N HUB COUPLING REMOVAL Done Comment

NOTE :
1 Put the marking with the permanent marker for all assembly parts i.e. coupling, hub coupling etc. before dismantling 
these parts from its existing installation to make easier and ensure that all parts to be reinstalled to its original position

2 Remove the coupling guard with its related connected piping 

Disconnect the coupling HP-MP compressor and measure DBSE (Distance Between Shaft End) as below:

3 

Measure the distance between hub face to shaft end (A1) before installing the special tool for hub removal. This practice will
ensure us that we can re-install the hub coupling back to its original position.

4 

Install the dial gauge and check the shaft end play which should be of 0.35 to 0.45 mm.
5 NOTE : IF THE VALUE IS OUT OF 0.35 TO 0.45 MM, PERFORM ADJUSTMENT OF THE THRUST BEARING 
END CLEARANCE IF REQUIRED

3 Measure the distance between hub face to shaft end (A0 as below picture) and compared with the previous measurement of A1
(before dismantling). The difference (A1-A0) will be the required movement of the hub coupling to its original position by using
the special hydraulic tools (to be monitored the movement by using the dial gauge).

- Install the hub coupling with the special tools as below :

4 

- Install the hydraulic jack equipment SKF72910B and SKF729124 and ensure the fitting connection s are already tightened
properly

CAUTIONS :
1 - Never exceed an oil pressure of 2450 bars, in order to preclude injury to personnel and tool damages. Do not forget
5 that the hub coupling placement itself, over the shaft cone, causes a pressure rise. 
2 - After having finally installed the hub coupling collar and reduced the oil pressure down to zero, wait for 2 hours
minimum before removing the tool, so that all oil will be drained off.

Pump the hydraulic oil to the special tool for coupling hub installer to pressure as follows :
- Expander side (center plug) : Max 2450 Barg (by using SKF72910B)
- Pusher side (outer connection): Max 100 MPa (by using SKF729124)
6 
WARNING : NEVER STAND UP IN FRONT OF THE SPECIAL TOOL FOR COUPLING HUB INSTALLER
WHILE IT IS UNDER HIGH HYDRAULIC PRESSURE
7 Hold the condition until 2-4 hours. 
Release the pressure at center socket (expander) gradually around one hour before release the pusher pressure. Check the hub
8
movement (if any) from the dial gauge when release the pusher pressure

Remove the special tools and measure again the distance between hub face to shaft end (A1) to ensure the hub has been installed
9
back to its original position and check again DBSE

10 Reinstall the coupling guard with its piping 

1 

2 Prepare a hydraulic pump fitted with a pressure gauge and a flexible hose 
WARNING :
1. Never exceed an oil pressure of 2400 Bar in order to avoid injury to personnel and tool damage. DO NOT forget that the
3
collar placement, itself, over the shaft cone causes a rise in pressure

2. The tool screws must be tightened slowly and evenly (use a torque wrench)
Install the disassembling tools
4 WARNING : NEVER TO DIASSEMBLE THE THRUST COLLAR WITHOUT THE DISASSEMBLING TOOL IN 
PLACE
5 Connect the pump to the compressor shaft using the flexible hose 
6 Vent the circuit of air 
7 Tighten the tool screws to a 4 mkg torque and build up the oil pressure to 500 Bar 
Wait 10 minutes for the oil to be well distributed, retighten the screws to 3 mkg, and build up pressure to 250 Bar. Repeat this step
8
until a leak appears (unstable pressure on the pressure gauge)

Admit oil quickly with help of the pump so as, in spite of the leakage, to increase the pressure, until the thrust collar gets separated
9
(characterized by a sharp snap)

NOTE :
10 DISASSEMBLING IS PERFORMED AT HIGHER PRESSURE THAN ASSEMBLING, COMPLIANCE WITH THE 

10 On shaft - Fix the sleeve item 2 with the screws item 3 and install 6-14-13-9-10 as below :

11 Screw the nut item 7 (as above picture) to push the seal cartridge until its correct position 
12 Remove tool and setting plates it. 34 and 36 of seal drwg assembly CDD500141 
13 Measure dimension to determine the thickness of shims item 27 and install shims of seal drwg assembly CDD500141 
Check the rotating and statoring parts relative position given by the dimension of : 0±0,1 as below picture :

14 

15 Install the ring item 32, split ring item 30 and the drive collar item 1.11 of seal drwg assembly CDD500141 
N REASSEMBLY AND INSTALLATION OF NDE THRUST AND JOURNAL BEARING Done Comment
1 CAUTION : make certain that the bearing pads reassembly and that all parts are free from dirt and foreign materials 
Reassembly and installation of the thrust and inlet journal bearing are accomplished in the reverse order of the ‘removal and
2 disassembly’ procedure. 
NOTE : for cover (3) reassembling use stems and nuts M12

NOTE : AFTER THE THRUST BEARING HAS BEEN REASSEMBLED AND INSTALLED, CHECK THE THRUST
4
BEARING END PLAY WHICH SHOULD BE OF 0.35 TO 0.45 MM

N HYDRAULIC ASSEMBLY OF THRUST COLLAR Done Comment

1 Rub the shaft cone with oil and assembled the collar (never forget the spacer) 

2 Install the assembling tool using tool CPD900011 :

3 Connect the pump to the compressor shaft with the flexible hose 
4 Drain the circuit free of air 
Tighten the tool screws evenly, build up oil pressure (maxi 150 bar). The mounting is realized a several operations of about 0.5mm
5
until the collar comes into contact with the spacer.

WARNING :
1. Never exceed an oil pressure of 2400 Bar in order to avoid injury to personnel and tool damage. DO NOT forget that the
collar placement, itself, over the shaft cone causes a rise in pressure
6
2. The tool screws must be tightened slowly and evenly (use a torque wrench)

3. After having finally assembly of thrust collar, and reduced the oil pressure to zero, wait a minimum of 2 hours before
removing the assembling tool clear, so that all the oil will be drained
7 Reinstall the nut, washer and spacer 
8 Reinstall all screws and the cover with outer thrust. Use jack-screws 
N CHECK AND ADJUSMENT THE THRUST BEARING END CLEARANCE Done Comment
1 Push the compressor shaft in one direction until it is certain that the thrust pads are against the thrust collar 
2 Install a dial indicator against the compressor shaft end 
3 Pull the compressor shaft as far as possible in the opposite direction and note the dial indicator reading 
If the dial indicator reading shows and excessive end clearance, this indicates that the pads are worn or these is an incorrect number
4
of shims

If the dial indicator reading is less than the desired value, shims may be added to increase the end clearance, however, if an
5
excessive of shims is required, the thrust pads may be warped or out of place

N REMAINING REINSTATEMENT AND LEAK TEST Done Comment
1 Reinstall probes and RTD 
2 Reinstall all pipings 
Pressurize the compressor to 7~8 Bar to make sure that “O” rings have not been damaged during seal installation and observe the
3
reading of pressure for any decreasing. See NOTE as below if found any abnormality

NOTE :
After both seal cartridges, journal and thrust bearing are installed (and before coupling installation), it is suggested
to pressurize the compressor to 7~8 Bar to make sure that “O” rings have not been damaged during seal installation.
If an excessive leakage is observed, the shaft should be turned by hand in order to correct misalignment of faces. DO
NOT keep turning the shaft if the leakage remains excessive but determine the cause for such an excessive leakage.
When everything is found to be satisfactorily installed, proceed with coupling installation.
