2 Equipment Overview

2.1 Overview

Laser welding is a new welding method and an important material processing technology. It is mainly used

for welding thin-walled materials and precision parts. The welding process belongs to the heat conduction type,

where the surface of the workpiece is heated by laser radiation, and the surface heat is conducted to the interior,

causing the material to melt and then cool and crystallize to form a weld.

2.3 Product Features

Advantages of the handheld laser welding machine

1. Fiber laser source has good beam quality, small focused spot, high positioning accuracy, fast welding speed,

and produces firm and beautiful welds;

2. Handheld water-cooled welding gun is ergonomically designed, flexible and convenient, with a longer

welding distance, which can achieve welding of any part and any angle of the workpiece, including spot

welding, butt welding, overlap welding, fillet welding, and sealing welding;

3. The welding area has minimal thermal impact, is not easy to deform, and effectively avoids problems such

as blackening and marks on the back. The welding depth is large, and the melting is complete, ensuring the

firm and reliable welding;

4. The electro-optical conversion efficiency is high, with low energy consumption, and the operation is simple

and easy to learn. Ordinary workers can be put into operation after a short period of training, which can

greatly save processing costs in the long-term use;

5. The crocodile clip is installed on the metal welding platform, and the switch is triggered only when the

nozzle touches the metal, which is highly secure.

Disadvantages of handheld laser welding machine

1. Compared with desktop welding machine, it requires manual operation, which may cause fatigue after long

periods of use.

2. The material welding clearance is limited, and the standard clearance for typical handheld welding is less

than 0.2 times the thickness of the plate, while clearance with filler function requires a maximum of 1.2mm.

3) It is not easy to weld materials that reflect fiber laser noticeably, such as purple copper.

2.4 Operating Environment

1. Please use the equipment in a place where the ambient temperature is between 0°C and 35°C, humidity is

below 85%, and there is no sudden temperature change. Also, using in the following places could affect its

lifespan:

1) Places with a lot of garbage, dust, or oil mist.

2) Places with strong vibration or impact.

3) Places where drugs can be reached.

4) Places near high-frequency interference sources.

5) Places prone to condensation.

6) Places with high concentrations of CO2, NOX, SOX.

2. When the ambient temperature drops below 0 ° C, the equipment may freeze, causing damage. Therefore,

during use, it is important to ensure that there is no condensation inside the equipment.

3. In situations where the temperature changes rapidly, condensation may form on the optical lens, resulting

in stains and fog. Therefore, it is essential to prevent sudden changes in the ambient temperature. If this is

not possible, the equipment should only be used when there is no condensation.

This equipment complies with Electrical Safety Standard GB 10320-1995 for Laser Equipment and Facilities.

3.1 Precautions

This product belongs to Class 4 laser which can produce

dangerous diffuse reflection. Therefore, when using the laser source,

special care should be taken to avoid direct eye exposure and body

contact to avoid physical injury.

The hand-held welding gun head disk cable contains fiber optics

and must be kept in its natural state as much as possible when placed.

Twisting or bending is prohibited, as it can cause the wrapping

diameter of the fiber optic to be too small and result in damage.

Non-professionals are prohibited from dismantling, repairing or

modifying this equipment. Any consequences such as electric shock or

fire caused by such actions are the responsibility of the user. Safety

knowledge education and instruction on production processes should

be provided to on-site operators. Do not perform any operations other

than those indicated in this user manual.

Individuals using a cardiac pacemaker should not approach this

equipment, as the welding machine generates a magnetic field that

can interfere with its normal operation.

3.2 Operational Safety

1. The output wavelength of this equipment is 1080nm (infrared light), and the laser safety level belongs to

Class IV laser, which can cause great harm to eyes and skin. The reflected and scattered light can also cause

damage to the human body. Therefore, please wear laser safety glasses and protective clothing throughout

the use to ensure safety.

1. Before welding, the alligator clip should be clamped on the metal workbench, and the switch will only work

when the welding nozzle touches the metal.

2. During laser processing, please wear safety glasses and safety gloves. The gun muzzle must not be directed

at the human body or eyes. After processing, the workpiece will still be in a high-temperature state, so

please wear gloves when touching it to prevent burns.

