Think About These:
• What are the evidences of an informed intellect
and decision-making that lead to truth?
• What happens if a person is not knowledgeable of
the Moral Law or of moral teachings?
• What are the evidences that free will guides a
person to help the less the less fortunate?
• How can you check if your intellect leads you to
the truth and your free will is capable of guiding
you to love others?
BASIC CONCEPTS ON THE
INTELLECT AND FREE WILL

• A reasonable mind and free decision-making set

the human person apart from all being.
• A person can have a deep and high level of
thinking and freedom to make decisions for the
good and right action.
BASIC CONCEPTS ON THE
INTELLECT AND FREE WILL

• .Thinking is a human process that you go through

to understand things or events.
• Through this process, you can know, evaluate,
check, and interpret information gathered, for
instance getting facts about viral news on social
media.
BASIC CONCEPTS ON THE
INTELLECT AND FREE WILL

• . Free will is the ability to freely decide whether to

choose or reject what ought to be done based on
gathered information and understanding of the
mind.
BASIC CONCEPTS ON THE
INTELLECT AND FREE WILL

• The two concepts, intellect and free will, are

intertwined and are not in isolation.
BASIC CONCEPTS ON THE
INTELLECT AND FREE WILL

• With your free will, you can reflect on what you prefer or
would like to do based on what you have thought about.

• Your mind can analyze, assess, and judge the things,

events, or circumstances that are presented as good or bad
to your free will.
BASIC CONCEPTS ON THE
INTELLECT AND FREE WILL

• Many people do what is contrary to the truth because of

their lack of information about what is right and good.
BASIC CONCEPTS ON THE
INTELLECT AND FREE WILL

• Many intellectuals who are very good at understanding and

explaining things but whose free will is not strong enough
to choose what is good, so they are led to do otherwise.
BASIC CONCEPTS ON THE
INTELLECT AND FREE WILL

• When something is based on truth, it is most

likely good, and it does not harm people.
BASIC CONCEPTS ON THE
INTELLECT AND FREE WILL

• Truth is seen in the merits of righteousness,

like how it is right and just that you first
validate the truthfulness of a viral news before
you decide to share it on social media. Your
decision can help stop or spread news of this
kind.
BASIC CONCEPTS ON THE
INTELLECT AND FREE WILL

• You obtain this capacity by developing

righteous values or ethical behavior and moral
living. You do not just accept information if you
have evidences that show otherwise.
Raising the Level of
Using the Intellect and
Free Will
Raising the Level of Using the Intellect and Free
Will

What is the difference between a dog and a

person looking for food when they are
hungry and must eat in order to relieve their
hunger?
Raising the Level of Using the Intellect and Free
Will

Upon seeing food, the dog would eat it quickly, unmindful of

whoever owns it or whether it is clean or not.
Raising the Level of Using the Intellect and Free
Will

On the other hand, the hungry person would first think of a

way to find food. If he/she finds any food, he/she would first
check whether he/she can eat it, especially if someone else
owns it.
Raising the Level of Using the Intellect and Free
Will

• As a person, you can understand, use language, make

inferences, and plan for your future
• As a person, you have the capability to interpret events and
observations. At a higher level of inference, you can form
deeper concepts about life, purposes, beliefs, values,
morality, community, and justice..
Raising the Level of Using the Intellect and Free
Will

•For instance, knowing that corruption is

morally wrong even if for personal wants,
may keep you from doing this evil deed.
Stages in the Use of
the intellect and Free
Will
Stages in the Use of the intellect and Free Will

• First stage: The mind identifies a situation and the goal is

right and good. The free will in turn agrees with a simple
choice according to the goal. It may also not agree or may
change the situation identified.
Stages in the Use of the intellect and Free Will

• Second stage: The mind determines that the purpose is

attainable and is within human power. In the meantime, the
free will has the intent to achieve the purpose through ways
and means.
Stages in the Use of the intellect and Free Will

• Third Stage: The mind guides and reveals different ways of

achieving the purpose. In the meantime, the free will
accepts a way or may ask for other ways.
Stages in the Use of the intellect and Free Will

• Fourth Stage: The mind identifies the best way for the
situation. The free will chooses the best method defined by
the mind.
Stages in the Use of the intellect and Free Will

• Fifth stage: The mind orders what is best to do. The free will
uses or controls the body or thinking that is required.
