Chapter 1
1. Introduction
In response to the rising need for sustainable energy solutions and the desire to
diversify energy sources, this technical research investigates the viability of
developing a solar farm as an alternative energy source in Poblacion, Malalag, Davao
del Sur. The use of renewable energy technology is becoming increasingly important
in reducing the environmental problems associated with traditional fossil fuel-based
power generation. Poblacion hopes to lessen its dependency on traditional electrical
systems by utilizing solar energy, therefore contributing to a cleaner and more
sustainable environment. The municipality of Poblacion, Malalag, Davao del Sur,
located in an area with plenty of sunshine, offers an excellent potential for the
development of solar energy projects. Solar power is a renewable and infinite energy
source that may greatly reduce the greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution
associated with typical energy sources. Poblacion can improve energy security and
resilience by expanding its energy portfolio to include solar, as well as promote
economic growth and job creation in the neighborhood.
This report will examine the area's solar potential, taking into account solar
irradiance, land availability, legal framework, and economic viability. The transition
to solar energy is consistent with national and global environmental objectives,
particularly the Philippines' commitment to boosting renewable energy capacity.
Poblacion's use of solar electricity can serve as an example for other towns looking to
minimize their carbon footprint and adapt to the effects of climate change. This
research seeks to give useful insights to decision-makers for informed energy
planning and policy development by presenting the technical specifications and
viability of a solar farm in Poblacion.
Anticipating future energy demands and development paths is also critical for
long-term energy planning. Population increase, economic development, and
technical improvements may all impact energy consumption patterns and the
scalability of solar energy installations. Poblacion can react to changing energy needs
and maximize the use of solar energy by including flexibility into solar farm
architecture and implementing smart grid technology. A comprehensive study of
Poblacion's energy environment includes a thorough examination of household,
agricultural, and commercial energy consumption trends, as well as projections for
future expansion and technology improvements. Solar farm designers may use this
knowledge to create new solutions that maximize energy output, improve grid
dependability, and encourage sustainable growth in the neighborhood. The use of
solar energy not only decreases reliance on fossil fuels, but it also promotes resilience,
economic empowerment, and environmental stewardship, establishing Poblacion as a
regional paradigm for sustainable energy transition.
2.1 Population
Malalag, Davao del Sur has a household population of 38,640 people as of the
2015 Census. During the census year, the municipality's entire population was divided
among 10,367 households. Malalag had 10,367 households, which reflected the
number of independent dwelling units or family houses identified during the census.
Malalag's households had an average of 3.73 individuals. This average household size
was determined by dividing the total household population (38,640) by the number of
households (10,367), resulting in a statistical measure of Malalag's typical family or
household composition during the 2015 Census. These demographic statistics provide
light on the population distribution and family structures in Malalag, Davao del Sur,
providing insight into the community's residential patterns and household sizes at the
time.
