The Benefits of using the Computer, Typing and Building Skills

When you're at school you'll probably be wondering, is what I'm learning relevant to my future?
The answer is YES - but there's a lot of learning that can be done outside the classroom too and
that's where building skills comes in.

People are often surprised to find that doors open when they possess skills, they've taken for
granted - like efficiently using the computer and typing. Learning KEYBOARD SKILLS can
become a great asset to your employability and it's now becoming part of a broader 'using
technology' skill. Mastering the keyboard will allow for efficient use of a computer.

The benefits of using the computer and typing are not just mechanical. Some benefits are:
 Reading, spelling and punctuation improve
 Concentration tends to be enhanced
 Presentation of work is of a higher standard
 You'll be able to work independently when starting a job

Skill building and updating your skills provides flexibility throughout life, not just when you
finish school - it can help prepare you for university, or for reintroduction to study or work.
People who have taken a break to travel or raise a family often find it useful to revisit their
computer and typing skills and update them if necessary.

Employability Skills Framework (skills that are beneficial when seeking employment)

There is broad agreement that everyone needs a set of skills and attributes that will prepare
them for both employment and further learning. The key skills identified in conjunction with
the personal attributes that make up the Employability Skills Framework are:

 communication skills that contribute to productive and harmonious relations between


employees and customers.

 teamwork skills that contribute to innovative outcomes.

 initiative and organising skills that contribute to long-term and short-term strategic
planning.

 self-management skills that contribute to employee satisfaction and growth.

 learning skills that contribute to ongoing improvement and expansion in employee and
company operations.

 technology skills that contribute to effective execution of tasks.

The Computer and Typing skills that are taught in this program will serve as a STRONG
FOUNDATION WHILE YOU ARE IN SCHOOL AND AFTER YOU GRADUATE. It is
important that you do your best to master the skills outlined in the course. Superior knowledge of
these skills will only be to your benefit in the future.
