Introduction
Understanding moral judgements is
crucial for ethical decision-making.
This presentation explores the
elements, ethics, and nature of moral
reasoning, shedding light on its
complexities and implications for
society.
Elements of
Ethics
Acts that can be judged as ethical or
unethical, moral or immoral, involve
four elements:
Act
Human Acts
Free Will
Affect Others
ACT
First, some act must have been
performed.
HUMAN ACTS
Second, judgments of moral or
ethical behavior are directed
specifically to human behavior.
FREE WILL
In addition to limiting discussions of
morality to human behavior, we
usually further restrict our discussion
to behavior that stems from free will
and free action.
AFFECT OTHERS
Finally, we usually discuss moral
or immoral behavior only in
cases in which the behavior
significantly affects others.
