EBSQ examination dates in Breast Surgery and Surgical
Oncology 2022 released
In cooperation with the European Board of Surgery, Surgical
Oncology Division and Breast Surgery division of the Union of Eu-
ropean Medical Specialists (UEMS), ESSO organises annually Pro-
fessional Examinations in both Surgical Oncology and in Breast
Surgery. The European Board of Surgery Qualification (EBSQ) cer-
tifies the level of up-to-date knowledge, skills, and general compe-
tency necessary for the optimal treatment of cancer patients.
The EBSQ Examination dates in Breast Surgery and Surgical
Oncology 2022 have been released. Application is now open on
the UEMS website until end of April 2022. This year, the Surgical
Oncology exam will be held for the first time in French and Dutch,
in addition to English, German and Spanish.
The EBSQ examination dates for Breast Surgery and Surgical
Oncology 2022 are scheduled as following:
EBSQ examination in Breast Surgery

MCQs/ web-based Written exam: 24th of June 2022.

Oral exam: 1st & 2nd of October 2022 in Athens, Greece (or
virtual or hybrid exam, depending on COVID situation).

Deadline to apply: 30th April 2022.

EBSQ examination in Surgical Oncology
Surgical Oncology exam is available in 5 languages: English,
German, Spanish, Dutch and French.

Written exam in English, Spanish, French and Dutch: June 17,
2022, 12:00 CET online.

Oral exam: 22 October 2022 in Bordeaux, France (or online,
depending on COVID situation), alongside ESSO 41 Congress.

Oral and Written exams in German language will be held onsite
during the week 12e19.09.2022 in Hamburg.

Update on ESSO core curriculum
In October 2021, an update on ESSO Core Curriculum was pub-
lished in EJSO. This expanded version reiterates and updates the
core curriculum structure needed for current and future candidates
who plans to train for and eventually sit the European fellowship
exam for the European Board of Surgery Qualification.

Textbook of Pancreatic Cancer
The Textbook of Pancreatic Cancer: Principles and Practice of
Surgical Oncology was published in 2021. Co-edited by two prom-
inent members of ESSO Education & Training Committee: Prof. Kje-
til Soreide and Associate Prof. Stefan St€
attner, the textbook consists
of 85 chapters, covering curriculum core to the standards of knowl-
edge expected for candidates for the fellowship exams in HPB and
Surgical Oncology.
