ANOVA

Case:

The L&D group of a software firm has been entrusted to design specific Training Modules for
Software Developers with 2 years work experience whose performance during the last review
period have been rated 4 or below on a 10 point rating scale where higher ratings indicate
superior performance. The objective of the Training module was to improve their performance
ratings during the next review.

The L&D group decided to conduct an experiment. Thirty associates with performance rating of
4 and below were identified. They were randomly divided into 3 groups: Group A, Group B and
Group C.. Each group went through a different five day Training Program. The specific
programs were as follows:

Group A: Advanced Technical Training

Group B: Team Work, Team Building & Achieving Goals in Teams (HR Training)

Group C: Leadership Training

After the program, each individual was specifically advised to use their program learnings at
work. Their performance was monitored closely and an interim review conducted after 6 months.
The performance rating of each individual for this interim review is provided in the data sheet in
the Excel file.

The L&D team desires to understand at 95% confidence level whether the different training
modules that the groups participated in had any significant influence on their interim
performance ratings.

Case questions:

1. State the null hypothesis.


2. Test out the null hypothesis using a suitable statistical test.
3. What conclusion can you come to from your analysis? Justify your answer.
