How to Play

For 4 players
Goal:
Earn a total of 11 points with your partner.
Contents:
40 cards total
3 suits of 13 cards each; blue - buildings, yellow - cups, green - coins
1 gatsby card

Beginning:
Deal out all cards evenly to players. Betting begins with the player to
the left of the dealer and proceeds clockwise. To bet, state a number. The
amount of tricks you need to take to complete the bet is half of the available
tricks plus the number that is stated in the bet. If playing with 4 players,
there are 10 tricks total, so half the tricks would be 5. Keep in mind that
Aces are high.
For example, if Player 1 has a strong suit, such as coins, they might
bet 1. Player 2 may have a strong suit of cups, and they would also bet 1. If
Player 3 has a fairly good hand, they may raise the bet to 2. If Player 4
passes, then Player 1 may decide to keep the bet at 2. Player 2 may pass
or increase the bet. Player 3 may then also pass or increase the bet. This
betting continues until a team is in agreement and the other team passes. If
no team is willing to bet, the dealer must place a bet.

Play:
The player that made the final bet leads the first trick. The first trick
cannot be led by Gatsby. Each player adds a card onto the trick, following
the suit lead if possible. Players must follow suit, if you have a card in the
suit led, you must play it. If a trick is led by Gatsby, then the next card
played down establishes the suit for that trick. The trick is taken by whoever
played the highest card in suit, or by Gatsby (see below). Whoever takes
the trick leads the next one. When all cards are played, add up the number
of tricks per team and add scores accordingly.
Gatsby:
These are special circumstances that can change the outcome of a
trick when gatsby is played. In the case that two or more cards that interact
with Gatsby are played in a trick, the effect of the first card laid down is the
one that happens.
Gatsby and Tom: If Tom is in suit and the highest card, Tom takes the trick.
If Tom is out of suit, Gatsby takes the trick.
Gatsby and Daisy or the Light: If Daisy or the Light is in suit, that card will
take the trick, otherwise, Gatsby takes it.
Gatsby and Wilson, the Car, or the Owl-eyed Man: The card that is not
Gatsby takes the trick.
In all other cases, Gatsby takes the trick.
Scoring:
If the bet is made, that team gets 2 points for making the bet, as well
as 1 point for every trick taken over the ½ tricks required to make a bet. If
the team does not make their bet, they lose 2 points. Continue playing until
one team reaches 11 points, passing the deal clockwise every round.
