Sangita Gosain

Dr. Sangita Gosain (Mohapatra) is a very popular household name in the field of
Music. Very strongly grouted herself in the music soil of Odisha for more than
five decades. Her first stage performance was in Cuttack, when she was only
five years old. Her musical journey from tradition to modern is remarkable
which is still intact. To her, music means only music. It does not recognize any
barriers of language, caste, creed or colour. It has only ONE language i.e. Sa,
Re, Ga, Ma, Pa, Dha, Ni. Being trained in both Hindusthani Music and Odissi
Music, she sings the songs of different tastes. She is one of the very few “TOP’
grade artists of A.I.R & Door- darshan. An empanelled artist of I.C.C.R. was
awarded the best playback singer for the Odia feature film, “Sakala Tirtha to
Charane”. Has performed extensively in India and abroad. To name a few
countries visited: Russia, Bangladesh, Singapore, USA, UK etc. Sings in 17
Indian languages with ease. She has performed in Sangeet Sammelans, must
prestigious programme in Indian organized by Prasar Bharati.
An M.A. in Eng. literature, and Odia literature has two Phds to her credit.
Phd in English literature and Music. At present she is the Associate Prof. of
Odissi Music in Utkal University of Culture, Bhubaneswar and Chief Executive
GKCM Odissi Research Centre. Associated with many voluntary organisations
for the promotion of Odishan Art & Culture. Has great oragnising capability.
For more than 25 years she has been managing the Cultural Festivals organized
by Govt. of Odisha. She isa compere of very high caliber, in Odia, Hindi and
English.
She, along with her sisters recorded the whole Srimad Bhagabad Geeta
(All the 18 Chapters) for the first time in the world in the year 1980. Which is
very very popular globally. She has been felicitated with lot many awards for
her contribution to the field of Music. She has more than ’60 Cd’s to her credit.
She loves to help the socially downtrodden to live life with Art and
culture and has a very soft corner for the specially challenged children whom
she trains with lots of love and care. To her, music, a passion is a remedy for
many social Abuses.