3.3 Electrical Safety

Before powering on, check the power supply and circuit for loose connections, short circuits, or incorrect

connections.

1. Ground the equipment using the PE wire in the power cord and ensure a firm and reliable connection.

Grounding disconnection can cause the product shell to become live,

which may result in personal injury.

2. Ensure that the AC voltage supply is normal.

Incorrect wiring or voltage supply can cause irreversible damage to the

laser source.

3.4 Fire Safety

1. Equip the work site with a fire extinguisher and avoid piling flammable materials or debris around the

equipment. Sparks from welding could cause a fire when in contact with combustible materials.

2. Keep inflammable and explosive materials away from the laser beam path to avoid the risk of fire or

explosion.

3. Do not cover the equipment with textiles or blankets during use to prevent heat buildup and possible fire.

4 Super Weiye Control System

4.1 Installation and Commissioning (3000W and below) (with Max Laser Source)

4.1.1 Precautions before Use

1. Open the package and check if the equipment is intact and all parts are available.

2. Prepare the external power cord and argon gas gauge, and get ready for the power supply and gas supply.

4.1.2 Installation

Firstly, the power grid ground wire must comply with the national standard requirements for machine room. The

equipment's maximum power consumption is around 15KW, and the switch capacity is greater than 5% of the

machine's power.

Power grid fluctuation: < 5%

1. Power and gas supply: The machine's back panel is where the power and gas ports are located. When

wiring, pay special attention to PE as the ground wire and N as the neutral wire, as shown in the figure

below.

2. Add fresh water every month, and add antifreeze when the temperature drops below freezing.

3. Clamp the safety device onto a conductive workbench or workpiece, as shown below, and ensure

insulation between the workpiece to be welded and the workbench.

4.1.3 Operation Steps of Super Weiye Control System

4.1.3.1 Startup Steps

1. Turn on the circuit breaker switch for the equipment.

2. Reset the "emergency stop" button and turn on the electric lock switch.

3. After adding water to the chiller to reach the safe level, turn on the machine. Note that antifreeze needs to

be added when the ambient temperature is below freezing, as shown in the figure below.

4. The Max laser source will start automatically, and the indicator light can be found at its back, as shown

below.

4.1.3.2 Human-machine Interface Operation

1. The current process parameters and real-time alarm information can be viewed on this interface.

2. When the machine is turned on, Laser Enable and Indication of Red Light will be turned on.

3. Secure Lock is usually gray, but will turn green when the welding head is in contact with the workpiece and

the machine is ready for operation.

4. Welding Mode is set to continuous by default. When set to spot welding, the light output can be

intermittent to solve the problem of unreliable manual control over spot welding time (available in version

V3.3 or above).

Laser source control

1. The technology interface contains the debugging parameters. Click on the boxes to modify. After the

modification, click OK, and then save it to the quick process. To use it, click Import (modify-save-import).

2. Scan Speed range is 2-6000 mm/s, and Scan Width range is 0^5 mm. The scanning speed is limited by the

scanning width. The relationship is: 10≤ scan speed/(scan width*2)≤1000. If the limit is exceeded, it will

automatically become the limit value. When the scan width is set to 0, it will not be scanned (that is, it will

become a point light source) (the most used scan speed: 300 mm/s, width 2.5 mm).

3. Peak Power needs to be less than or equal to the laser power on the parameter page (for example, if the

laser power is 1000 W, then this value should not exceed 1000).

4. Duty Cycle range is 0-100 (default 100, usually no need to change).

5. Frequency range is recommended to be 5-5000 Hz (default 2000, usually no need to change).

6. Click HELP in the top right corner for more information about related parameters.

4.1.3.3 Settings

Click Setting on the homepage, and enter the password "123456".

1. Laser Power is the maximum power of the laser source being used.

2. Open/Off Gas Delay is set to 200 ms by default, with a range of 200ms-3000ms.

3. When laser on, the power gradually increases from N1 percent of the process power to 100 percent; when

laser off, the power gradually decreases from 100 % to N2 percent (as shown in the figure below).

4. Welding Wire Delay is the time for the wire feeding to advance relative to the laser output signal, and can

be used in conjunction with the retract function.

