TASK DESCRIPTION

Is there anything more engaging than where you, the


reader, get to make the decisions?

“Choose your own adventure” stories allows you to be actively engaged in the
story and to play an active role by making choices that determine the outcome
of the plot and the actions of the lead characters, and they can be a lot of fun! How about creating your
own branch and ending to an existing story?

In order to better appreciate how CYOA stories work and to understand the characteristics of CYOA
stories, it is useful to closely examine its characteristics.

For this task you will be given two excerpts; one from the CYOA story and one from a normal short story.
Your task is to compare and contrast the features of a CYOA and a normal short story. You will be given
one lesson in class to write this, and some time prior to become familiar with the extracts.

Steps to critically analysis:


1.You are to closely examine the excerpts that will be provided in class and identify and annotate the
characteristics of the two types of short stories in the excerpts.(Ai; Aiii)
2. Using your notes and annotations from step 1, write 1-2 paragraphs comparing and contrasting the
characteristics of the two types of stories. We will provide structure for you to use as a guide (Aiv ; Diii)

i. identify and explain the content, context, language, structure, technique and style of text(s) and
the relationship among texts
iii. justify opinions and ideas, using examples, explanations and terminology.
iv. evaluate similarities and differences by connecting features across and within genres and texts
