teacher. She used to read the books Winny The Witch and it was really funny. For our school tour we went to Go Bananas and we also went to the Library in Tuam. When it used to be raining and we couldn’t go outside we would have our lunch and watch peep until Mrs Lyons came back.
Senior Infants-In senior infants we were split up
where half was in Mrs Lyons and the rest were in Ms Byrnes. So in the morning we would go to Mrs Saverys all of us would go to her for maths and English until small break and then we would go back to our own classrooms. For our school tour we we went to Rendeer pet farm. A girl called Sona joined our school and was in same class as us. First Class-I was in MS Byrnes classroom. On a Thursday we got to go to music like the rest of the school and we learned how to play the tin whistle. We also started getting small spelling test with English and irish spellings and we had a work it out test. For our school tour we went to Athenry Castle.
Second Class-This year I changed classrooms and
we had a new teacher Mr. Tevenan. After break if we were good he always read us Roald Dahls books and for every different character he would but an accent on to make it more interesting for us. Mr. tevenan also used to do a lot of drama with us and he did a play with us called Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs. We did a lot of practising for us and when we had it perfect all the school came down to watch it and everyone loved it. That year we also had our first Holy Communion. My job was to sing and there was four of us. There was Aoibhinn ,Tracey,Roisin and me. We sang like a sunflower. The day of our Communion when it was finished we went back to the community center to get sweets and pictures taken. For our school tour we went to NUIG in Galway.
Third Class-This year I was in the same classroom
with Mr Tevenan again. We also got to start choir and that was really fun. Mr Ronayne did training teaching with us and he read to us aswell and did a lot of games and pe with us. Mr tevenan also did reading with us as well.
Fourth class-This year I was in Mrs Lyons room
.We had 2 people doing training teaching Ms Dunne and Ms Summers. The girls and me we started to collect cups and do jobs. For our school tour we went to Galway museum,Pure skills and we climbed Castlehacket.
Fifth class-In fifth class we were split up where
half was in Mrs Lyons and the other half was in Ms Finnegans. I was in Ms Finnegans. We learned a new instrument it was the flute.Normally the sixth class would go to the nursing home so because we were in the same classroom with the sixth class so we got to go with them .It was really fun. That year Mrs Lyons and Mrs Mahoney retired so for the last day of school we got ice-creams were a ice-cream van came to us and we got cones. There is two trees planted in front of the school so when we come in it reminds us of when they were in the school.
Sixth class-This year I am in Ms Finnegans
classroom again. I have a lot of good memories were Aoibhinn was dancing with the skeleton in Ms Saverys classroom so when we were going to the bathroom Aoibhinn didn’t realise Ms Saverys was there .The girls and I used to always play the next step when it used to be raining out and we would play tag under the tables and play the X-Factor which was really fun. I really enjoyed doing this stuff with the girls. For a change we decided that we were going to learn a new instrument which was ths ukulele and we learnt songs and all of thatwas really fun to learn a new instrument. We also got to go to the nursing home aswell for special occasions like Christmas and we would get sweets after. When corona-virus came when it got bad we didn’t realise that when we got school off it would mean that we couldn’t see our friends and we would have to homework at home. We thought it would be fun .It’s really sad that we can’t finish sixth class like we would have liked to like doing tie dye t-shirts and we don’t get to graduate like we would have normally.I do have a lot of good and bad memories of national school and I do really miss it and miss all my friends. But the eight years of it was really fun.
