GABORONE - The world has
become so unpredictable that
government cannot ignore the
necessity of defence modernisation
through technology.
Officially opening the 19th
Strategic Conference of the
Botswana Defence Force (BDF)
in Gaborone yesterday, President
Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi as such
stressed the need to continue
prioritising investment in areas
critical to national defence.
“Spending should be evidence-
based and be informed by a
thorough risk mitigation plan to
avoid value leakage,” he said.
President Masisi said the gathering
was to make decisions that had the
power to shape not just ‘our present
reality, but the course of events for
generations to come’.
He said the strength of the military
was on the readiness of its force,
not the price tag of the armaments
at its disposal, adding that it was
important to continue to uphold
and demonstrate commitment to
good governance, accountability
and transparency by making
informed decisions on resource
allocation and prioritisation. Going
forward, President Masisi said all
projects must have a memoranda
attached to justify their necessity
and must be processed through
appropriate approval channels, as
it was the case with the rest of the
non-military sphere of the public
service.
“As the Commander-in-Chief
of the Armed Forces, my aim is
to have the best equipped defence
force capable of effectively and
efficiently conducting military
operations across the wide
spectrum of conflict situations,
while implementing carefully
designed expenditure models,” he
said.
Provided that there was
embedded prudent and efficient
military spending to safeguard
national security, Dr Masisi said
the BDF was bound to achieve
its vision. “It is on this basis that
we need to put in place quality
assurance frameworks and
protocols such as Defence Reviews,
that will objectively define our
transformation, policy direction,
and provide resourcing guidance,”
he said.
President Masisi noted with
appreciation the role that the
country’s strategic partners were
playing to help build credible
defence capability. Recently, he
said, the US government offered
excess defence articles in the form
of a C130H aircraft at no cost to
Botswana.
He said the gesture was highly

He said it was essential to reflect
on the sacrifices made by fallen
heroes and draw inspiration from
their dedication to safeguarding the
country’s security and sovereignty.
President Masisi said the current
BDF cadre must continue to
uphold that legacy through their
actions and decisions in serving
the country. He also commended
the Commander Lt Gen. Placid
Segokgo for bringing together the
BDF senior leadership to introspect
and reflect on issues of strategic
importance.
He said the conference theme;
Reshaping the Organisation for
High Performance Through
Mindset Change, With Specific
Reference to Enhancing Service
Delivery, resonated well with
Botswana’s Vision 2036, the
government’s Transformation
Agenda, the Reset and Reclaim
Agenda, policy direction on
Mindset Change, and the recently
approved National Transformation
Strategy. President Masisi said the
theme was also in line with the
Ministry of Defence and Security’s
mindset change roadmap that was
rolled out on November 10, 2023.
“Moreover, your theme
underscores the importance of
enhanced service delivery; it speaks
to the Performance Agreements
that are signed between myself and
the ministers, and cascaded to the
accounting officers, including the
Commander of the BDF,” he said.
He said it was imperative for
the BDF to constantly monitor,
assess and evaluate its policies,
strategies, plans and programmes
to determine their relevance to the
current and future security threats.
“Your plans and strategies
should also factor in the interests
of the public, as your number one
customer,” he said. BOPA

Residents welcome upcoming projects

MOKUBILO - There are a
number of projects budgeted for
and set to be implemented in Boteti
East this financial year.
According to the area MP, Mr
Sethomo Lelatisitswe, the recently
concluded Parliament budget
session has approved and released
funds for these projects.
In Mokubilo, the construction
of a long-awaited clinic with a
maternity wing is on the horizon.
The facility will also include
three staff houses. During a
kgotla meeting on Tuesday, the
MP mentioned that the project is
scheduled to commence in June.
Additionally, Mokubilo will
witness the expansion of electricity
connection within the village. In
Makgaba, a clinic with four staff
houses is slated for construction
this financial year.

