LET’S MAKE CHOCOLATE FUDGE!
Materials Needed:
Chocolate fudge is one of our all time favourite activities, because it is such a delicious treat as well!
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Put butter, chocolate and sweetened condensed milk in a microwave safe bowl.
2. Put bowl into microwave for 3 minutes, bringing it out after each minute to stir and
make sure that nothing has stuck to the bottom.
3. Once melted, take bowl out of the microwave and mix thoroughly until smooth.
4. Line a baking dish with lining paper.
5. Pour the mixture into the dish and put it in the fridge for 2 hours. When it is firm and
fully set, cut it into squares and serve!
6. This can be wrapped in lining paper and tied with ribbon as a lovely gift idea too!

two extra items every time you visit the supermarket
together and place it in until the box is full. Take a look
at the local food bank’s website to see the exact list
of what they are most in need of this year. It is quite
likely not as obvious as you might expect for example
sanitary products and tinned custard often top the list!
ACTIVITY:
LET’S MAKE WRAPPING PAPER AND GIFT TAGS!
Materials Needed:
Plain paper
Cookie cutters in Christmas
themed shapes
Metallic, green or red paint
Paper plate
Ribbon/ twine
Small squares of plain card
Hole Puncher
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Lay out your chosen sheets of paper. Natural brown looks the most effective but
white is a good choice too!
2. Put a small amount of each colour paint you wish to use on a paper plate, then dip
one of each shape cookie cutter into them.
3. Use the cutters to print straight onto the large sheets of paper, either in a pattern or
just free-style!
4. Print individual shapes onto small squares of card to make the gift tags.
5. When dry punch holes in the gift tags and thread through ribbon or twine to finish!
This time of year can just be magical for some kids, but
unfortunately there are thousands of children living in
temporary accommodation or below the poverty line for
whom Christmas is a miserable time of year, and presents
are scarce. Thankfully there are many wonderful initiatives

Materials Needed:
4 craft sticks
PVA/ white glue
Sequins

Small buttons
Oil pastels or crayons
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Start by decorating the four craft sticks with whatever combination of lovely crafting
materials that you choose! We decided to colour some of ours with oil pastels first
before adding collage bits over the top and sticking them down with white glue.
2. When they are dry, use either hot glue or white glue to attach the four corners
together, then add your drawing or photograph behind, securing it to the sides with
tape!

afternoon of crafting while watching a Christmas movie or listening to music together! And always
an excuse for plenty of sparkles and messy good fun too (as if we need one!)
e a gift
INSTRUCTIONS:
Here are a few simple ideas for making your Christmas cards:
1. Find some great Christmas foam shapes or stickers in the store and use them to adorn some little folded
pieces of card. Fantastic for fine motor skills too and for keeping kids involved with lots of concentration!
These can also be turned into lovely bookmarks and given as a child-made gift, double bonus!
2. Cut a Christmas tree from green paper/ card and decorate with shiny star stickers to make the
ornaments. These can be stuck onto folded card and cut around to make them stand up. This is a lovely
craft for concentration and fine motor skills, plus it does not require much adult supervision!
3. Simply draw a gorgeous little Christmas scene onto card and then paint white glue around the border
and sprinkle glitter and sequins over the top. Once dry, shake of the excess and you are left with a truly
gorgeous, authentically child-made creation! What is lovely about this idea is that each and every card
will be unique! Alternatively, if all that drawing is too much hard work, you could simply photocopy or
scan the original drawing, then just add glitter and sequins to the printed versions! These are my favourite
type of kids’ art work!

How about drawing up a list with the kids of who they
would love to give one to, and then write and hand them

ACTIVITY:
LET’S READ CHRISTMAS STORIES!
Materials Needed:
We all love the special bonding and memories that are made by reading to kids on our laps and
each one of us can name favourite books that we heard when we were little. There is something
about Christmas and winter stories that is especially wonderful as they seem so comforting and cosy
to read, often sharing times of togetherness or spreading kindness.
INSTRUCTIONS:
Each year we select our favourite Christmas story books and put them into a basket ready to read
throughout the month of December. How about turning off all other distractions (including putting
away our phones!), finding special cosy blankets, grabbing a hot chocolate and snuggling up
together to read a whole heap of books.
It is such a lovely way to connect and make memories, yet costs us nothing but our time! You can
find lots of suggested Christmas book lists on Amazon and Pinterest if you need inspiration.

