs and Features →
Hikvision-mngt-plugin → Uninstall to open the uninstallation confirmation dialog.

Note
For uninstalling the old version of Hik MIP plug-ins, you are recommended to start the
uninstallation wizard in this way.
- Double-click the AdminSer_uninst.exe program file in the installation directory of Hikvision-
mngt-plugin to open the uninstallation confirmation dialog.

Note
If you need to uninstall the Hikvision-Driver plug-in or the Hikvision-smartclient-plugin, you
can double-click the uninst.exe program file in the installation directory of the corresponding
plug-in.
- Double-click the installation package to uninstall the corresponding plug-in.
2. Click Yes to start uninstalling the plug-in.

Note
If you are prompted to reboot the computer to complete the uninstallation, please ignore the
prompt which may be caused by the following reasons:
● The plug-in is still running when being uninstalled.

● The installation directory folder of the plug-in is open.

3. Click OK to complete the uninstallation.

Chapter 3 Device Access Configuration

3.1 Add Hikvision Device


Hikvision devices should be added to Milestone XProtect before you can do any other
configurations and operations using Hik MIP plug-ins, such as live view, playback, receiving events
and alarms, etc.
Before You Start
● Make sure you have installed Milestone XProtect Management Client. For details about the

installation of the Management Client, refer to the User Manual of Milestone XProtect VMS.
● Make sure you have installed the Hikvision-Driver plug-in on the computer running with the

Milestone XProtect Management Client. For details, refer to Install Hikvision-Driver Plug-in .
Steps
1. Log in to Milestone XProtect Management Client.
2. Click Servers → Recording Servers in the Site Navigation panel to show the organization list of
Recording Server.
3. Select a computer in the organization list and click Action → Add Hardware... in the upper-left
corner of the home page to open the Add Hardware wizard page.
4. Select Manual as the hardware detection method and click Next.
5. Click Add at the right, enter the user name and password of the device, and click Next.

Note
We highly recommend you to create a strong password of your own choosing (using a minimum
of 8 characters, including at least three kinds of following categories: upper case letters, lower
case letters, numbers, and special characters) in order to increase the security of your product.
And we recommend you change your password regularly, especially in the high security system,
changing the password monthly or weekly can better protect your product.
6. Under the Hikvision node, check HikDriver used to scan for the device, and click Next.

7. Set the information (including IP address, port No., and hardware model) for the device that you
want to add.

Note
If you want to add the device via HTTPS, make sure the device supports HTTPS.
- Enter IP address and port No. of the device in the corresponding fields, and select HikDriver
from the Hardware model drop-down list.
- Click Add at the right to set the information for multiple devices with the same user name and
password, enter IP address and port No. of each device, and select HikDriver from the
Hardware model drop-down list for each device.

Note
We highly recommend you to create a strong password of your own choosing (using a
minimum of 8 characters, including at least three kinds of following categories: upper case
letters, lower case letters, numbers, and special characters) in order to increase the security of
your product. And we recommend you change your password regularly, especially in the high
security system, changing the password monthly or weekly can better protect your product.
8. Click Next to start detecting the added device.
9. Click Next to connect Milestone XProtect to the device and get the device information.
10. Click Next to select the component(s) of the device as needed to enable and set the name
template.

Note
The microphone port and the speaker port need to be checked to if you want to use the two-
way audio of the device.
11. Click Next to select group(s) for the added device component(s).
12. Click Finish.
The added device will be listed in the recording server organization list, and you can view the
properties and live view of the linked camera.

3.2 Set Stream Information of Device


After adding devices, you can set stream information of devices.
Select a camera and click Settings tab in Properties pane to set the parameters as needed.

3.3 Device Alarm Receiving Settings


To receive alarms of device/analytics events uploaded by Hikvision devices on Milestone XProtect
Smart Client, you should configure the event and alarm receiving parameters on Milestone
XProtect Management Client, including adding corresponding device event types, and setting
alarm definition.

3.3.1 Receive Alarm of Device Event


Before you can receive alarms about device status, you should add device event type and set the
alarm definition.

Add Device Event Type


To receive the device event alarm information on Milestone XProtect Smart Client, you should add
the predefined device event type to Milestone XProtect Management Client as the alarm triggering
event.
Before You Start
● Make sure you have installed and loaded the Hikvision-Driver plug-in on the computer running

with Milestone XProtect Management Client. For details, refer to Install Hikvision-Driver Plug-
in .
● Make sure you have added devices to Milestone XProtect. For details, refer to Add Hikvision

Device .

Steps

Note
You can view the device events supported by the Hikvision-Driver plug-in in Supported Device
Events .
1. Log in to Milestone XProtect Management Client.
2. Click Servers → Recording Servers to select a camera.
3. In Properties panel, click Events tab.
4. Click Add... to open the Select Driver Event window.
The events supported by the selected device will be displayed.
5. Click the event to be added and click OK.
The selected event will be displayed in the Configured events area.