Mr Monthusi Ketumile, expressed

Masisi applauds BDF for
effective mandate execution

Defence Force (BDF) has been
commended for effectively
executing its mandate of
preserving peace and stability both
domestically and internationally.
Officially opening the BDF 19th
Strategic Conference at Glen Valley,
Gaborone yesterday, President
Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi said that
was why in 2021 government
was confident to deploy members
of BDF to Mozambique, under
the Southern African Military
Intervention in Mozambique
(SAMIM), a mission that had been
successful thus far.
He applauded BDF for a
sterling job in dislodging
terrorists, disrupting their lines
of communication and logistics,
forcing their leaders into isolation
and completely taking away their
freedom of action throughout the
deployment period.
Dr Masisi said BDF troops had
displayed resilience and the highest
level of professionalism at SAMIM,
which earned them respect and
recognition among their peers and
other militaries.
“This is despite some isolated
unfortunate incidents of misconduct
and loss of lives, which have the
potential to tarnish the good name
BDF has made over the years,” he
said.
Therefore, he urged BDF to
jealously guard against such
incidents and be proactive in
mitigating such occurrences.
Also, President Masisi said
gender-based violence (GBV) and
crime were an eye-sore, which
needed deliberate and decisive
action. He reminded BDF senior
officers that the military played a
critical role in the preservation of
democratic ideals.

Emphasising the importance
of mindset change, the President
urged the BDF senior officers
to inspire their subordinates and
influence their positive behavioural
change. “Forego old habits that do
not add value and adopt new habits
that make a difference,” he said.
“Let us all remember that in the
military, leadership paves the path
for unit cohesion, they serve as
a compass for the entire force to
follow,” he said.
Dr Masisi said some of the
commitments that he made in
the past were in relation to the
welfare of the military personnel,
which included improvement of
BDF pensions, general conditions
of service and infrastructure
development.
“I also gave strategic guidance
on capability development in
order for BDF to attain desired
combat capability and operational
efficiency,” he said.
The President said most of
the promises had been realised
including salary restructuring,
code-named ‘Ntlole’ as well as
issuance of a Directive on March
11, 2024 for the BDF pension
denominator to be improved from
n/600 to n/375.
He said the issue of pensions had
been an outstanding issue since
1998 when government improved
pensions for the Public Service. “I

GABORONE - Botswana is
committed to multilateral order
because it recognises that greater
achievements are possible when
government joins forces with other
voices.

told envoys during the Heads of
Mission Conference in Gaborone
yesterday.

to review the progress made in
advancing the country’s national
interests and diplomatic relations.
“Our world view has adjusted
to the modern times and it is
very important to anchor this, but
some of the fundamentals remain
important such as our commitment
to multilateralism. We are still a
relatively small country, not just
by population size but also by
economic size, we are land linked,”
he said.
President Masisi said Botswana
was reaching out to attain
confluence, alignment, solidarity
and partnerships guided by
intentions of reciprocity which
was the conduit of Botswana’s
multilateral order.
“Of course at the centre of it is
Botswana and her interests, the
image you put forward is that of
the concept that Botswana is all
about in all its manifestations,
the cultural, economic, physical,
political and our vehemence as a
people borne out of the evolution
of a nation state,” said President
Masisi.

international relations as they

such institutions helped advance

and avenues to serve interest of the
economy at home.
“It could either be through trade
and investment, the question is
what opportunities are there for
Botswana institutions and the
critical human capital to invest
in and leverage through? What
possibility is there to translocate
the talent and human capital to
come and domicile from where
you are accredited to Botswana,”
he said.

capacities of every existing mission

BURS surpasses target by P367m

GABORONE - Botswana
Unified Revenue Service (BURS)
has achieved a tax revenue
collection of P59.566 billion for
the financial year 2023/2024,
surpassing the target of P59.199
billion by P367 million, which is
0.62 per cent.
Addressing a press conference
Tuesday, BURS Commissioner
General, Ms Jeanette Makgolo
commended BURS staff
members for doing all in their
power to achieve the target,
saying the collection marked the
highest figure that BURS had ever
attained since its establishment.
As at March 31, Ms Makgolo
said the preliminary accounts
indicated that the tax revenue
collected was P59.566 billion.

