The Circuit

It was time for strawberries to be picked, but the season ended. Panchito's

family had to move to Fresno for more work. They packed everything and drove to a

labor camp. Life in their new home, an old garage, was tough. Panchito started

school. He feels nervous and lonely because he did not speak English well. Panchito's

family faced challenges. They work in the vineyards under the hot sun. However, the

older brother still has to work picking cotton and cannot go to school. Despite

difficulties, Panchito found support from his teacher, Mr. Lema. He even got a chance

to learn to play the trumpet. Panchito's family moved to a new labor camp near

Fresno, where they found work for the whole season. Life in the worn-out garage was

hard, but the family worked together to make it better. Panchito struggled at school.

He feels embarrassed for not being able to read in English in school. Mr. Lema, his

teacher, became his friend and helped him with English. Mr. Lema helped Panchito

English during lunch hours. Panchito was really happy and wanted to tell what he had

learnt in school, Unfortunately, when he got back home, he opened the door and saw

that everything in the shack was packed in cardboard boxes ready to move. That made

him really upset because his family had to move to other place for work and he must

find another school, too.
