ON THE FLOOR / ON THE WALL WEAVING I

Design and weave something for the floor or the wall. Give special consideration
to the materials you choose to weave with.
PROJECT DETAILS

• A sturdy warp like seine twine or 4/8 cotton is recommended.

• For weft, consider used clothing (Stretch fabrics like t-shirts will require
special handling), salvaged yarns or even experimental materials like
paper, wire and plant materials. How do the materials you use impact the
content/meaning of your work?
• Weaving with rags, simple inlay and pile weaving techniques will be
demonstrated.
• The recommended finished scale for this project is 30 x 60 inches.
(Minimum size 24 x 48 if working with finer weft rags).
• Most projects will use a simple twill threading in a straight draw (1, 2, 3, 4)
Students interested in twill pattern may consider something more
complex.
• Thoughtful finishing and mounting is a requirement for this project. If your
work is to be used on the floor, it should be sturdy and durable for regular
use. If it is for the wall your work should be prepared as appropriate.
Thumb tacks or t-pins alone are not acceptable hanging methods.
EVALUATION Your weaving will be evaluated on the following criteria.
