A warm welcome to the website of Atal Medical & Research University, H.P. (AMRU).

AMRU has been established by the Government of Himachal Pradesh through the enactment of
‛The Himachal Pradesh University of Health Sciences Act, 2017’ with the aim to bring the existing
Medical Colleges, Dental Colleges and other Health Institutions under the control and supervision
of the University to ensure the uniform standards of teaching, training and research in all the
streams of Health Sciences in the state. Till now various institutions imparting training in different
Medical/Dental and Para Medical streams were affiliated to Himachal Pradesh University,
Shimla, which is a well-established conventional State University. However, with the rapid
increase in the number of Institutions/Colleges offering various courses related to Health Sciences,
the need to have a separate university exclusively regulating these institutions, cannot be
overemphasized. The establishment of AMRU has fulfilled this requirement.

The Goal and Mission of the University is to provide a uniform comprehensive structured
curriculum for all the courses and the programs that would come under the ambit of the University.
The university would ensure that ample infrastructure is created for affecting research in all the
streams of health sciences.

AMRU is working towards making it as one of the best Health Universities in the country by
utilizing Computer and I.T. Technology, so that important functions of the University such as
registration of the students, the conduct of various examinations, evaluation of papers, publication
of results and other related activities is made available to all concerned without hassle, thus
making full use of technology. The University is working hard to publish the results of the various
examinations conducted by it in a shortest possible time by ensuring to implement the time line
fixed by the University.

Health Science is ever-changing and every now and then new techniques, diagnostic methods and
treatment modalities keep changing in the pursuit of providing the best medical treatment to ailing
humanity. In order to fulfil the objective of creating highly skilled and knowledgeable human
resources, the University envisioned establishing a fully equipped ‘Medical Education
Department’ to impart training and skills to different levels of teachers and trainers.

I am happy to note that, AMRU is now offering various academic programs such as UG, PG, DM,
Mch. and PhD. etc. in the faculty of Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, Pharmacy, the Indian System
of Medicine and other Para Medical Sciences. The constituent Medical College once established
and other affiliating institutions of the University shall aspire to be the role models for other
Institutions to follow in terms of quality of teaching, training and patient care.
