1. When a battery of emf 12V is connected to a resistor 𝑅 = 300Ω, the current in the circuit is
0.0399A. Determine
a) the internal resistance of the battery,
b) the power dissipated in the internal resistor and
c) the power dissipated in the 𝑅 = 300Ω resistor.

2. When a power source of emf 9V is shorted, a current surge of 400A is measured. Calculate the
internal resistance of the power source.

3. The power dissipated in a resistor 𝑅 = 500Ω when it is connected to a 24V power supply of
internal resistance r is 1.1513W. Compute the value of r.

4. When a power source of emf 𝜉 is connected to a 𝑅1 = 100Ω resistor, the current in the circuit is
found to be 0.059988A. When R1 is replaced by 𝑅2 = 50Ω, the current rises to 0.1195A. Find the
values of 𝜉 and the internal resistance r.

5. The potential difference across an internal resistor of a battery is 65.276 mV when the battery is
connected to a 220Ω external resistor. When the same battery is connected to an 800Ω external
resistor, the potential drop across the internal resistor is 17.987 mV. Calculate

a) the internal resistance r,

b) the emf of the battery and
c) the power dissipated in the external resistor when the external resistor is (i) 220Ω
(ii) 800Ω.