5. The maximum threshold for the temperature alarm value is 70℃. When it is set to 0, no temperature alarm

is detected.

6. Scan Correction ranges from 0.01 to 4, with a coefficient target line width/measurement line width ratio of

generally 1.25.

7. Laser Center Offset of -3~3 mm, decrease to move left, increase to move right.

8. Alarm level signal is default. After shielding the alarm, it can be directly changed to the corresponding level

detection.

9. Spot Welding Duration is the time for laser output after the trigger is pulled. Even if the button is released,

the light will still be emitted according to the time of light output (this function is available in version V3.3

and above).

10. Spot Welding Interval is the stop time between two spot welds after the trigger is pulled (this function is

available in version V3.3 and above).

This interface displays the status of signals and device info. Click Equipment Authorization to enter the

interface. Enter the password to authorize system usage time. The authorization encryption and decryption

methods are the same.

4.1.4 Gun Head and Wire Feeding Device

4.1.4.1 Introduction to Welding Gun Head

1. Copper nozzle: Customers can replace the corresponding nozzle according to different welding

processes;

2. Graduated tube: The screw steel pipe can be rotated to adjust the focal length, and the distance can be

adjusted by ±10mm;

3. Gas interface: Protect the gas blowing port;

4. Protective lens installation port: With a protective lens and water-cooling structure, the service life of

the lens is longer;

5. Circulating waterway: A cooling water circulation structure used to cool the reflective mirror and

internal structure of the gun body.

6. Gun body handle: Made with alumina technology, lightweight and comfortable to hold.

7. Light output trigger button: Used to control output during welding, can be operated with either the left

or right hand.

8. QBH locking sleeve: Connects the gun to the laser source with the QBH connector. When installing or

disassembling, care should be taken to keep it clean and avoid dust contaminating.

4.1.4.2 Introduction to Nozzle Types

4.1.4.3 Instructions to Non-filler Welding

1. Before welding: Turn on the protective gas and shutter, test the light output by spot welding according to

the technical parameters or experience. Determine the focal length, power, beam width, swing frequency,

and appropriate beam shape based on penetration depth and welding seam. After confirmation, the

welding process can be carried out.

2. During welding: Under normal circumstances, the relative angle between the gun head and the workpiece

should be around 45°, ensuring that the protective gas can protect the welding seam while blowing away

dust and avoiding damage to the protective lens, thus extending its lifespan.

3. After welding: After welding, it is necessary to check whether the protective lens is damaged and replace it

in time. The cable should be wound up and placed properly, and the gun head should be placed gently to

avoid excessive impact.

Note: Ensure reliable grounding before power supply; match the wire feeding wheel with wire diameter and

correspond it with the wire feeding tube; do not bend the wire feeding tube.

1. Motor wiring:

The machine provides a three-core aviation plug, which is connected to the plug at the tail of the wire feeder

to provide 220V power supply (1st pin for live wire, 2nd pin for neutral wire, 3rd pin for ground wire); The

machine also provides a two-core aviation plug, which is connected to the wire feed port of the control system

to supply wire feeding signals (passive contact, wire feeding triggered by short-circuiting).

2. Installation of wire spool and wire feeding wheel

Common welding wires with 5-30 KG can be installed, but flux-cored welding wires should not be used;

Adjust the tension of the wire feeding wheel using an internal hexagon wrench, making sure it is not too

tight or too loose for smooth wire feeding (usually no adjustment is needed);

There are two wire feeding wheels, with different models on each side and corresponding to different wire

diameters. Be sure to install the correct wire feeding wheel that matches the wire diameter. For example, if

installing a 1.2 mm welding wire, the side of the wire feeding wheel marked with 1.2 mm should be facing

outwards;

2. "Feeding Speed" controls the speed of wire feeding. The range is 15-600 cm/min. The speed can be directly

inputted by the numeric keypad or adjusted quickly with the arrow keys. Note: " Feeding Speed" is not the

same as manual feeding speed.

3. "Manual Wire Feeding" controls the speed of the motor during wire feeding, which is usually used for daily

device debugging. The range is 15-600cm/min. Press and hold this button to turn the color from blue to

green and the motor will feed the wire continuously at the "Manual Wire Feeding Speed". Release the

button to stop.