MAUN - Matlapana community
has been lauded for reviving
the spirit of volunteerism and
self-reliance to complement
government efforts by
contributing towards community
projects.
Through unity and cooperation,
the community has come up with
an initiative dubbed, motho le
motho kgomo, which aims to
raise funds to construct a satellite
police station in their area in a bid
to bring services closer and curb
the escalating criminal activities.
The envisaged project is
estimated to cost P18 million
and the initiative followed
the community’s engagement
with Botswana Police Service’
management, who had given
them their blessings to construct
such project.
The North West District
leadership praised villagers
during a meeting to appraise
them about the proposed project
and to seek support.
They appreciated the
community’s efforts and assured
them of full support, pointing out
that in other villages the spirit
was slowly fading away even
though it used to work wonders
as far as project implementation
was concerned.
“Self-reliance is one of the
foundational principles that have
shaped the country over the years
in terms of driving sustainable
developments, but it is slowly
fading away. However, I am
pleased to see some communities
reviving it,” said the district
commissioner, Mr Thabang
Waloka.
He appreciated Matlapana
community for their efforts of
meeting government halfway

formed to spearhead the
initiative, Ms Ratanang Tshekiso
informed the meeting that the
initiative was a brainchild of
Kgosi Tshupegetso Bontsibokae
of Matlapana, who successfully
sold the idea to the nine wards.
She said the community was
concerned about the escalating
number of criminal activities and
believed that constructing their
own satellite police station would
help reduce the incidents.
She disclosed that the plan was
to start the ball rolling in June,
with the project estimated to be
completed in December next
year.
She appealed to the business
community and the public at large
to support Matlapana community
to achieve the dream, adding that
the project would enhance police
visibility, coverage and response.

Shakawe man falls from
stepladder, dies

MAUN - Shakawe police are
investigating an incident in which
a 31-year-old man died from head
injuries he sustained when he fell
off a stepladder.
The man was carrying out
maintenance work at a filling
station over the Easter Holidays.
Assistant superintendent
Babinang Banohi confirmed the
incident, noting that the deceased,
who originates from Ndundu
ward in Shakawe, together with
other men, were installing a
ceiling.
Those who witnessed the
incident reported that the
stepladder slid and the deceased
fell from the top and sustained
serious injuries at the back of his
head.
The deceased was immediately
rushed to JP Kavindama
Memorial Hospital, where he was
certified dead upon arrival.
Investigations continue.

massive search for the culprits
while investigations continue,”

BERA issues BOL petroleum products licence

GABORONE - The
Botswana Energy Regulatory
Authority (BERA) on Tuesday
issued the Botswana Oil
Limited (BOL) a licence for the
importation and exportation of
petroleum products.
The move follows an
amendment of the regulatory
authority’s Act that led to a 90
per cent import quota being
offered to the government-
owned company, which has
been hailed as vital in pursuit
of energy security.
Speaking at the event, BERA
caretaker Chief Executive
Officer, Dr Grace Tabengwa,
said the authority has been
working to develop several
critical instruments for better
regulation of the energy sector
in Botswana.
“These instruments include
bulk import and export
of petroleum products,
development, operation and
decommissioning of petroleum
infrastructure, transportation
of petroleum products as well
as manufacturing of petroleum
products,” she said.
Dr Tabengwa said the issuing
of the licence now meant that
BOL would start to import and
supply petroleum products into
the country.
“The Act imposes restrictions
on the importation of petroleum
products to other regulated
entities, except for majority
citizen companies,” she said.
“So all petroleum products
import licences previously
issued by the authority became
defunct on March 31.”
Dr Tabengwa said however
that companies will be allowed
to re-apply for import licences
under the new dispensation and
that for the sake of security of
supply and promotion of citizen
participation, some majority
citizen owned companies that
have been actively importing
will continue to do so for a
period of six months from
April 1.
She said the licence, which
entered into force on April
1, also compelled BOL to
among others, plan, maintain,
refurbish, install and develop
the facilities and equipment
necessary for the safe carrying
out of the licensed activities.
Mr Meshack Tshekedi,
the chief executive officer of
BOL, said the licence was a
major milestone for BOL and
the nation at large and was a
culmination of efforts started
years back.
“We have benchmarked on
the best practices from other
countries in readiness of the
import license and we assure
you that we are ready for this
important milestone,” he said.
Mr Tshekedi said this was more
so that as BOL, they were aware

