Class : BE – II sem – ECE-1 (E3) Assignment – 1 Maximum Marks : 10

1) With reference to the figure given below, if the magnitude of the resultant force is to be 500
N directed along the positive Y axis, determine the magnitude of force F and its direction .
CO : 1 & BL : IV

2) Referring to the figure given below, a force F, having a slope of 2:3 , produces a clockwise
moment of 330 N-m about A and a counter clockwise moment of 420 N-m about B. Compute
the moment of F about C. CO : 1 & BL : III

3) Replace the loading on the frame by a single resultant force. Specify where its line of action
intersects the member AB, measured from A. CO : 1 & BL : IV
4) Solve for the reactions at L , M , N and S on the two cylinders shown in the figure given below
, (Assume all the surfaces to be smooth). CO : 1 & BL : IV

5) The three flat blocks are positioned on the 300 incline as shown below, and a force P parallel
to the incline is applied to the middle block. The coefficient of static friction for each of the
three pairs of mating surfaces is shown in the figure. Determine the maximum value which P
may have before any slipping takes place. CO : 2 & BL : IV

6) The coefficient of static friction for both wedge surfaces is 0.40 and that between the 27-kg
concrete block and the incline is 0.70. Determine the minimum value of the force P required
to begin moving the block up the incline. Neglect the weight of the wedge.
CO : 2 & BL : IV
7) A block (A) weighing 1 kN rests on a rough inclined plane whose inclination to the
horizontal is 45°. This block is connected to another block (B) weighing 3 kN rests on
rough horizontal plane by a weightless rigid bar inclined at an angle of 30° to the
horizontal as shown in the figure below. CO : 2 & BL : IV

8) A uniform ladder of 4 m length rests against a vertical wall with which it makes an angle of
45°. The coefficient of friction between the ladder and the wall is 0.4 and that between
ladder and the floor is 0.5. If a man, whose weight is one-half of that of the ladder ascends it,
how high will it be when the ladder slips? CO : 2 & BL : IV

Note : 1) Write your Roll Number on each page (at centre of each page).
2) Write on both the sides of pages
3) Write page number on each page (at bottom right corner of each page)
4) Draw the diagrams neatly , wherever necessary.
5) Submit the assignment on or before 05-April-2024 (Friday)
