Introduction
This highly interactive programme is designed to introduce doctors to the importance of human factors in
clinical safety. The course will consider the definition of human factors and aims to equip doctors to recognise
and respond effectively to non-clinical factors which contribute to performance in themselves and in teams and
systems. It is suitable for any doctor looking to understand effective steps they can take to improve patient
safety in their own practice and in the organisation in which they work

Course Objectives
Understand the definition of human factors and their impact on clinical safety.
Develop an understanding of some key non-technical skills that can improve patient outcomes.
Be able to recognize individual and group contributions to performance and consider how you might
optimize these in your workplace.
Reflect a scenario to generate solutions that improve patient safety in line with the Patient Safety Incident
Response framework – PSIRF
Identify one area you can take away to work on in your current workplace.
