SPEAKING IMPACT

Your ability to communicate effectively will leave a lasting impact on your audience
Effectively communicating involves not only delivering a message but also resonating
with the experiences, values, and emotions of those listening

CONSTRUCT THE NULL AND ALTERNATIVE HYPOTHESIS

Ho: rs = 0 ( There is no correlation between the scores

of the student in Mathematics and English.)
Ha: rs ≠ 0 (There is a correlation between the scores
of the student in Mathematics and English.)

CALCULATE THE DEGREES OF FREEDOM AND DETERMINE THE
CRITICAL VALUE OF T OR TCRITICAL

•df = N-2 tcritical= 2.571

= 7-2

CALCULATE THE T VALUE THEN DETERMINE THE DECISION

T = rs 𝑁 − 2 t value t critical
1 − 𝑟𝑠 2 0.555 < 2.571
T= O.25 7 − 2
1− (0.25)² Decision : do not reject the null
T= O.555 hypothesis,
STATE THE CONCLUSION

1. Is there a relationship between the two variables being tested?

rs= 0.25
There is no significant relationship between the scores of the students
in English and Math.

2. What degree is their relationship or correlation .

rs= 0.25
the correlation/ relationship is none or very weak.
How to calculate Spearman's
Rho in SPSS
RUNNING SPEARMAN CORRELATION IN SPSS

1.Analyze > Correlate > Bivariate.

2.Move variables of interest to the "Variables" box.
3.Select "Spearman" as the test. ( You may need to
uncheck "Pearson" as well)
4.You may use the "Options" button to select
descriptive statistics you wish to include as well.
5.Click "OK" to run the test.
STEPS IN ANSWERING THE EQUATION
1.Construct the null and alternative hypothesis.
2.Solve and Determine the strength of the value of Sr.
3.Calculate the degrees of freedom and determine the
critical value of tcritical. (df=n-2)
4.Calculate the Tvalue then determine the decision.