4. "Manual Withdrawing" controls the speed of the motor during withdrawing, which is usually used for daily

device debugging. The range is 15-600cm/min. Press and hold this button to turn the color from blue to

green. The motor will retreat continuously at the "Manual Withdrawing Speed". Release the button to

stop.

5. "Run" and "Stop" buttons control the wire feeder. Click "Run" button and it turns from black to green,

while "Stop" turns black. This is the "Run" mode, and the motor can feed the wire normally. Click "Stop"

button and it turns from black to red, and "Run" button turns black. This is the "Stop" mode, and the motor

stops working, unable to feed or retreat in any way.

6. "Wire Feeding Indicator" shows the wire feeding status. When the welding trigger is pressed for wire

feeding, the "indicator" turns from black to green, indicating that the wire feeder is running normally. Note:

Only when welding, the "indicator" will show green. The "Manual Wire Feeding" and "Manual

Withdrawing" modes will not change the status of the "indicator".

7. "Home" button shows the wire feeder system.

Introduction to Continuous Mode Setting page

1. "Continuous Mode Setting" shows the setting page for continuous mode.

2. "Feeding Speed" is the same as "Feeding Speed" on the home page. It controls the speed of wire feeding.

The range is 15-600 cm/min. You can directly input the desired speed using the numeric keypad or adjust it

quickly with the arrow keys. Note: All parameters on this page can be adjusted by directly clicking on the

value or by clicking the arrow keys. The same applies to the following settings.

3. "Start-up Delay" controls the time delay before the wire feeder starts after the welding trigger is pressed.

The range is 0-2000ms, usually set to 0. For example, if the start delay is set to 1000ms, the wire feeding will

start after waiting for 1 second after pressing the welding trigger.

4. "Withdrawal Length" controls the length of the wire retraction when the wire is broken. The range is

0-100mm, usually set to 10. You can adjust it appropriately according to the thickness of the wire and the

length of the wire feeding tube.

5. "Supplement Length" controls the length of wire feeding for compensation after the wire feeder retracts

the broken wire. It is used to compensate for the effect of the " Withdrawal Length" and keep the

consistency of the joint for the next welding. The range is 0-100mm. In principle, it should be consistent

with the " Withdrawal Length ". However, if the wire feeding tube resistance is too high, it can also be

slightly greater than the " Withdrawal Length ".

6. " Supplement Delay" controls the time interval between wire compensation and wire retraction after the

wire breaks. It is used to prevent the wire from sticking to the weld because of too early compensation. The

range is 0-2000ms. Usually set to 0.

7. Click "Language" to switch to another language. Note: The standard version supports Simplified Chinese,

Traditional Chinese, English, Korean, Japanese, Russian, German, French, and Latin. If you need other

languages, please contact our company.

8. "Manual Feed Speed" controls the speed of the "Manual Wire Feeding" on the home page. It is used for

daily equipment debugging. The range is 15-600cm/min. Usually set to 300cm/min.

9. "Manual Withdrawal Speed" controls the speed of "Manual Withdrawing" on the home page and is used

for daily equipment debugging. The range is 15~600cm/min. Usually set at 300cm/min.

10. "System Version" displays the control system version of the wire feeder, where "220" represents the

system hardware version, "601" represents the system software version, and "410" represents the system

screen version. Note: Each part of the version corresponds to each other. During after-sale maintenance,

the versions should be consistent, otherwise there may be abnormal displays or partially invalid functions.

11. "Save" controls the storage action of the wire feeder system, including all parameters except for

"Language" on the "Home" and "Setting" pages. Click "Save", and it will change from yellow to green,

4. Supplement Length: Compensates for the wire feed after the wire is broken and retracted, used to

compensate Withdrawal Length. It can maintain the consistency of the joint for the next welding. The

range is 0 to 100mm, and should be consistent with "Withdrawal Length". If there is a large resistance in

the wire feeding tube, it can be slightly longer than "Withdrawal Length".

5. Supplement Delay: Controls the time for the wire feed between the wire compensation and wire retraction

when broken, used to prevent the wire from sticking to the weld due to early wire compensation. The range

is 0 to 2000ms, and is usually set to 0.