Note
● You can repeat the step 5 to add more events.

● You can click an event and click Delete to delete the event.

6. Do one of the following to save the settings.


- Click at the top of the Site Navigation panel to save the settings.
- Click other areas and click Yes in the pop-up confirmation window to save the settings.

Set Alarm Definition for Device Event


After adding the device event type, you should configure alarm definition, such as triggering event,
triggering source, alarm activation period, operator actions, and so on, on Milestone XProtect
Management Client before you can receive device alarms on Milestone XProtect Smart Client. You
can view device event alarms in Alarm Manager tab.
Before You Start
● Make sure you have installed and loaded the Hikvision-Driver plug-in on the computer running

with Milestone XProtect Management Client. For details, refer to Install Hikvision-Driver Plug-
in .
● Make sure you have added devices to Milestone XProtect. For details, refer to Add Hikvision

Device .
Steps
1. Log in to Milestone XProtect Management Client.
2. Click Alarms → Alarm Definitions in the Site Navigation panel to open the alarm settings page.
3. Select the root organization in the Alarm Definitions panel and click Action → Add New... in the
upper-left corner of the home page to activate the Properties panel at right.
4. Enter the event linkage name and event linkage instructions in the Alarm definition area.

Note
You are recommended to set the event linkage name to the same value as the corresponding
event type name.
5. Select Device Events as the major type of Triggering event and activate the minor type field, and
then select the minor type of Triggering event.
6. Click Select... in the Source field to open the Select Sources dialog and select the triggering
sources.
7. Optional: Set other event parameters, such as alarm activation period, operator actions, and so
on. For details about the alarm configuration, refer to User Manual of Milestone XProtect VMS.
8. Click at the top of the Site Navigation panel to save the settings.
9. Optional: If you do not need to receive the alarms of a specific device, you can go to the Settings
tab, right-click a device, and select Disabled to disable it. The alarms of the device will not be
uploaded.

3.3.2 Set Alarm Definition for Analytics Event


You should configure alarm definition, such as triggering event, triggering source, alarm activation
period, operator actions, and so on, on Milestone XProtect Management Client before you can
receive alarms on Milestone XProtect Smart Client.
Steps
1. Log in to Milestone XProtect Management Client.
2. Click Alarms → Alarm Definitions in the Site Navigation panel to open the alarm settings page.
3. Select the root organization in the Alarm Definitions panel and click Action → Add New... in the
upper-left corner of the home page to activate the Properties panel at right.
4. Enter the event linkage name and event linkage instructions in the Alarm definition area.

Note
You are recommended to set the event linkage name to the same value as the corresponding
event type name.
5. Select Analytics Events as the major type of Triggering event and activate the minor type field,
and then select the minor type of Triggering event.
6. Click Select... in the Source field to open the Select Sources dialog and select the triggering
sources.
7. Optional: Set other event parameters, such as alarm activation period, operator actions, and so
on. For details about the alarm configuration, refer to User Manual of Milestone XProtect VMS.
8. Click at the top of the Site Navigation panel to save the settings.

3.3.3 View Alarms


After enabling alarm receiving and setting alarm receiving parameters, cameras configured with
alarm rules will automatically send the alarm information to Milestone XProtect Smart Client once
the alarm is triggered, and you can log in to the Smart Client to receive alarms and view alarm
details.
Before You Start
Make sure you have installed Hikvision-EventServer-Plugin on the computer running with
Milestone XProtect Management Client. For details, refer to Install Hikvision-EventServer-Plugin .
Steps
1. Log in to Milestone XProtect Smart Client.
2. Click Alarm Manager tab to enter the alarm management page for receiving and viewing alarms.

Chapter 4 ANPR

4.1 Introduction
The Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) function provides an intelligent yet highly
intuitive solution for parking lots or traffic management. This function helps recognize the license
plates of passing vehicles or on captured vehicle pictures, and then define the passing rules or
configure lists to control the entrance and exit of vehicles.

4.2 Alarm Receiving Settings


To receive event and alarm information uploaded by Hikvision devices on Milestone XProtect
Smart Client, you should configure the event and alarm receiving parameters on Milestone
XProtect Management Client via settng alarm definition.

Note
Before configurations, you need to:
● Make sure you have installed and loaded the ANPR component on the computer running with

Milestone XProtect Management Client. For details, refer to Install Hikvision-mngt-plugin .


● Make sure you have installed Hikvision-EventServer-Pluginp on the computer running with

Milestone XProtect Management Client. For details, refer to Install Hikvision-EventServer-


Plugin .
● Make sure you have added the Hikvision device with ANPR function to Milestone XProtect. For

details, refer to Add Hikvision Device .

