25) List the steps involved in fat digestion in the human digestive system.
26) a) Draw a ray diagram to show the formation of images when the object is placed
in front of a concave mirror between C and F.
b) Define the pole of a spherical mirror.
SECTION C
28) a) Show the formation of magnesium chloride from magnesium and chlorine atoms.
b) Name the constituent elements of alloy Brass.
29) a) How does water enter continuously into the root xylem? 1m
b) Explain why plants have low energy needs as compared to animals.
2m
OR
Explain how the translocation of materials in phloem tissue in plants is
achieved by utilising energy. 3m
30) With the help of a neat labelled diagram, explain the process of spore formation
in bread mould.
31) The image of a candle flame placed at a distance of 30 cm from a mirror is formed
on a screen placed in front of the mirror at a distance of 60 cm from its pole.
What is the nature of the mirror? Find its focal length. If the height of the flame
is 2.4 cm, find the height of its image. State whether the image formed is erect
or inverted.
OR
The linear magnification produced by a spherical mirror of focal length 15cm is
+1/5. (i)Analysing this value, state the type of mirror (ii) Find the position of the
object. (iii) Find the position of the image. (iv) Find the size of the image, if the
height of the object is 3 cm.
32) A current carrying conductor is placed in a magnetic field. Answer the following:
a) List the factors on which the magnitude of force experienced by the
conductor depends.
b) When is the magnitude of this force maximum?
c) State the rule which helps in finding the direction of motion of the conductor.
d) If this force was acting from right to left, how will the direction of force
change if the direction of magnetic field is reversed?

33) a) Define power.
b) A torch bulb is rated 5 V and 500 mA. Calculate its
(i) Power (ii) Resistance
(iii) Energy consumed when it is lighted for 2 ½hours in kWh.
SECTION D
34) a) Explain how copper is extracted from its sulphide ore. Give equations of the
reactions involved.
OR
b) Which hormone is released into the blood when sugar level rises? Name the
gland which produces this hormone? Why is this gland also called an
exo-endocrine gland?
36) a) What is a solenoid? Draw magnetic field lines showing the magnetic field
inside and outside the current-carrying solenoid?
b) State two factors on which magnetic field produced by a current-carrying
solenoid depends. How does a solenoid behave like a magnet?
c) Give any two points of difference between alternating current and direct
current.
SECTION E
Q.no. 37 to 39 are case - based/data -based questions with 2 to 3 short sub - parts.
Internal choice is provided in one of these sub-parts.
37) In a concave mirror, the nature, position and size of the image formed depends on the
position of the object in relation to the pole, the centre of curvature and focus. The
image is real for some positions of the object and virtual for another position. The
image is either magnified, reduced, or has the same size, depending on the object's
position. In a convex mirror, irrespective of the position of the object, the image will
be behind the mirror.

OR 1m
b) Define focal length of a spherical mirror.
c) Draw a ray diagram to show the formation of an image by the mirror used by a
dentist. 2m
38) On the basis of reactivity of different metals with oxygen, water and acids as well
as displacement reactions, the metals have been arranged in the decreasing order
of their reactivities. This arrangement is known as the activity series or reactivity
series of metals.
The basis of reactivity is the tendency of metals to lose electrons. If a metal can
lose electrons easily to form positive ions, it will react readily with other
substances. Therefore, it will be a reactive metal. On the other hand, if a metal
loses electrons less rapidly to form a positive ion, it will react slowly with other
substances. Therefore, such a metal will be less reactive.
a) Name any two metals which cannot displace hydrogen from dilute acids. 1m
b) Arrange the metals in the ascending order of their reactivity. 1m
Na , Al , Cu, Fe, Zn
OR
b) What are ionic compounds?
c) Why are metals generally not found in their free state? Name a metal and a
non-metal which exist in their free state. 2m
39) Tissue culture is an important tool in plant research laboratories and industries to
produce plants and plant-based compounds on a large scale. The technique uses
a small fragment of plant or plant tissues to grow a whole plant out of it.
Tissue culture uses a property of plant cells, called “totipotency”. Each plant cell
has the power to develop into any type of cell and a complete plant provides all
essential requirements and a suitable environment.
a) Define totipotency. 1m
b)‘Tissue culture can be considered a type of asexual reproduction’. Justify. 2m
c) List any two parts of the plant that can be used for tissue culture.