Researchers develop technologies to manage waste

PALAPYE - Ambitious
researchers in the Department
of Earth and Environmental
Science at the Botswana
International University of
Science and Technology
(BIUST), continue to develop
technologies that can enhance
mine waste management in
Botswana.
A study conducted by some of
the students at the department,
indicated that with the expansion
of the mining industry,
associated environmental
problems increased because
some mining operations were not
compliant with the provisions of
environmental safety.
According to the study, the
BCL copper mine was reported
to have generated serious
environmental problems that
were directly related to poor
mine waste management.
Speaking in an interview with
BOPA, Prof. Venecio Ultra,
said there were a number of
abandoned mines in Botswana,
while currently there were
inadequate methods in place to
contain waste generated, hence
the aim was to rehabilitate heavy
metal polluted areas, citing the
Francistown Gold Mine and the
BCL Mine in Selebi Phikwe as
examples.
He noted in Selebi Phikwe,

ensure that our economy
continues operating,” he said.
He said BOL would continue
to work with citizen and
international companies and all
other stakeholders to move the
industry forward.
Mr Tshekedi also gave an
assurance that BOL would
ensure that the country has fuel
at all times, which he said was
a major energy driver in the

Prof. Ultra said the goal was to
convert contaminated water into
water that is safe for agricultural
use, citing an example of the
citrus plantation in Selebi
Phikwe as potential beneficiary
of the project. “Citrus plantation
needs plenty of water.
Currently they are using
water from the dam, therefore
competing with domestic use.
We need to provide an alternative
source for irrigation,” he said.
Prof. Ultra said another
technology was developing a
farming system, which would
enable farmers to produce crops
that contained less amount of
heavy metals and at the same
time being safe for human
consumption.
He said currently they were
doing field experiment on the
system, while it was in its second
year of evaluation and the results
are impressive and promising.
He said the results of the first
evaluation had already been
presented to the Selebi Phikwe
Town Council and hopefully
their recommendations would be
adopted.
There was also another
technology developed at BIUST
to be used in the extraction
of essential oil from plants.
Prof. Ultra said essential oil
could be used in medical drug
manufacturing, perfumery and
cosmetics, among others. BOPA

Groups call for women representation

FRANCISTOWN - Ahead of
Botswana’s upcoming general
elections due this year, women
advocacy organizations around
the country are encouraging more
women to run for political office.
They are determined to make
sure the slogan ‘The Future is
Female’ becomes a reality and
ensure women’s voices are heard
and their contributions valued
within the political space.
And the feeling is mutual for
these organizations who are of
the view that while the current
President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi,
has made advances towards gender
equality, there is still room for
improvement.
They believe that women bring
a unique perspective and a set of
skills to the table and that having
more women in positions of
power can help to create a more
balanced and fair government.
Women’s advocacy comes
amid the Independent Electoral
Commission’s resolve to hold
the second voter supplementary
registration scheduled for May 20-
31. The first voters’ supplementary
came to a close on March 31.
“It is not enough to just have
one or two women in positions of
power. We need more women at
the decision-making table and we
need more such representation at
all levels of governance.
We need more women in
Parliament, in local councils, and
in leadership positions within the
civil service,” said Ms Kopano
Christmas of the Boy Child
Foundation, whose other mandate
is to support and empower women.
Ms Christmas explained that
while the women’s advocacy
organisations are encouraging
women to stand for elections,
the success of their efforts will
ultimately depend on the political
parties’ selection processes.
“The primary elections will
determine who will represent each
party in the general elections. This
means that many women may be
interested in running for office,
but may not get the chance to do
so if they are not chosen by their
parties,” she explained.

Christmas says the organisations
are optimistic that more women

coming elections and make their
voices heard.
“I will urge women to support
those standing for political
positions and stop celebrating
when a woman has lost either
during primary elections or the
national general polls,” she said.
She cited that the appointment of
Commissioner of Police, Ms Dinah
Marathe and Minister of Finance,
Ms Peggy Serame is a testament
that women are capable leaders.
“Many women are holding high
positions in government circles and
parastatals.
The Permanent Secretary to
the President is a woman, and we
have more women at permanent
secretary positions,” she added.
“We are calling on all eligible
women to stand for elections and
make their voices heard,” said Ms
Christmas.
She said from the early days of
Botswana’s independence, women
have played an important role in the
country’s sociopolitical economy.
On the other side, Emang Basadi,
a women’s rights organisation
formally registered in 1986 has
been carrying consultations
with political parties to analyze
institutional policies such as
manifestoes, constitutions and
others.
Secretary General, Dr Cheludo
Butale notes that the findings
will be used to train political
parties on gender mainstreaming,
constitutional review awareness
campaigns and electoral system
review planned for Kang, Palapye,
Selebi-Phikwe and Francistown.
Dr Butale explained that parties
will be taken through the paces
on pertinent issues such as gender
parity.
Also, Emang Basadi will lobby
for the increase of nominated
Members of Parliament by the
President to 50 per cent. Dr Butale
explained that the organisation
has also been working with other
political parties and women’s
organisations in Botswana and
had made a submission to the
Commission of Inquiry into
the Review of the Constitution