4.2.1 Set ANPR Alarm Definition


You should configure alarm definition, such as triggering event, triggering source, alarm activation
period, operator actions, and so on, on Milestone XProtect Management Client before you can
receive the ANPR information on Milestone XProtect Smart Client.
Steps
1. Log in to Milestone XProtect Management Client.
2. Click Alarms → Alarm Definitions in the Site Navigation panel to open the alarm settings page.
3. Select the root organization in the Alarm Definitions panel and click Action → Add New... in the
upper-left corner of the home page to activate the Properties panel at right.
4. Enter the event linkage name and event linkage instructions in the Alarm definition area.

Note
The name of the ANPR event linkage must be the same as that of the added ANPR event type
which you want to set event linkage for.
5. Select Analytics Events as the major type of Triggering event and activate the minor type field,
and then select the minor type of Triggering event.

Note
● If the alarm name is ANPR_NoMtach, then you can save alarms of all vehicles.
● After adding the license plate list as an analytics event, you can configure alarm definition on
Milestone XProtect Management Client before you can receive the license plate list alarms on
Milestone XProtect Smart Client.
The name of the ANPR alarm must be the same as that of the added license plate list.

6. Click Select... in the Source field to open the Select Sources dialog and select the triggering
sources.
7. Optional: Set other event parameters, such as alarm activation period, operator actions, and so
on. For details about the alarm configuration, refer to User Manual of Milestone XProtect VMS.
8. Click at the top of the Site Navigation panel to save the settings.
9. Optional: Click Rules and Events → Rules in the Site Navigation panel to open the rules
configuration page and set event linkage rules for the ANPR analytics events.

Note
You can configure different event linkage rules for ANPR events triggered by different license
plate lists. For example, you can configure video recording for ANPR_List1, audible warning for
ANPR_List2, locking or unlocking the access control point for ANPR_List3, etc. For details about
the rule configuration, refer to the User Manual of Milestone XProtect VMS.

4.2.2 Configure License Plate List


The ANPR plug-in supports customizing license plate lists to manage license plates and control the
vehicle passing according to the ANPR results. You can choose the lists to take effect and edit their
name as desired, and then add license plate information to different lists or directly import
multiple license plates in a batch. You can also export all license plate information of each list to
the local computer.

Note
● Up to 2,000 items of license plate information can be added to each license plate list.
● After configuring license plate lists, you can configure license plate list alarm receiving, and for
details, refer to Set ANPR Alarm Definition .

1. Log in to Milestone XProtect Management Client.


2. Click hikvision → ANPR Configuration in the Site Navigation panel to open the Configuration
page.

3. In the Authorized List Configuration panel, click Add to add a new license plate list.

Note
● If there are no license plate list configured before, click add authorized list.

● Supports up to 64 license plate lists, and 2,000 license plates at most in one list.

4. Check Enable to enable the selected license plate list.


5. Create a license plate list name.

Note
The custom license plate list name will appear on Milestone XProtect Smart Client.
6. Click Add to add a license plate to the selected list or click Import to add license plates in a
batch.

Note
Before importing multiple license plates in a batch, you should click Download template on the
Import dialog to download the list template, fill in the template with the license plate
information, and then import the filled template.
7. Optional: After adding license plates, you can:
Delete Multiple Select multiple added license plate and click Remove to remove
License Plate license plates from the list.
Delete Single License In the Operation column, click the to delete the license plate.

Export License Plate Click Export to export the license plate list in an EXCEL or CSV file to
List your local computer.
8. Optional: In the Authorized List Configuration panel, click the to delete the authorize list.

4.3 View ANPR Alarms


After enabling ANPR function and configuring license plate lists on Milestone XProtect
Management Client, the ANPR camera configured with ANPR alarm rules will automatically send
ANPR information to Milestone XProtect Smart Client once the alarm is triggered. You can log in to
the Smart Client to receive the real-time ANPR alarms, view the alarm details, and search for the
history ANPR alarms.
Before You Start
● Make sure you have installed and loaded the ANPR component on the computer running with

Milestone XProtect Smart Client. For details, refer to Install Hikvision-smartclient-plugin .


● Make sure you have configured the alarm rules for the ANPR or traffic camera via web browser.

For details, refer to the user manual of the ANPR camera or the traffic camera.
Steps
1. Log in to Milestone XProtect Smart Client.
2. Click ANPR tab to enter the ANPR alarm center.
The ANPR alarms are listed in the ANPR Info panel at the bottom of ANPR alarm center. You can
check the alarm time, matched list (if matched), license plate number, alarm source, vehicle
color, vehicle type, etc.

● You can right-click the column name to select columns to be displayed.
● In Custom Search, you can search alarms by entering keywords of the license plate, and the
alarm search conditions displayed vary with real-time alarms and history alarms.

