Types of irrational thinking

All-or-Nothing Thinking (Black-and-White Thinking): When he is not chosen for the

leadership role he believes “he doesn’t have it in him to take up leadership roles.”

Overgeneralization: “never succeed in the field”

Catastrophizing: “It means that one is worthless.”

Personalization: “He feels that he has done something to upset his boss which has led to this
decision.”

Mind Reading: “He starts feeling that his team judges him as an incompetent boss.”

Emotional Reasoning: “He guilty, ashamed and believes himself to be incompetent. He thinks
that even if he tries harder, it won’t yield results.”

Should Statements: “He feels that he should quit the job because if after so much effort he
wasn’t chosen, he will never succeed in the field. He should withdraw from responsibilities
because he will mess up anyway.

Labelling: “believes himself to be incompetent.”

Mental Filter: “He starts feeling that his team judges him as an incompetent boss.” He feels so
because one team member said to him, “Sir I feel sorry for you that you didn’t get the chance”.