6. Speed Balance: Based on "Feeding Speed", fine-tune the speed of "Motor B" to maintain consistency of

dual-wire feeding. The range is -10 to 10cm/min, usually set to 0.

7. System Version: Records the hardware and software versions of the equipment, used to provide to

technical personnel for after-sales service.

8. Communication Status: Indicates the communication status between standard control boards. When

normal, displays "Connected". When there is a fault, it displays "Not Connected" and "Motor B" is not

controlled.

9. Language: Indicates the current interface language, click to switch. The standard version includes Chinese,

2. Pulse Cycle: It controls the size of each "fish scale" pattern, where a bigger pulse cycle will result in a larger

"fish scale" pattern. The range is from 100 to 1000ms, commonly set to 500ms.

3. Smoothness: Controls the "fluctuation" between two fish scales, where a smaller value results in a more

noticeable overall effect. The range is from 25% to 80%, commonly set to 30.

4. Other parameters are consistent with the continuous mode. Note: The "Manual Wire

Feeding/Withdrawing Speed," "Start-up Delay," and "Supplement Delay" of the pulse mode are the

same as those of the continuous mode, and typically do not need to be modified. Therefore, individual

4.2 Maintenance and Replacement Method of Protective Lens

1. The processing characteristics of laser welding require regular maintenance of the lenses. If the welding

effect is not good, check whether the protective lens is dirty and replace it in time.

2. The cleaning technique for the lens is extremely important. Poor cleaning can cause a decrease in its

performance, and even cause the lens to be damaged. Therefore, when cleaning it, care must be taken.

3. Before operation, wash hands with detergent and dry them. Then dry hands again with cotton balls soaked

in alcohol.

4. Before cleaning, prepare a blower, a precision screwdriver, anti-dust non-adhesive tape, degreasing cotton

(fine cotton), industrial alcohol with a concentration over 99%, finger cots or rubber gloves, and lens

cleaning paper.

5. Remove the screws of the protection lens chamber cover in a relatively dust-free area, and remove the

protection lens holder to inspect the protection lens. If the protection lens is contaminated, it must be

cleaned using lens cleaning paper dipped in anhydrous alcohol. (If there are obvious burn marks on the

surface of the protection lens, it should be directly replaced).

6. Then check the white pressure sealing ring under the protection lens. (If there are any scratches or

deformations, it must be replaced immediately).

7. Use an alcohol-dipped cotton ball to wipe the chamber cover and its inner side, quickly insert the

protection lens holder into the chamber, and tighten the screws.

4. Laser Unlocking Code

When the laser source is locked, it can be unlocked in this interface. The user can directly enter the

unlocking code provided by the laser source manufacturer to unlock it without needing to connect the

5. Instruction for filler wire welding

1) Before welding: Choose the appropriate welding wire, currently available in diameters of φ0.8, φ1.0,

and φ1.2. Choose the suitable feeding wheel according to the wire feeding diameter, and install the

wire feeding clamp on the welding gun. Replace the nozzle with a filler wire nozzle and ensure that the

welding wire is in the middle of the nozzle while ensuring that the red light is in the middle of the

welding wire. Adjust the wire feeding speed, make sure that the welding wire can melt fully. The

voltage range should be between 1V-23V, and the normal wire feeding voltage is around 5V.

2) During welding: The operator can feel the significant back-pushing force of the welding wire and gently

pull the filler wire to ease the labor intensity. To avoid the wire from sticking, the welding gun should

be lifted first and then the button should be released to stop welding. Any excess welding wire in front

of the nozzle can be removed through spot welding to avoid leaving a stub in the front of the weld

seam.

3) After welding: Turn off the wire feeding machine, remove the wire feeding clamp, and replace the

nozzle for normal non-filler wire welding.

5.1.4.1 Instruction to Qilin System Wire Feeder Panel

4. "Manual Pump-back": Press to retract the welding wire quickly, and release to stop.

5. "Operation Simulation": Press to continuously feed according to the set parameters, release to retract and

stop according to the set parameters, which simulates the feeding and retracting status during welding.

