MEMORIES FROM PRIMARY SCHOOL

JUNIOR INFANTS

I don’t remember too much about junior infants considering the fact that it was eight years ago and
also because I was only five and six at the time. I do remember some parts of it like the time me my
friend Max and I were playing with the buzz lightyear toy and Max broke it and went into the toilet
crying because he was so scared about getting in trouble.
In the end we got into no trouble at all Max and I still laugh about it to this day. In Junior’s we went
to Turoe pet farm I don’t actually remember anything about that school tour at all which is weird. In
Junior’s our teacher was Mrs. Lyons, she was a very nice teacher.

SENIOR INFANTS

In Senior Infants our teacher was Ms. Savery. She would have us in her room until break then we
would be split up for the rest of the day. I was put into Ms. Byrne’s room. I didn’t mind too much. I
was still with a lot of my friends. My parents tell me I didn’t settle very well with the split but it
doesn’t stick out in my mind at all.

FIRST CLASS

When I went into First Class I was kind of already prepared for what would happen because in
senior’s I was in Ms. Byrne’s for the most part of it. I enjoyed first class a lot because all of the class
were back together in the same room. For our school tour we went to Athenry castle and then we
went to a play place called Cardio Kids it was great fun. In our classroom we had a few senior infants
because like us they were also split up into two rooms.

SECOND CLASS

In second class our Principal Mr. Mc Hale left to work somewhere else so Ms Lyons (not the Junior
Infant one) became the Acting Principal of the school. So you’re probably wondering was if there
was going to be a class with no teacher, well I can happily say you are absolutely wrong :)
The second and third class teacher Ms. Finnegan took over sixth class and we got a new teacher
called Mr Tevenan. He was a great teacher and he loved drama so we put on a play second and third
class play called Snow White and the Other Seven Dwarfs. I played the Big bad Wolf aka Simon
Howell I really enjoyed it and everyone said it as a great play. We played a lot of drama games and a
lot of Irish games such as wink murderer and Deir Ó Grádaigh.

We played a lot of football too for P.E. For our school tour we went to Moycullen pet farm it was
great fun. Since it was second class we made our Communion it took a lot of practise and a lot of
masses but the Communion was a great success and I got to make it with my first cousin Saoirse.

There was also another great thing about Mr Tevenans ……After big break when we came inside he
would read Roald Dahl books to us it was great. At the end of second class I was a bit sad because I
enjoyed second class so much.

THIRD CLASS

In third class we all stayed in Mr. Tevenan’s class which I was delighted about. My brother Rian was
in the same room as me which I didn’t really mind too much. Since my brother was in second class
he was making his First Holy Communion so they were preparing for that a lot so we showed them
how to do it just like the third class showed us how to in second class.

We went to NUIG in Galway for the school tour both classes went it was great fun. In the last few
weeks before Summer Holidays Mr. Tevenan asked us write letters to ourselves and we would get
them before we go to secondary school. I got mine last week. It was a great laugh reading it back. It
was sad leaving Mr. Tevenan’s room because I really enjoyed it there.

FOURTH CLASS

In Fourth class I was in the principals room Ms. Lyons. The Fifth class lads were in our room as well
they got split up in to two rooms.

For our school Tour we went to Galway Museum and Pure skill and then we climbed Castle Hackett
Hill it was great fun. I didn’t expect to enjoy the Galway Museum as much as I did it was really
interesting. It was a very hot day so after we climbed the Hill Ms Lyons bought us an ice cream on
our way back home. My friend Dean made us all laugh a lot that day 
FIFTH CLASS

In Fifth class we got split up and some of us stayed in Ms. Lyons’s class and some of us went into Ms.
Finnegan’s class. I was put into Ms. Finnegan’s Class. We were in with the sixth class and it was so
fun. For our school tour we went to a place in Mayo I can’t remember the name of it then we went
to Supermac’s.

At the graduation mass for Sixth class we sang with them it was very sad to see them go because
they were such good craic but all good things come to an end.

SIXTH CLASS

So here we are at the last year of primary. I can’t believe it’s over so fast. I will miss primary very
much and it has been a very big part of my life. If I have learnt anything from primary is enjoy
yourself while you can because everything comes to an end sometime or another. Unfortunately for
us 6th class ended way too soon due to the corona virus 

I am going into secondary school now and I’ll admit I am a bit scared but I’m also excited about
making new friends and starting new subjects. But I’ll embrace the changes because sometimes
change can be good but anyway this whole thing is about one thousand words long and my hand
kind of hurts from all this typing so goodbye and wish me luck in secondary school see ya :)