ACTIVITY:
LET’S GO OUT IN THE DARK TO SEE CHRISTMAS LIGHTS!
Materials Needed:
A form of transport!
Oh one of the great joys of winter time is that when it gets dark everything inside seems so cosy and
warm. As Christmas approaches, the twinkly lights start to appear outside everyone’s homes and in
the shopping streets and it is early enough to go and see them before bedtime!
INSTRUCTIONS:
This is such a fun tradition to start and you can keep it as simple as you like or ramp it up a notch to
the next level too! To keep it simple, tell your kids to find their super cosy clothes and then jump into
the car (or bus) and then drive around the neighbourhood to see all the lights! This is particularly
good for younger children who can’t stay awake late.
To level up, put your kids in their Pyjamas and just as you’re putting them to bed, present them
each with a special ticket saying “Christmas Lights Tour!” Then jump into the car with a little bag of
treats or a hot chocolate in a travel cup, and drive around to see as many lights as possible before
they get too sleepy! This idea is sure to create some amazing memories!
A bright smile!
at everyon INSTRUCTIONS:
e
we see! Simply make eye contact and truly smile at everyone you
see today! We are often reminding out kids to actually
look at adults when they talk to them so this goes well with
this encouragement too.
ACTIVITY:
LET’S SING CHRISTMAS SONGS!
Materials Needed:
Do your memories of Christmas include singing together as a family? Or perhaps listening to a carol
concert or singing your heart out at your nativity show at school? Those memories fill me with lovely
feelings of cosy togetherness and really mark the beginning of Christmas each year.
I know that my own kids are desperate to sing Jingle Bells as early as July, so they are super popular
songs!
INSTRUCTIONS:
Why not choose some favourite songs together and then sing them to each other or in front of
family and friends? You could light some candles (or carry battery operated tea-lights for little ones)
and sing outside for others to hear!
Maybe a local group is hosting a Christmas music sing-a-long or a carols by candle light event. This
could be the year to start a brand new tradition together and make some beautiful memories.
ACTIVITY:
LET’S MAKE SALT DOUGH CHRISTMAS ORNAMENTS!
Materials Needed:
1 cup salt
1 cup plain flour
Up to 1 cup of warm water
(add gradually)
Mixing Bowl
Spoon
Rolling Pin
Combine the salt and our then pour in the water gradually, stirring until it has become dough-like and
not too sticky. There should be no residue left on your ngers when you touch it. Knead it on a oured
surface for a few minutes to make it soft, workable and stretchy, like you would with any dough.
INSTRUCTIONS:
Roll out the dough until it is approximately 1cm thick and then use any cookie cutters to press out a
range of shapes. We have used Christmas trees, stars, hearts, gingerbread men and reindeer over the
years!
Poke a straw near the top of each one so that ribbon can be threaded through later to hang on the
tree.
Lay them on some lining paper on a baking tray and put them into a pre-heated oven at 100 degrees C
(approx 200 F) for 3 hours. The oven is essentially drying and hardening the ornaments slowly, rather than
“cooking” them, so be carefully not to turn it any higher or they may rise or bubble up! If they’re still a
little doughy in the middle after that time, turn them over and put them back for another hour.
Leave them to cool and them decorate them using acrylic paints, PVA/ white glue and glitter. The
acrylics work as a sealant and keep the colours strong and beautiful! When they are dry, thread through
with thin ribbon or twine and hang on the tree! You can write the date in the back to remember when
they were made too, adding a special memory to the occasion.
ACTIVITY:
LET’S MAKE GINGERBREAD COOKIES TOGETHER!
Ingredients:
Ahh, gingerbread cookies! One of the best pleasures of Christmas and so evocative
of the smells, cosiness and comfort that comes with the season. Baking with kids can
sometimes be stressful but we believe we have found the simplest ever gingerbread
recipe for you to try together. It makes a lovely, soft type of gingerbread which looks
beautiful when decorated and packaged up as a gift too.
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Add the flour, ginger, cinnamon and bicarbonate of soda into a mixing bowl and stir
until combined.
2. Add the butter and mix with a beater or fingertips until it resembles fine
breadcrumbs.
3. Add the sugar, syrup and egg and mix until it becomes a soft dough.
4. Wrap in cling wrap and place it in the fridge to firm up for 30 minutes.
5. Pre-heat the oven to 180 degrees C (350 F).
6. Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface and cut shapes approx 1 cm thick.
7. Lay them on a lined baking tray and cook in the oven for 10-12 minutes then place
them on a cooling rack.
8. When completely cool, use white icing/ frosting to decorate (or eat just as they are, yum!)

