Have you ever heard of the term "verbals" before?
What do you think it means?

How do you think verbs are related to verbals?


erbals are verb forms that function as different parts
of speech, such as nouns, adjectives, or adverbs.

but do not function as verbs in the sentence..


“swim”
Swimming is my favorite sport.
GERUND
“cry”
The crying baby needs attention.
PARTICIPLE
“base form”
“to swim”, “ to cry”
iNFINITIVES
is an umbrella term for words that LOOK like verbs but
behaving like different part of speech in the specific
sentence.
Infinitives
“ to+________’‘ format
They help clarify the verb

Examples:
I am going to attend the party.
Raniel wants to leave soon.
Verbal: I am going to attend a party. << “ to + VERBAL

Prep Phrase: I am going to the party. << “to + NOUN“


Gerunds
with “ -ing ’” on the end format that are acting as a noun.
They can be the subject or just an object that appears at beginning or the end of a sentence.

Examples:
I like reading but I have more books than time.
Chewing gum in class will get you in trouble..

Main Verb ( with helping verb): I am swimming.

Gerund : Swimming is fun.


Participles
behaving like ADJECTIVES ( describing nouns).
They are usually located right before a noun (since they are modifying / describing it)
Participles will have different verb endings like -ed, -ing, -en and etc.

Examples:
The missing library book was found under the bed..
The baked goods were sold out by the end of the fundraiser..