3. Click an ANPR alarm in the list to show the recognized license plate information (including
vehicle picture, license plate picture, license plate number, and so on) and the related alarm
video above the ANPR Info panel.
4. Optional: Perform the following operation(s) to manage or control the ANPR alarms.
View Hover the cursor over the license plate big picture and click / to view the
Previous/ previous or the next picture.

Download Hover the cursor over the picture and click to download the picture to the
Picture local PC. You can click Details to view the downloaded file.

Note
Make sure you have set the saving path of the picture. In the top-right corner
of this page, click → Settings → Hikvision Configuration to set the saving

View Large Hover the cursor over the license plate big picture and click to view the

Current: The alarm data in the current page will be exported.
All: The alarm data in all pages will be exported.
Custom: You can set the start page and the end page. The alarm data in
customized pages will be exported.

Note
● Make sure you have set the saving path of records. In the top-right corner of
this page, click → Settings → Hikvision general options to set the saving
path of records.
● The export progress bar displays in the lower right corner of the ANPR
Alarm Center page. You can click Details to view the exported file.

Export Click beside the progress bar of the video to set the start time and the end
Alarm Video time and then to export the alarm videos recorded during this period to the
local PC. You can click Details to view the exported file.

Note
Make sure you have set the saving path of videos. In the top-right corner of
this page, click → Settings → Hikvision general options to set the saving
path of videos.

Chapter 5 Face Application

5.1 Introduction
The face applications include face capture, face picture comparison, and face picture search. The
face alarms can be triggered by captured face pictures and face picture comparison results and
uploaded by Hikvision cameras (including capture cameras and DeepinView series cameras), and
then you can receive them on Milestone XProtect Smart Client.

5.2 Alarm Receiving Settings


Face alarms contain face capture alarms and face picture comparison alarms. The face capture
alarm is triggered when a human face is detected and captured in a specific monitoring area, and
the captured face picture will be uploaded. The face picture comparison alarm is triggered if the
similarity of the detected face picture and the face picture in the library reaches a threshold.

Before configurations, you need to:
● Make sure you have installed and loaded the Hikvision-mngt-plugin. For details, refer to Install

Hikvision-mngt-plugin .
● Make sure you have installed Hikvision-EventServer-Pluginp on the computer running with

Milestone XProtect Management Client. For details, refer to Install Hikvision-EventServer-


Plugin .
● Make sure you have added the Hikvision capture cameras or DeepinView series cameras to

Milestone XProtect. For details, refer to Add Hikvision Device .

5.2.1 Set Face Alarm Definition


You should configure alarm definition, such as triggering event, triggering source, alarm activation
period, operator actions, and so on, on Milestone XProtect Management Client before you can use
the face applications on Milestone XProtect Smart Client.
Steps
1. Log in to Milestone XProtect Management Client.
2. Click Alarms → Alarm Definitions in the Site Navigation panel to open the alarm settings page.
3. Select the root organization in the Alarm Definitions panel and click Action → Add New... in the
upper-left corner of the home page to activate the Properties panel.

5.3 View Face Alarm


After setting the face alarm filter parameters on the Milestone XProtect Management Client, the
capture camera or DeepinView series camera configured with alarm rules or list library will
automatically send the captured face picture or face picture comparison result to Milestone
XProtect Smart Client after the alarm is triggered. You can log in to the Smart Client to view the
captured face pictures or check the comparison results.
Before You Start
● Make sure you have installed and loaded the Face Application component on the computer

running with Milestone XProtect Smart Client. For details, refer to Install Hikvision-smartclient-
plugin .
● Make sure you have configured the alarm rules or list library for comparison for the capture

camera or DeepinView series camera via web browser. For details about the configuration, refer
to the user manual of corresponding cameras.
Steps
1. Log in to Milestone XProtect Smart Client.
2. Click Face Application tab and click Real-Time Alarm in the upper-right corner of the Face
Application page.

3. Select a camera on the left and drag it to the display window to play the live video streamed
from the camera.

You can click to set the window division.
4. Set parameters to filter real-time alarms.
- View face comparison alarms.
a. In the top-right corner of Face Comparison Alarm area, click
b. Check Camera in Live View to display the face picture comparison alarms of camera(s) in
live view.
c. Optional: Drag to adjust the similarity.

Note
The comparison result(s) whose similarity is greater than the configured value are filtered
from the face picture comparison alarms.
d. Select the camera(s).

- Once Camera in Live View is checked, this function will be unavailable.
- Only the cameras supporting face capture are displayed.
e. Select one or more list libraries.
f. Click Save.

The matched alarms will be shown at the right panel. You can view the alarm details,
including captured face pictures, the matched face pictures belonging to the selected face
picture libraries, comparison results, etc.
- View face capture alarms.
a. In the top-left corner of Face Capture Alarm area, click
b. Check Camera in Live View to display the face capture alarms of camera(s) in live view.
c. Select the camera(s).