ACTIVITY:
LET’S MAKE PAPER CHAINS
Ingredients:
Scissors
Glue sticks
INSTRUCTIONS:
These are truly the easiest Christmas craft and simply require some brightly coloured or
decorated Christmas paper (wrapping paper will do!)
Cut them into equal length and width strips and set them out with some glue sticks,
then show your child how to fold the first one into loop, sticking it to form a circle.
They then link the next ones through, one at a time, until they make a ling enough
chain to decorate the room!

ACTIVITY:
LET’S CUT PAPER SNOWFLAKES
Ingredients:
Scissors
Paper snowflakes are another of those Christmas crafts that we all remember from
childhood. And the simple joy that accompanies that first time the paper is unfolded to
reveal the created pattern is just priceless!
If you, like me, cannot always remember the exact way that you need to fold the paper to
create a 6 sided snowflake then I have made a handy photo step-by-step to remind you!
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Simply take a rectangular piece of paper and fold in over to make a square. Cut off the
extra strip and remove.
2. Fold the square the other way so that there are now two folds running across the middle.
3. Fold it back over the first one, then fold again so that the top piece goes two-thirds of
the way over the top. Repeat this from the other direction.
4. Then cut around the top to make a curved edge.
5. Now you’re ready to add the pattern by snipping into the cone shape from all sides. Be
as simple or elaborate as you wish!
6. When you’ve finished cutting shapes out, unfold the paper to reveal the beautiful
snowflake pattern. And then make plenty more!
7. You could now either paint over glitter glue or glitter and use some fine thread to sew
through and hang it up. Or simply stick them on windows instead! These looks just
gorgeous on display.

we can donate some of our warm cosy clothing
and blankets to homeless shelters and charity
shops. A sleeping bag would be a good option too.
ACTIVITY:
LET’S DRINK HOT CHOCOLATE AND MARSHMALLOWS!
Ingredients:
Hot chocolate
Marshmallows
Squirt cream
Sprinkles
Special mugs
Ah hot chocolate and marshmallows! One of the special winter treats we all love so
much. Add marshmallows, sprinkles and even squirt whipped cream for a truly indulgent
treat!
I often include a new Christmas themed kiddie mug for each child in either our Advent
or Christmas Eve boxes, ready to use for the whole period. There are so many available
this time of year and they’re usually very affordable too. This just makes it an extra
special event for sure!
INSTRUCTIONS:
This activity is as simple as it seems yet one that should be on everyone’s bucket list for
Christmas time! You could make the drinks together, and enjoy them with a favourite
Christmas movie or while listening to stories together. You will be sure to make lovely
memories as you do.
Other special occasions include birthday weeks when the pink Wish
Maker Kindness Elves love to come and make the celebration extra
magical for the birthday girl or boy! Kindness Elves are fantastic to
bring out for a couple of days at a time when there’s a bad patch of
sibling squabbling or everyone is in need of some encouragement in
another way! The positive effect of their little letters always inspires
kids to show more love and kindness to themselves and others too!
If you're a teacher who would like to continue this tradition with your
class at school then you’ll love our Kind Classroom eBook packed with
activities, lesson ideas and more resources.
