Observations: Lydia noticed that the plants in the garden grew taller and healthier
than the plants indoors. He was curious to know whether the light was affecting the
height of the plant.
Hypothesis: Plants in direct sunlight grow higher and healthier than the plants
indoors.
Aim: To determine whether direct sunlight affects the growth height of plants
Apparatus:
● Measuring cylinder
● 3 seed trays
● syringe
Materials:
● Soil
● Water
● Red bean seeds (Same seed from the same pack)
Method:
1. Obtain the apparatus and materials listed above
2. Place the same amount of soil into each of the 3 seedling trays
3. Plant 10 red bean seeds (2 cm) in the depth of the soil in each of the 3 seedling
trays.
4. Then using a measuring cylinder measures (5ml) of water and watering each
seed using (5ml) of water and repeat this process every day for the period of 14
days.
5. Then place each of the 3 seedling trays into designated locations one in direct
sunlight, another in indirect sunlight and lastly in no sunlight.
6. Observe the height of the plants over the period of 14 days measure and then
record each plant's height and place it into the tables. 1,2, &3.
Variables:
Contant: Seeds, volume of water and same amount of soil
Responding: Height
Expected Results:
Expected results are that the seedling tray that was placed into direct sunlight will
grow tall.

Limitations: Weather conditions can affect the light intensity & Animals/insects
can interfere with the seedling.