- Once Camera in Live View is checked, this function will be unavailable.
- Only the cameras supporting face capture are displayed.
d. Click Save.

The matched captured face thumbnails are displayed under the live window. You can click
or to view the previous or next thumbnails.
5. Optional: Hover the cursor over an alarm picture and click to view the playback related with
the captured picture.

In History Search, you can also perform this operation.

5.4 Add Captured Face Picture to List Library


You can add captured face pictures to list libraries.
Steps
1. Log in to Milestone XProtect Smart Client.
2. Click Face Application tab and click Real-Time Alarm in the upper-right corner of the Face
Application page.

In History Search, you can also add captured face pictures to list libraries according to the

3. In Face Capture Alarm, hover the cursor over a captured picture and click .

4. Select a device and a list library.

Note
● Make sure the selected device has been configured with list libraries.

● You can click to add the picture for more than one cameras and into more than one list
libraries.
5. Set the information of the face picture.
6. Click Add.

5.5 Search by Conditions


You can search for captured face pictures and human body pictures by specific conditions, or
cameras in a time period.
Before You Start
● Make sure you have installed and loaded the Face Application component on the computer

running with Milestone XProtect Smart Client. For details, refer to Install Hikvision-smartclient-
plugin .
● Make sure the face alarms have been triggered and the captured face pictures have been

uploaded.
Steps
1. Log in to Milestone XProtect Smart Client.
2. Click Face Application tab.
3. In the upper-right corner of the Face Application page, click History Search.
4. Select the alarm type.
5. Select a camera.
6. Check Similarity and drag to adjust the similarity.

● The Similarity is not available when the alarm type is face capture.

● The comparison result(s) whose similarity is greater than the configured value are filtered

from the face picture comparison alarms.


7. Set the start time or end time to search for the face pictures captured in this time period.
8. In the Face Attributes area, check the checkbox(es) to set attributes.

Note
For Face Comparison alarm type, you can search alarms by entering keywords of the person
name.
9. If the alarm type is Face Capture, in the Human Attributes area, check the checkbox(es) to set
attributes.
10. Click Search.

Chapter 6 Fisheye

6.1 Introduction
The fisheye expansion function provided by Hik MIP plug-ins can expand views of fisheye cameras.
Multiple different expansion modes are available by combining fisheye view, panorama view, and
PTZ view. You can enable fisheye expansion on Milestone XProtect Smart Client during live view or
playback in fisheye mode, PTZ mode, or panorama mode using Hik MIP plug-ins. You can also
perform fisheye expansion for exported videos played on Milestone XProtect Smart Client Player.

6.2 Configure Fisheye Plug-in


To use the fisheye expansion function during live view or playback, you should firstly add the
fisheye plug-in to the windows in which the views of the linked fisheye cameras need to be
expanded on Milestone XProtect Smart Client.
Before You Start
● Make sure you have installed and loaded the Fisheye component on the computer running with

Milestone XProtect Smart Client. For details, refer to Install Hikvision-smartclient-plugin .


● Make sure you have added the Hikvision fisheye camera to Milestone XProtect. For details, refer

to Add Hikvision Device .


Steps
1. Log in to Milestone XProtect Smart Client.
2. Click Live or Playback tab and click Setup in the upper-right corner of the Live or Playback page
to enter the setup mode.
3. Select a view from the Views panel on the left.

Note
If there is no view available, you need to create one. For details about creating a view, refer to
User Manual of Milestone XProtect Smart Client.
4. Click HikvisionPlugin → Fisheye View Item to select the fisheye plug-in from the System
Overview panel on the left and drag it to the window where the views need to be expanded on
the right.

6.3 Enable Fisheye Expansion


You can perform fisheye expansion for live view, playback, or exported videos of Hikvision fisheye
cameras on Milestone XProtect Smart Client using MIP HikAssistant plug-ins. The views can be
expanded in fisheye mode, panorama mode, or PTZ mode.

Before You Start


● Make sure you have installed the DirectX SDK in the computer running with Milestone XProtect

● Make sure you have installed and loaded the Fisheye component on the computer running with

● Make sure you have added the Hikvision fisheye camera to Milestone XProtect. For details, refer

to Add Hikvision Device .


● Make sure you have configured the Hikvision fisheye camera via web browser. The ratio of I

frame interval to frame rate should be less than 2, and you are recommended to configure I
frame interval the same as the frame rate. For details about the configuration of the fisheye
camera, refer to the user manual of the device.
Steps
1. Log in to Milestone XProtect Smart Client.

Note
When exceptions occur, in the top right corner of this page, go to → Settings → Hikvision
Configuration and check the connection status of HikService to make sure that the service of
MIP HikAssistant plug-ins is running normally before any other operations. You can right-click on
in the system tray of the task bar and click Configuration to view the listening port No. The
HikService Port No. should be the same with the listening port No.

