Peter Schreiner:
Advanced Coordination and Agility Training
Introduction:
1) Coordination – the basis of success and a key skill
2) Coordination training means:
simple (learned) movements - under varying conditions
3) Coordination training should not be based on the dull repetition of given
sequences of movements. Variation is the key point.

The most important points in coordination training:

9 Variation
9 Precision and correction
9 Concentration
9 Motivation
9 Demands must fit to the level of ability of the group

Main points of my practical sessions:

1) Test: “Limits of Coordination Abilities”
2) Learn, control and adjust movements
3) Rhythm and balance in strange situations
4) Good orientation in complex situations

Technique-oriented coordination training

9 Drills with two players (heading, passing, side volley)
o 2 hurdles
o 3 hurdles
o 4 hurdles
o with a turn and shooting

9 Drills with tree players

o without a turn
o with a turn

9 Speed and Reaction for Soccer Player

9 Complex Drills

Peter Schreiner: Combination Play for Advanced Players

Introduction:
Top teams like Real Madrid, Arsenal and Bayern Munich show us how to play successful attacking
soccer.
ƒ As soon as a team gains possession of the ball all the players switch from defence to attack,
give the others no time to regroup.
ƒ They explode gaps in the opposing defence with lightning speed and penetrate the opposing
penalty area with just a few, usually one touch passes.
ƒ Most goals are scored after less than 5 passes.
ƒ Short combination play and precise passing even at high speed, under pressure of an
opponent are the key skills that characterize successful teams.

How can the necessary passing precision be coached?

How can the basic conditions for perfect combination soccer be created?
Topics of the presentation:
ƒ One touch passing and fast combination play
ƒ wall passing

Coaching drills:
1) 1 – 2 and forward pass in a group of 4
2) One-touch pass into the path of a runner
3) Passing in a triangle and in a Square
4) Wall passing in a diamond
a) Basic drill
b) Variation 1: running to the other cone
c) Variation 2: Pass to his right and runs to his left.
d) One-two in a diamond

5) One-two in a small square

Peter Schreiner: Combination Play with Finishing

Introduction:
Top soccer teams pass the balls up to 400 times during a game. Passing is therefore the most
frequent occurring action in soccer. Accurate passes suited to the game situation are a key
element of successful attacking soccer. Players need an excellent passing technique.
Yet in soccer passing technique is not the only factor that makes the difference between winning
and loosing. The ability to combine confidently and directly also plays an important role.

Important factors:
ƒ Adjust to the abilities of the players!
ƒ Variations of the coaching drills
ƒ Direction in which the drills are carried out
ƒ Distances between the players

Questions:
ƒ How can finishing skills be integrated into complex coaching drills?
ƒ What is the best way to organize a coaching session focussing on motivation and
effective finishing drills?
ƒ How can he control the coaching process to ensure that the players systematically learn
and improve technical and tactical elements of the game?
ƒ How running and passing lines are synchronized to each other.
ƒ How can the players be put under pressure?

Coaching drills:

1) One-touch passing in a square

- basic drill
- Combination with a shot at goal (+ opponent)
- Change of starting position
- Competitive game

2) Y-Drill
- basic drill 2 midfielders (1 defence, 1 offence) and 2 strikers.
- shooting at goal (7 players + 2 goalkeepers)
- forward passing/crossing
- double pass at the beginning
- overlapping

3) Playing over the third man

- basic drill
- combination with shooting

4) Competition 4v4 or 5v5

- in a square with 4 neutral players
- on 4 goals with 4 – 6 neutral players
