Ratio & Proportion

1) A metal alloy is made in the ratio of three parts tin to five parts lead. How much tin
needs to be mixed with 22 kg of lead.

2) Two numbers x and y are in the ratio of 7:4, if their sum is 55, what are the two
numbers?

3) The ratio of novels in a library to other books is 2:7. If the total number of novels in it
is 1600, then find the total number of books.

4) Renuka is 12 years old. Her brother Sanjay is 3 years older and her mother is 40 years
old. Find the ratio between
(a) Renuka’s age and Sanjay’s age.
(b) Sanjay’s age and his mother’s age.

5) Find the ratio of the price of coffee to that of tea, when coffee costs Rs.24 per 100 gm
and the tea costs Rs.80 per kg.

6) Shanul and David invested 2000 and 3000 in a shop and made a profit of 1800
in the business. How should they distribute the profit? Find their shares.

7) An office opens at 9.30 am and closes at 5.30 pm with a lunch interval of 30 minutes.
What is the ratio of the lunch interval to the total period in the office?