2. Start live view or playback of the added fisheye camera.
For detailed operations of live view or playback on the Smart Client, refer to the User Manual of
Milestone XProtect Smart Client.

3. Click Fisheye Expansion in the upper-right corner of the display window to enable fisheye
expansion.

Note
Make sure that the video stream for live view or playback is normally obtained; otherwise, the
fisheye expansion exception may occur.

4. Click in the lower-left corner of the display window to select the mounting type and the
expansion mode.
Fisheye
The whole wide-angle view of the camera is displayed. This view mode is called Fisheye
because it approximates the vision of a fish's convex eye. The lens produces curvilinear
images of a large area, while distorting the perspective and angles of objects on the image.
Panorama/Dual-180° Panorama/360° Panorama
The distorted fisheye image is transformed to normal perspective image by some calibration
methods.
PTZ
This view mode is the close-up view of some defined area in the fisheye view or panorama
view, and it supports the electronic PTZ function, which is also called e-PTZ. Each PTZ view is

marked on the fisheye view and panorama view with a specific navigation box. You can drag
the navigation box to adjust the PTZ view, or drag the PTZ view to adjust the view to the
desired angle.

Note
● The mounting types are different according to different cameras, and different mounting types
correspond to different expansion modes.
● During playback, views of the fisheye camera can be expanded synchronously when you
control the playback (such as playing the video frame by frame, reverse playback, adjusting
playback speed, and so on).
● If the black screen exception occurs after enabling fisheye expansion, you should check
whether the DirectX SDK has been installed normally.
● The status of fisheye view will be saved when you close the Smart Client.

5. Optional: Click Close Fisheye Expansion in the upper-right corner to stop fisheye expansion of
the camera.
6. Optional: Perform fisheye expansion for the exported video on Milestone XProtect Smart Client
Player.
1) Export the video file to the local computer on Milestone XProtect Smart Client.

Chapter 7 People Counting

7.1 Introduction
The people counting function provides the statistics of line crossing persons detected by the
camera in a specific time period. You can check the real-time people counting information, search
for history people counting statistics, and export the statistics reports to the local computer on
Milestone XProtect Smart Client.

7.2 Alarm Receiving Settings


To receive event and alarm information uploaded by Hikvision devices on Milestone XProtect
Smart Client, you should configure the event and alarm receiving parameters on Milestone
XProtect Management Client via setting alarm definition.

Note
Before configurations, you need to:
● Make sure you have installed and loaded the Hikvision-mngt-plugin on the computer running

with Milestone XProtect Management Client. For details, refer to Install Hikvision-mngt-plugin .
● Make sure you have installed Hikvision-EventServer-Pluginp on the computer running with

Milestone XProtect Management Client. For details, refer to Install Hikvision-EventServer-


Plugin .
● Make sure you have added the Hikvision device with ANPR function to Milestone XProtect. For

details, refer to Add Hikvision Device .

7.2.1 Set People Counting Alarm Definition


You should configure alarm definition, such as triggering event, triggering source, alarm activation
period, operator actions, and so on, on Milestone XProtect Management Client before you can
receive the people counting information on Milestone XProtect Smart Client.
Before You Start
Make sure you have added the Hikvision camera with people counting function to Milestone
XProtect. For details, refer to Add Hikvision Device .
Steps
1. Log in to Milestone XProtect Management Client.
2. Click Alarms → Alarm Definitions in the Site Navigation panel to open the alarm settings page.
3. Select the root organization in the Alarm Definitions panel and click Action → Add New... in the
upper-left corner of the home page to activate the Properties panel at right.

4. Enter PeopleCounting as the event linkage name, and enter event linkage instructions if needed
in the Alarm definition area.
5. Select Analytics Events as the major type of Triggering event and activate the minor type field,
and then select PeopleCounting as the minor type of Triggering event.
6. Click Select... in the Source field to open the Select Sources dialog and select the triggering
sources.
7. Optional: Set other event linkage parameters, such as alarm activation period, operator actions,
and so on. For details about the event linkage configuration, refer to User Manual of Milestone
XProtect VMS.
8. Click at the top of the Site Navigation panel to save the settings.

7.3 View Real-Time People Counting Data


The real-time people counting information shows the number of passed people (entered or exited)
and people in the detection region at the current time.
Before You Start
● Make sure you have installed Hikvision-EventServer-Plugin on the computer running with

Milestone XProtect Management Client. For details, refer to Install Hikvision-EventServer-


Plugin .
● Make sure you have installed and loaded the People Counting component on the computer

running with Milestone XProtect Smart Client. For details, refer to Install Hikvision-smartclient-
plugin .
● Make sure you have added the Hikvision camera with people counting function to Milestone

XProtect. For details, refer to Add Hikvision Device .


