I have arrived at Zapatera Elementary School

around 7:00 in the morning. I had my breakfast first just
nearby the school in fifteen minutes then I head to the
school by 7:15 AM. I saw some of my classmates
already there, waiting and we gathered near the
principal's office. We were informed that the head
mentor was out of the office and there will be a different
mentor to cater us instead. Around quarter to 8:00 AM,
we decided to go to the Sped Center. The first thing that
caught my eye was the entrance and the signage "Sped
Center". As you walk, you can see there are colored
boxes that you can step in. As I wonder around, I saw
labeled rooms for each disability. There were students
around too. Some of them were helping their teachers
cleaning the areas. Some of them were watering the
plants. Some of them were arranging the chairs, but
picture this, we were not in a classroom. So, there were
stuffs outside the classrooms. They have a resource
room too. There building has two stories but we did not
went there as we were waiting for the mentor that will
cater us and will provide us further instruction.

Around 8:30 AM, our assigned mentor greeted us

and called us to get inside to her classroom. From there, we
were divided by groups and we were provided the name of
the teacher we will be under. I was with Mike and Franch
and our new mentor was Mrs. Jonadeth Relampagos. She
was an autism teacher for kindergartens. She used to have
her own classroom but because she is also the School
Registrar, she decided to create some space in the registrar
office for her students. The office and the classroom was
divided by a partition. There were three desk and the seating
arrangement was in a form of inclosing the student, making
him/her to still. She only have five students but with varying
class time. She does not have a student at the time we came
in so she provided us other things to do. She provided us a
set of files per envelope where we will write names in a bond
paper. I have noticed that there were shelves full of
instructional materials, multisensory toys and student
accomplishments. At the back of the door, I saw the schedule
of Ma'am Relampagos and saw the class time for each
student.

Exactly 10:00 AM, one of her student came in named

Leonard. Ma'am approached Leonard and we seated. I have
forgot to mentioned, there was actually a student intern
around. She's from Cebu Technological University. I forgot
her name and she greeted Leonard too. We had introduced
ourselves to Leonard and he is not a typical autistic that
would just ignore you. He is very playful, talkative and very
smart. Ma'am Relampagos sat close to him to make sure he
would be still and began giving him worksheets. Its all about
self-help skills. He is ask to fill in the correct missing letter in
the box corresponding to the picture shown. I was quite
amazed because he was already familiar with the terms and
finished answering early. He utters the vernacular word
"kabo" and "balde". He was so cute. Since he finished early,
Ma'am Relampagos gave him another worksheet and its
about the months in a year. He has to write the word and
there was a manipulation instructional material he can play
but learning at the same. Exactly 11:00, its the end of his
class but we stayed till 12:00 PM because we have to finish
the files Ma'am Relampagos gave us.

I have arrived at Zapatera Elementary School by 6:30 in

the morning because after my work, I head straight head to the
school. But I did not went inside yet because I had my
breakfast first. I truly believe in the saying that it is the most
important meal of the day because you should start your day
with a full belly to accomplish the task needed to accomplish
on that day. After I enjoyed my breakfast, I went to the school.
I stayed outside Ma'am Relampagos classroom because obviously
she was not yet around. But the student teacher was already
inside the classroom and inviting me to come inside but I was just
too shy as I am alone and I think I need to wait my group mates
before I head inside as respect. Ma'am Relampagos arrived
quarter to 8:00 AM and I went inside even though my
groupmates were not yet around. I arranged some stuffs in the
classroom while waiting and since its not yet 10:00 AM, I did
the usual stuff. I opened some files in the envelop and right
down some names. Mike and Franch arrived and they joined
me in writing names from very very old files. Some of the
names you cannot believe existed. We had some laugh.

When 10:00 AM hit, Leonard appeared along with her

Yaya and we greeted him. Minutes later, a girl came inside the
room and Leonard greeted her. Her name was Felicity. Unlike
Leonard, she is a quite student. Ma'am Relampagos joined us in
the table along with the student intern. Ma'am Relampagos
gave Leonard and Felicity the same worksheets. Leonard
finished filling his full name but Felicity tends to only write her
first name. She was quite stubborn because she was told many
times to write also her last name but she will just ignore it. The
worksheet was about identifying body parts. As expected,
Leonard finished early. He talks a lot while answering it and
Felicity is having a hard time writing still her last name. To
address that, Maam Relampagos told her she need to write her
last name because she will not be considered as her father's
daughter so she needs to write it. Felicity talks less and she is
fascinated with drawing. She has a set of crayons and a
sketchpad. She won't answer the worksheet and just kept on
drawing and drawing on the sketchpad but I did not notice
Maam Relampagos patience wearing thinner. She was just chill,
smiling and seated closely to Felicity since Leonard was on the
resources shelves playing some manipulative learning materials.

I arrived at Zapatera Elementary School

around 10:30 AM already because I attended my first
class at Cebu Normal University at 9:00 AM. I
need attend because I had my teaching
demonstration and it ended well exactly on 10:30
so, I headed to Zapatera Elementary School right
away, riding a motorcycle. I was afraid because I
am running late already. When I arrived, they
already started. I apologized of course to Ma'am
Relampagos and explained to her what happened,
why I was late. I was grateful because she
understand. I am shocked because I did not saw
Felicity and Leonard around. Its late when I realize
they are on a different class schedule. I just grow to
love them. It was a boy actually and he is so quite.
He is intimidated and so aggressive. He wont sit
still yet he is so silent compared to Felicity. His
name was Nathan and I have witnessed Mike was
having a hard time dealing with him but was able
to handle him. On the other hand, Franch did not
give him what he like to have so Nathan did not go
near her. I was just observing them by a far though.

Ma'am Relampagos was also having a hard

time correcting or modifying the student's aggressive
behavior. Nathan tends to grip Ma'am Relampagos
hands tightly that it red marks would show when he
let go. I have not witnessed if Nathan was able to
answer some worksheets because I was late. But
considering his behaviors when I arrive, I doubt he
answered any of it. It was already 11:00 in the
morning and I think Mike, Franch, Ma'am
Relampagos and the student intern felt relieved when
the class time ended. They drunk water and we
gathered in the table. Ma'am Relampagos started to
explain what just happened and we came to
understand it. Nathan was from a poor family and it
was already too late when his parents noticed that
there was something off with him. He do not talk, he
is aggressive. But that was just his behavior whenever
his Yaya is not around. Ma'am Relampagos
purposely let the Yaya to wait outside for us to really
witness and experience how to handle students at
worst case scenarios.
