Dance

❑ It is man’s natural and primitive means of expression.

❑ It has been part of the life of every tribe, society, or nation.

❑ It is not only an individual or group experience but also


considered as a cultural mirror.

❑ It is defined as an inner impulse of man to rhythm or music


expressing his/her feelings, moods, sentiments, or any
human experience.
DANCE FORMS
CREATIVE RHYTHMS

It is an end product of exploration and


improvisation of movements as children learn to
move the parts of their body and use them as an
instruments of expression.
FOLK or ETHNIC DANCE

It is a cultural form handed down from generation to


generation.

It communicates the customs, beliefs, rituals and


occupations of the people of a region or a country.
SOCIAL AND BALLROOM DANCES

The setting of social and ballroom dance is a social


gathering with formal atmosphere

It is generally held in evenings and the participants


are usually in formal attire.
RECREATIONAL DANCE

It includes dance mixers, square dance, round and


couple dances.

Many of this dance have simple patterns and


combinations of walking steps, polka step an the
waltz step.
CREATIVE DANCE

It is the highest form of dance.

The dancer or choreographer expresses his feelings


or emotion, ideas and interpretations.

This a dance with a definite form, a beginning and


an ending

BODY
It is the mobile figure or shape, felt by the dancer, seen by others.
Dancers manipulate their body to create lines, shapes, forms.

ACTION
It is any movement included in the act of dancing.
It also includes pauses and moments of relative stillness.
It can include steps, facial movements, lifts, and everyday movements.

SPACE
It refers to the area through which the dancer’s body moves.
Level: High, Medium, Low
Direction: Forward, Backward, Diagonally, Sideways
Shape: Circles, Squares, Triangles, Curve, Straight or Free form
TIME
It is the duration of the movement.

ENERGY
It helps describe how dancers are moving.
It also helps identify the emotions and intentions attached to a dancer’s action.