● Make sure you have configured people counting event parameters, i.e., enabling receiving

people counting information, adding people counting event types, and setting people counting
event linkage, on Milestone XProtect Management Client. For details about people counting
event configuration, refer to Alarm Receiving Settings .
Steps
1. Log in to Milestone XProtect Smart Client.
2. Click People Counting tab and click Real-Time tab in the upper-right corner of the People
Counting page.
3. Select the camera(s) to show the real-time people counting information.
- Select the camera(s) by camera.
a. Click Camera in the Camera or Area area of the Conditions panel to open the camera list.
b. Enter the keywords in the top field of the camera list to search for cameras if needed.
c. Check the checkbox(es) of the displayed camera(s) and click OK to select the camera(s).
- Select the camera(s) by group.
a. Click Area in the Camera or Area area of the Conditions panel to open the camera list.
b. Select a group in the Camera or Area area and click OK to select the camera(s) of the
selected group.

● Once the entrance or exiting behavior is detected, the people counting alarm will be triggered
and the counting results will be uploaded and added to the data uploaded by the previous
alarm. And then the people counting information displayed at right will be refreshed by the
accumulation result.
● The displayed real-time people counting information will be cleared at 24:00 of each day,
which means that the real-time people counting starts from 00:00 at each day.

The selected camera(s) are listed in the Camera or Area area, and the people counting
information of all selected camera(s), such as the number of entered people, exited people, or
people in the detection region, is displayed at right where the number of entered people is
displayed as the line chart.

4. Optional: Set the threshold in the Threshold Configuration field, and click Enable.

5. Optional: Move the cursor to the line in the chart to view the number of entered people at a
specific time.
6. Optional: Remove cameras from the Camera or Area area.
- Right-click on a camera and click Delete to remove the camera from the Camera or Area area.
- Click Clear to remove all cameras from the Camera or Area area and clear the people counting
information at right.

7.4 Search for History People Counting Statistics


For the history people counting statistics, you can set the start or end time, and select cameras and
report type to searching for and viewing the statistics results in the line chart or data sheet. And
you can also export the daily, weekly, monthly, or annual reports to the local computer.
Before You Start
● Make sure you have installed and loaded the People Counting component on the computer

running with Milestone XProtect Smart Client. For details, refer to Install Hikvision-smartclient-
plugin .
● Make sure you have configured people counting event parameters, i.e., enabling receiving

people counting information, adding people counting event types, and setting people counting
event linkage, on Milestone XProtect Management Client. For details about the people counting
event configuration, refer to Alarm Receiving Settings .
Steps
1. Log in to Milestone XProtect Smart Client.
2. Click People Counting tab and click History tab in the upper-right corner of the People Counting
page.

3. Select the camera(s) to search for the history people counting statistics.
- Select the camera(s) by camera.
a. Click Camera in the Camera or Area area of the Conditions panel to open the camera list.
b. Enter the keywords in the top field of the camera list to search for cameras if needed.
c. Check the checkbox(es) of the displayed camera(s) and click OK to select the camera(s).
- Select the camera(s) by group.
a. Click Area in the Camera or Area area of the Conditions panel to open the camera list.
b. Select a group in the Camera or Area area and click OK to select the camera(s) of the
selected group.
The selected camera(s) are listed in the Camera or Area area of the Conditions panel.
4. Optional: Remove cameras from the Camera or Area area.
- Right-click on a camera and select Delete to remove the camera from the Camera or Area
area.
- Click Clear to remove all cameras from the Camera or Area area.
5. Select People Entered Statistics or People Exited Statistics as the statistics type in the Report
Type area of the Conditions panel.
6. Select Daily, Weekly, Monthly, or Annual as the report type in the Report Type area of the
Conditions panel.
7. Select a date to specify a day, a week, a month, or a year.

Note
For weekly, monthly, or annual report, the statistics data of the week, the month, or the year
which contains the selected date will be displayed.
The people counting information of all selected camera(s), such as daily people entered
statistics, daily people exited statistics, weekly people entered statistics, and so on, is displayed
in the line chart at right. The details of history people counting statistics of one camera (for
example) are shown in the data sheet below the line chart.

8. Optional: Click Export in the upper-right corner of the data sheet to export the report in EXCEL
format to the local computer.

Note
Before exporting the report, the Microsoft Office software (including Excel component) must be
installed in the computer. Otherwise, exception may occur.

Chapter 8 Smart Search

8.1 Smart Search for People


If the recorded video contains Metadata information, you can search for captured face pictures via
setting search filters. For search results, you can view the details, location, and related video of a
captured picture, export search results, etc.
Before You Start
● This function is only available for the device of iDS-2CD7A46G0-IZHSY (V5.8.10) and the device of

DS-2CD2687G2T-LZS (V5.7.10 and later versions). Make sure the device(iDS-2CD7A46G0-IZHSY)


is in Mixed Target Detection mode, and the device(DS-2CD2687G2T-LZS) is in Smart Event mode.
You can go to the remote configuration page of the device to switch the mode. For details, refer
to the user manual of the corresponding device.
● Make sure you have installed and loaded the Metadata component on the computer running

with Milestone XProtect Smart Client. For details, refer to Install Hikvision-smartclient-plugin .
● Make sure you have added Hikvision devices to Milestone XProtect, and have checked the

metadata port to enable metadata display function. For details, refer to Add Hikvision Device .

