RITUXIMAB INFUSION PROTOCOL

Patient Name: Age:


Diagnosis: Date:

Dose of Rituximab= 1000mg


Each vial contains 500mg/50ml

Total dose advised by Doctor:

Admit the patient in for Rituximab infusion

Nursing orders:

Monitor the BP, Temperature, Oxygen saturation of the patient before starting the infusion
Monitor BP, Temperature, Oxygen saturation every 30 minutes

Pre-medication 30 minutes before infusion:

1. Inj. Solucortef 250 mg IV STAT, (Keep another Solucortef at bedside)


2. Tab Panadol 2-tab STAT
3. Inj Avil 50 mg IV STAT

Infusion Orders

1. Add 50 ml of Rituximab in 200 ml of normal Saline to make a 250 ml of Solution. Now


each ml equals 2mg of Rituximab. (Add Rituximab gently, do not shake, use sterile
technique).
2. Start infusion at the rate of 25ml/hr for 30 minutes.
If no reaction, increase to 50ml/hr for 30 minutes.
If no reaction, increase to 75ml/hr for 30 minutes.
If no reaction, increase to 100ml/hr for 30 minutes.
Continue at this rate.
3. Once one vial is infused, prepare the second vial on last maintenance dose.
4. In case of any reaction, stop the infusion and inform Doctor.
5. Keep Resuscitation trolly at bed side.

Note: Signs of infusion reaction are:


1. Low BP (Hypotension)
2. Rash on body.
3. Wheezing, chest tightness.