6. "Feeding Speed" indicator light: When selected, the light turns on. Under constant light conditions, the

wire feeding speed can be adjusted by the "+" and "-" keys.

7. "Delay Feeding" indicator light: When selected, the light turns on. Under constant light conditions, the wire

feeding delay can be adjusted by the "+" and "-" keys.

8. "Filling Distance" indicator light: When selected, the light turns on. Under constant light conditions, the

wire compensating distance can be adjusted by the "+" and "-" keys.

9. "Pump-back Distance" indicator light: When selected, the light turns on. Under constant light conditions,

the wire retracting distance can be adjusted by the "+" and "-" keys.

10. "Running" indicator light: In normal operation mode, the indicator light blinks, and it stays on when

6 Maintenance, Warranty and Troubleshooting

6.1 Equipment Maintenance and Precautions

1. When replacing the protective lens, clean the surrounding environment and turn off the fan or air

conditioning. Cover the gun body gap with tape in time after removing the protective lens to prevent dust

from entering its inside.

2. The welding gun head contains multiple high-power fragile reflective lenses, and it should be strictly

forbidden to knock or drop it during use.

3. The entire machine must be grounded during use, and the ground wire function must be ensured. The laser

welding head should not be used on the same operating platform as the argon arc welding, nor should it

share the same ground wire with the argon arc welding machine.

4. When cleaning the gun head, do not use water or corrosive liquids to wipe it. Do not use air guns or strong

winds to blow any part of the gun head.

5. When the ambient temperature is below 0 ℃, anti-freezing fluid should be added. The water should be

replaced every month.

6.2 Troubleshooting

6.2.1 Laser Source/Water Chiller/Air Pressure Alarm

1. If the above alarms appear without using the alarm signal, please change the alarm level.

2. If the above alarms appear with using the alarm signal, check whether the high and low levels of the

equipment's alarm or alarm signal are set incorrectly.

6.2.2 Screen is not Turning on/No Response when Clicking

1. If the screen is not turning on, but the controller is powered on (fan is working), check if the four-cored line

between the controller and screen is wired correctly. Verify if the voltage between the first and fourth pins is

normal (24V).

2. If the screen is not responding to clicks during normal usage, check if the temperature of the whole machine

is too high.

3. If clicks are not registering, check if the four-core cable between the controller and screen is wired correctly,

and whether the second and third pins are functioning properly.

4. If the screen does not respond to clicks after new equipment has been installed, it may be due to an

incompatible system version. Updating the software should resolve the issue. Please contact our company

for assistance with the SD card.

6.2.3 No Light Output

1. Monitoring interface can exclude other alarms. When the welding head is in contact with the workpiece, the

secure lock will turn green, indicating that the machine is ready for operation. If it is gray, check the wiring

of the secure lock.

2. Ensure that all preparation signals are functioning properly.

3. Generally, if there is feeding wire and air output but no light output, it could either be due to laser source

malfunction or wiring issue. If there is no feeding wire and no air output, it may be an issue with the

preparation signals.

6.2.4 Light Output Stops during Processing

Check if the safety interlock and other alarms are normal on the monitoring interface, and verify if the

temperature has exceeded the temperature alarm threshold.

6.2.5 Red Light Deviation

7 Transportation, Shipping and Storage

7.1 Precautions during Shipping

1. The equipment must not be tilted or inverted during transportation.

2. Transportation may impact the laser path. Before use, inspect all connection lines.

3. When the machine is not in use for a long time, disconnect all external electrical connections and keep

components clean.

4. During long-distance transportation, do not load the machine into open cabins or vehicles, do not store in

outdoor warehouses, do not ship it together with flammable, explosive or corrosive items, and do not

expose it to rain, snow or other liquid or mechanical damage.

7.2 Precautions during Storage

1. In storage, the equipment should be placed in its original packaging. The storage environment temperature

should be between 0°C and 40°C, with a relative humidity between 45% and 80%.

2. The equipment must not be stored with any harmful gases, flammable, explosive or corrosive materials.

3. The storage location should be free from strong mechanical vibrations, impacts and strong magnetic fields.

4. The packaging box should be placed at least 20 cm above the ground. If there are no other instructions, the

maximum storage time should not exceed three months.