After enabling the metadata port, if is displayed, it indicates that the client can get

Chapter 9 Device Configuration and Operation

9.1 Remote Configuration of Device


After installing the common plug-in in the computer running with Milestone XProtect Smart Client,
you can log in to the web page for remote configuration of the device without entering the device's
IP address and user account information, and configure device parameters remotely during live
view and playback.

Note
● If the device is added via HTTPS, then this function is not available.
● Make sure you have installed and loaded the Hikvision-smartclient-plugin on the computer
running with Milestone XProtect Smart Client. For details, refer to Install Hikvision-smartclient-
plugin .
● This function should be supported by the device.
● Make sure the computer running with Milestone XProtect Smart Client is connected to the same
network of the camera.

Click the Live or Playback tab.


On the tool bar of a view item, click → Remote Configuration to enter the web page to
configure device parameters as needed. For details about remote configuration, refer to the device
user manual.

Note
If a script error occurs on the configuration page, you can ignore it, which will not influence normal
operations.

9.2 Set IR Light Mode

Client, you can set the IR light mode of the device during live view.

Day/night switch is realized by the control of IR cut-off filter.

9.3 3D Positioning
If a camera has two channels (one speed dome channel and one panoramic channel), you can
perform 3D positioning during live view on the Smart client. This function should be supported by
the device.

In the Live tab on the Smart Client, drag the camera 1 (speed dome channel) and camera 2
(panoramic channel) to the view items.
On the live video image of the camera 2, click , right-click on the desired position to draw a
rectangle area in the lower right direction, and right-click again to finish drawing, then the camera
1 will move the position to the center and allow the rectangle area to zoom in.
For example, if you select a vehicle on the live video image of the camera 2, then in the live video
of the camera 1, the area of the vehicle will be zoomed in and the vehicle will be tracked if it
appears in the live video image.

9.5 Configure Preset


You can manage presets of devices on Milestone XProtect Management Client.
Before You Start
Make sure you have installed and loaded the Hikvision-mngt-plugin on the computer running with

Steps
1. Log in to Milestone XProtect Management Client.
2. Click Servers → Recording Servers in the Site Navigation panel to show the organization list of

9.6 Display Metadata on Video


Metadata is the data that describes other data. In the video monitoring field, metadata usually
contains intelligent structured information, such as perimeter protection, real-time temperature
measurement, and so on. Metadata can be the rule information, including rule lines or frames and
target moving routes, of smart detections (such as motion detection, line crossing detection, and
so on) which can help users understand the videos. You can set the metadata display parameters of
Hikvision devices on Milestone XProtect Management Client and display the metadata information
on the videos during live view or playback on Milestone XProtect Smart Client. After setting
metadata display parameters for Hikvision devices, you can display the uploaded metadata
information on the video during live view or playback via Milestone XProtect Smart Client. Real-
time targets with or without alarms triggered, target moving routes, and configured rule lines or
frames are marked by different colors. Supports displaying the metadata information for multiple
modes, including Mixed Target Detection mode, Traffic Mode, Perimeter Protection, Temperature
Measurement, and Fire Detection.

1. Log in to Milestone XProtect Smart Client.
2. Click Live or Playback tab.
3. Start live view or playback of a device that is configured with metadata display.

For detailed operations of live view or playback on Milestone XProtect Smart Client, refer to the
User Manual of Milestone XProtect Smart Client.
4. Move the cursor to the display window.
A toolbar appears on the display window.

5. Click on the toolbar to display the metadata information on the video.

Note
If the icon is grayed, it indicates that the device does not support metadata display.

The metadata information (including red or green frame, target moving route, and blue line or
frame) of the device is displayed on the video of live view or playback.
● Red Frame: Marks the real-time target with alarm triggered, and it only appears in live view.

● Green Frame: Marks the real-time target without alarm triggered.

● Target Moving Route: Marks the moving route of the real-time target with or without alarm

triggered in red or green frame.


● Blue Line or Frame: Configured rule line or frame.

6. Optional: Click again to hide the metadata information on the video.

Support displaying the metadata information of one camera at a time.

9.6.1 Supported Devices


The following list shows the software versions, types, and models of Hikvision devices that support
interacting with the Milestone server by using Hik MIP plug-ins.
The recommended Milestone products are the client software of Milestone XProtect series with
Corporate version later than 2019 R3.
The following Hikvision devices are available for the metadata function.