“We are also currently working
on a capacity-building project
supported by the European Union
titled: Botswana Constitutional
Review Process: Towards a People
Driven Constitution.
She said the project seeks
to sensitise, and capacitate the
diverse Botswana population on
the constitution and the review
process, facilitate and document
the inclusive and meaningful
participation and contribution of
all citizens, including women.
BOCONGO is the lead organization
on the project and has been working
with Ditshwanelo, BONELA and
Emang Basadi in the past. It held
stakeholder dialogues in Palapye,
Selebi-Phikwe, Francistown and
Hukuntsi focusing on prioritized
thematic areas, gender equality and
women in politics issues.
“Emang Basadi Women’s
Association is not satisfied with
the number of women and youth
representation in Parliament,”
she added highlighting that only
seven out of the 63 members of the
National Assembly of Botswana
are women. Dr Butale said the
representation of women continues
to be low and that Emang Basadi
carried out National Constitutional

Presidential call for the reform of
Botswana’s constitution.
A national study for increasing
women’s representation in politics
titled: Mme O Kae or Where is
the Mother, was also conducted
by Emang Basadi to assess issues
that obstruct women from taking
up positions of decision-making,
especially in the political arena.
The research findings in
Gaborone, Palapye, Good
Hope, and Kgalagadi North,
she explained, indicate several
issues that obstruct women from
participating in politics including
discriminatory laws and patriarchy-
based institutions that hamper
women’s efforts to run for political
office. Dr Butale said in 2014,
the number of female voters was
456 087 while men were 368 347
but women support men and not
women as they believe men make
better leaders than women.
“Gender Stereotypes and cultural
expectations lead to a situation
where women do not support each
other and women only celebrate
the loss of other women. They see
politics as meant for men due to
patriarchal culture,” said Dr Butale.
In this regard, Dr Butale said there
was a need for political education.
“Women tend to support or vote for

the political sphere, such as
underrepresentation, stereotypes,
and a lack of resources.
She said her organisation expect
to see an increase of 10 women
in the next Parliament after
general elections. However, she
was hopeful that much progress
has been made in recent years,
including the increased registration
of women voters, suggesting that
change is possible.
She explained that Dr Chiepe
became the first woman to be
selected to the country’s Parliament
in 1974 through the specially
elected dispensation and became
the first woman to be appointed a
Cabinet Minister.
Ms Nkhwanana said this moment
in history paved the way for other
women to follow in her footsteps
and enter the political arena.
“By continuing to work towards
equality, Botswana can build on the
legacy of pioneers like Dr Gaositwe
Chiepe, Ms Tebelelo Seretse, Dr
Margaret Nasha, Dr Unity Dow,
Ms Botlogile Tshireletso, the late
Lesego Motsumi, and create a
just and inclusive future for all
citizens,” said Ms Nkhwanana.
Like other women, Ms
Nkhwanana believes that the
progress made in recent years,
including the increased number
of women in Parliament, suggests
that change is possible.
But it was not until Dr Gaositwe
Chiepe became the first woman
in Parliament that the door was
truly opened for women’s political
It is worth noting that while Dr
Chiepe’s election was a significant
moment in history, it was also just
the beginning of a long journey
towards full gender equality in

court on Tuesday dismissed an urgent
application filed by National Assembly

to interdict a possible arrest of her on
corruption charges.
The ruling, which clears the path for her
potential arrest, marks a new setback for
the African National Congress (ANC) just
before the upcoming 2024 elections.

