SAP Note

622450 - DBMAN284 with queries; RSRV check of time dimension negative

Component: BW-BEX-OT-OLAP (Analyzing Data), Version: 2, Released On: 21.05.2003

Symptom
When you execute a query, warning DBMAN 284 is issued:
"Data of Infocube & 1 is potentially incorrect, time dimension inconsistent"
The RSRV test "Consistency of the time dimension of an InfoCube" returns errors.

Other Terms
Time dimension, time characteristic, RSRV, partitioning, derivation, fiscal period, fiscal
variant, RSCV, calendar day, fiscal year

Reason and Prerequisites

Preface:
The inconsistencies detected here are not due to SAP errors, they are due to data being
loaded that is inconsistent in itself.
Up to BW 3.0B Support Package 12, SAP did not check the time dimension for inconsistencies,
the data is not modified by this check.

A "special" use of standard time characteristics (such as 0CALDAY = delivery date,0CALMONTH

= month in which the customer paid) is inconsistent in this sense. Time characteristics in
the time hierarchy should not have different semantic significance. In a case like this, you
must create separate characteristics (such as ZSHIPDATE, ZPAYMONTH), ...

The InfoCube contains inconsistent entries in the time dimension.

As already documented in a test, this fact is not necessarily problematic. If the InfoCube
is not partitioned in accordance with a time characteristic and does not contain any non-
cumulatives, the inconsistent time dimension is completely unimportant.
If the InfoCube is partitioned, performance may be affected due to time characteristics not
being derived.
If the InfoCube contains non-cumulatives, the inconsistent time dimension is fatal, and the
message DBMAN 284 is issued with queries.

Solution
If you have not already done so, perform the RSRV test referred to above. If this test shows
errors, the InfoCube is marked as a cube with an inconsistent time dimension.

You can correct incorrect entries in the time dimension in several ways:
If only a few entries in the time dimension are incorrect, you may be able to find the
affected requests and delete them from the Infocube.
You can then execute the repair function of the test, which deletes dimension
entries of the time dimension that are no longer used.
If the time dimension is consistent after that, the marker is reset with a new
check of the Infocube. The InfoCube is correct once more. The corresponding data packages
must be reloaded with correct time characteristics.
If a large number of entries are incorrect, the safest method is to reload the InfoCube
with consistent time characteristics.
