1.0 INTRODUCTION
The inter-semester Practical Training is established by the creative arts department to be

conducted by third year students who are located to different stations. The Practical Training

began on 3 March 2023 and ended on 24th March 2023. The Practical training aims at providing

time and field which would help students attain practical knowledge to be applied in actual work

environment. Our practical training was held at morogoro kihonda at 21st century texitile

limited.

1.1 DAILY REPORT

4th march up to 22nd of march 2023

1.1.1 Research
In this two week focused I focused on our investigation that used interview method in

collecting data from two respondent which were tailors and seller of kanga and kitenge . This

report present the study from the two people who respond our question which are, what are the

component of kitenge and kanga that attract customer and promote sale ,which product on kanga

and kitenge that deter buyer from buying something ,what are more business opportunities are

there in kitenge and kanga design, what challenges threaten your kanga and kitenge company

Therefore these are the data presented analysis and discussion .

The first respondent

She was clarify the motif and pattern of kanga design that attract customs are those that have

culture or animals feature that seem to be beautiful in people eyes .the most most ther

opportunities from kanga and kitenge are forming clothes like gown and shirt for men .the thing

that deter buyer from buying kanga and kitenge are the size of kanga which claims many people

not likely small kanga ,also the light kanga that seem transparent in some extent not likely much

but also claim some of customer not like the criticism word from kanga so made difficult to them

to buy .

6
Second respondent

He respond question by clarifying the main attraction of kanga and kitenge design to customer is

quality of kanga and kitenge in the state of size. Also clarify the customer attracted through the

simplicity, beauty of kanga and kitenge that composed of many color purposely that based on

culture and imitate animal nature color. He also clarify the other opportunities from kanga design

are made clothes ,used to ardom the stage in different stage example fashion show and kitchen

party .he also claim the the most threat of kitenge business and kanga in Tanzania the first is

rising of price of kanga and kitenge also the importig of kanga from other countries made him to

loose market due to people demanding much the outside kanga and design due to the price and

their size .

1.1.2 Summary of the finding

According to this study we reveal the thing that attract more customer in kanga and kitenge

design is the size , quality ,price and nature pattern example of animals .

However our study revealed the other opportunities obtained from kanga and kitenge are used for

decorate stage from different event and used for made clothes

Also our investigation revealed the things that deter selling of kanga and kitenge are the small

size especially for kanga , criticism word for kanga and the quality of kanga and kitenge design

example there are some which are transparent

Also our study reveal the main threat of kitenge and kanga design are rising price and

importation of kanga and kitenge from neighbor countries .

1.1.3 Processing department

We were learning in processing department in making kanga and kitenge design which we used

the method of engraving rotary screens which involve different steps like rounding the mesh

,degreasing ,coting hand machine ,climatizing ,exposing (laser manual )or automatic using

computer then developing .after develop it require to endring glue then retouching using water so

that the design could seen then after that the design is ready to print through sending to machine t

1.1.4 Processing department

Also we were at processing department on which we were learned about how to make alredy

printed mesh to be used again .this process of recycling printed mesh involve the use of acid like

caustic soda and chrominic acid or remover to clean printed mesh so that can be used again .the

acid used are very dangerous to human body so it need a lot of precaution in doing like wear of

irone gloves helmen and mask because even the smell of the acid is very dangerous to the body

.the chrominic acid Is puted in a pit and then the the printed mesh is puted in the tip for a some

8
time depending on the number of printed mesh puted on the tip and the amount of chrominic acid

Figure 2 how screen mesh recycling

.The figure show up the pit which the printed mesh puted ready for recycling

Also we were going to meet with the designer which we were learn their ways that their used to

made design for kanga and kitenge design .we discover their only used adobe photoshop in

making the design because photoshop provide more freedom of color separation more than other

software and also because it have ability of duplicate design so that it can be easily printed in the

machine

1.1.5 GARMENT SECTION

The garment section have five department which are cutting, knitting ,weaving, printing and

packaging .We were at garment section which we were learn from cutting of fabrics in which

after processing of already fabrics it should be stayed after 24 hours so that it can be well drying

.then after drying is were starting marking the drawing of garment that want to made after that is

checking where there is special official who check the marking so that to avoid mistake in

cutting .then cutting process start using the different machine like straight cutting machine

which have speed of 2850 per second which have ability of cutting 200 light fabrics at the same

time

Also there is bending knife machine which this are used to cut small part like color and the last

is binding knife machine which are used to cutting small clothing pieces STRAIGHT ST

also we went to printing section and we observe different types of printing and how their done to

garment example screen printing, heat transfer and embroidery printing which practiced used

1.1.6 Spinning and weaving

At spinning process section i learn how cotton processed into fabrics from initial raw state.it

involve different steps which are blow room which involve mixing opening and cleaning of

cotton. Secondly are carding which involve orient fibres in the same axis, remove short fibres

,grind remained seed ,maintain silver count cleaning and produce silver .third is preparation

which involve improve evenness, remote dust ,maintain silver covent, observe right silver count

then ring spinning system and open spinning system then require to speed frame in order to

reduce thickness of sliver then ring spinning which it require to observe correct yarn .the

followed step are post spinning which clearing of fault ,big yarn package production ,doubling

and twisting yarn as per requirement .further process are to weaving and knitting

Figure 7 cotton spinning

Figure 8 weaving process

12
1.2 LESSONS LEARNED
Firstly, I gained exposure on how to prepare a fabrics until to be kanga or kitenge .making kanga

and kitenge require a lot of stage .The first stage is was in spinning then weaving then

processing and finally printing

Secondly I learned different ways of cutting fabrics using machine something that save time in

cutting many fabrics for garment

Thirdly I gained exposure of different printing method like embroidery printing using

embroidery machine screen printing using automatic rotary corousel printer and roller printing

Fourthy I gained understanding on kind of fabrics used for made trouser t shirt ,color for t shirt

example the fabrics used to make color should be the thin fabrics not light ,woven can be used in

made trouser ,some of form six t shirt made o sport fabrics and suit woven pv suit for made suit

Fifithy I gained exposure on knitting for already garment like round neck t shirt and form six t

shirt

Sixthy I learned how to work in cooperation example in packaging and knitting always people in

teamwork in order to accomplish the work

13
1.3 CHALLENGES, SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATIONS
1.3.1 Challenges
One of the major challenges is that the PT station have is lack of enough time to get much

experience in done learn .different activities associated with textile industry example we were

learn about all steps of spinning and weaving in one day .Also we were learning about all

processing activities of making kanga and kitenge design in one day something that made

difficult to us to gain enough knowledge because it involve many steps but we learn for short

period of time

Lack of relevant tool and equipment for industry like irone gloves that made us to fail to practice

straight cutting machine and also relevant software like the master of embroidery

Lack of good learning environment for learning example in spinning and weaving there a much

noise which make difficult for us to listening well the information we were given by our

instructor .

1.3.2 Conclusion and recommendations

The University of Dar es Salaam should ensure student get like one monthl in PT station so that
they can acquire well all things and get enough experience that can enable them to
However The university of Dar es salaam should buy some little machine for printing like
embroidery machine ,and other types of printing machine so that can enable them to have a good
knowledge and experience of of printing
Also the government should provide some money for field for student so that it can enable them

to get their needs in easier way