NAIROBI - Kenya’s National Counter
Terrorism Center (NCTC) on Tuesday
launched a public information portal to
increase public awareness of the threat of
violent extremism.
NCTC Director Rosalind Nyawira said
the portal, known as “Jasiri observatory,”
which translates to “resilience
observatory,” will be used to sensitize,
inform and empower individuals and
communities to understand and respond
to violent ideologues peddled by extremist
groups.
“Violent extremism is a threat to national
security. This portal empowers individuals
and communities to identify and discredit
violent extremist ideologies, facilitating
public dialogue on the threat of violent
extremism,” Nyawira said at the launch of
the portal in Garissa University, located in

the 2015 Garissa University attack that
occurred nine years ago.

book titled Puo Letlotlo, seeks
to make learning Setswana
enjoyable and fun for children.
The 33-year-old Motswana
author’s offering is packed
with short stories, puzzles and
crosswords which make the
book an alluring and engaging
educational resource for its target
readership.
In an interview yesterday Lovy,
who holds a degree in journalism
from Limkokwing University,
said Puo Letlotlo provideed
a comprehensive learning
experience for young readers
especially as it prides itself in
the use of rich Setswana words
which form part of day-to-day
conversations.
Sharing the inspiration behind
penning the book, she said
curiosity of many about her own
Setswana name, which many
perceived as complex sparked
her decision to devise the means
to help young readers explore the
Setswana language.
Passionate about the rich
Setswana language, Lovy found
deciding to write the book an
easy task to follow through with
given how close to her heart the
language is.
She says through the book, she
uncovered the meaning behind
many Setswana names and words
and promoted the use of the
language at home among children.

importance of fully embracing
one’s language, instead of

Lefika relays set
for April 6

GABORONE - Lefika Athletics
Club will host the second
edition of Lefika International
Continental tour at the National
Stadium on Saturday.
The relays will be used as
qualifiers for the 2024 Olympics
and the World Relays that will be
held in The Bahamas.
About 300 athletes, local and
international, are expected to
compete in different events being
relays, hurdles and steeple chase.
Lefika chairperson, Thari
Mooketsi said they were to host
the memorable event.
He said despite lack of event
sponsorship, they were confident
that the event would produce a
qualifier.
So far, Mooketsi said only
Namibia had confirmed its
participation.
He, however, said they
were expecting more
countries’confirmation by Friday.
“For the event to be recognised,
we need two countries to
compete, so there is Botswana
and Namibia, but we need more
countries to confirm so that
the competition becomes very
competitive,” he said.

are 100m hurdles, 110m
hurdles, 400m hurdles, 3000m
steeplechase and visually
impaired events.
Botswana will be represent by
Phocis Raphe, Tutu Massa, Tumo
van Wyk, and Calvin Omphile,
Letsile Tebogo, Stensol Sibanda
in the 4x100m men’s relays.
In the 4x100m women,
Botswana will be represented
by Nancy Budzani, Tsaone
Sebele, Refilwe Murangi, Lone
Madzimule and Winnie Sarefo.
The 4x400m men is made up
Zibani Ngozi, Ernest Kumevu,
Anthony Pesela, Omphile
Seribe, Kabo Rankgwe and Isaac
Makwala.
The 4x400m women team
comprises of Christine
Botlogetswe, Tlhompang
Basele Motlatsi Rante, Batisani
Kennekae, Golekanye Chikanyi,
and Jack Rita. The mixed relay
4x400m has Keitumetse Maitseo,
Clifton Meshack, Kago Seshoka,
Batisani Kennekae and Chikani.

Nawa marches to
juniors tourney
quarterfinal

GABORONE - Local tennis
player, Mark Nawa has made it
to the quarterfinal of the World
Tennis Tour Juniors tournament
to be played at Notwane Courts
today.
Nawa eliminated South Africa’s
Rynard Van Der 7-6(5), 6-3 on
his way to the quarterfinal and
yesterday thrashed another South
African, Hlumanani Kekana 6-3,
6-3.
He said in an interview that his
target was to reach the final and
ultimately win the title.
“I played in the final of the
same tournament and finished
in position two, but this time
around I want to win the title,”
he said.
Nawa said he had played
against Kekana before in the

Nawa said he took the first set
6-3 but that Kekana played much
better on the second set. “It was
really a tough second set, but I
gained my momentum and held
serve,” he said
Kekana praised Nawa as a
tough opponent and that he had
lost to him last year in the same
tournament. He said he tried to
perform, but that did not work
out as planned.

lost 6-2, 6-4 to Israel Dowie of Nawa holding serve against Kekana
