INTERIOR BATHROOM - NIGHT

BATHROOM MIRROR. CHRISTINA STEELE, 20s, pulls her head into

frame as she ties a high and tight ponytail. Following shots
accompany the V.O. Christina smoothing the quilt on her bed.
Christina pouring a glass of wine. Christina overdoing
mascara. Christina checking a figure skating blade. Christina
draping a sheet, tied in a noose, over an unseen fulcrum.
Christina applying lipstick. Christina adding rat poison to
the glass of wine.

ALEX BRANOV (V.O.)

America's girl, just seventeen
years old; three world games and
now the Olympics under her belt

MARA LOWSKI (V.O.)

And here she goes, a great start to
her short routine, already knocked
four elements out, Alex

ALEX BRANOV (V.O.)

She is not one to mess around, Mara

MARA LOWSKI (V.O.)

She absolutely is not, as she eyes
the gold here, her only competition
is the other American, Kennedy
Kline

ALEX BRANOV (V.O.)

A little iffy there; and now here
she is, going into the final turn,
I don't think she has enough
speed...

Saving the triple for last, Alex is
a bold move- oh and she falters a

ALEX BRANOV (V.O.)

Oh no! That is going to cost her!

INTERIOR LIVING ROOM - SAME

Christina moves to a television.

MARA LOWSKI (V.O.)

She is not getting up, Alex...

She stops a DVD player, takes the disc & casually snaps it,
dropping the pieces. Opening a case, she puts a new disc in.

CHILDREN LAUGHING (V.O.)

The TV lights her face, she smiles,
watches a moment, then pauses the
disc and goes back to the room with
the noose.

INTERIOR BEDROOM - SAME

Standing on something unseen so she can reach, she adjusts

the noose and slowly slides it over her head, caressing it. A
LOUD KNOCK is heard at the front door.

INTERIOR LIVING ROOM - SAME

CHRISTINA (V.O.)
Come in!

The door opens and ALEX BRANOV, 40s, enters. He looks around.

ALEX BRANOV
Christina? ...Hello?

A shadow darts across a wall, quickly getting his attention.

Christina appears, wearing a skating costume.

CHRISTINA
Please have a seat

Alex sits, and gets out a notepad and pencil. Christina is

holding a wine glass. She motions to another room.

CHRISTINA (CONT'D)
Not there.

Confused, Alex gets up and heads to the bedroom. She hands

him the glass and he takes a sip of wine on his way. Created

INTERIOR BEDROOM - SAME

Seeing the noose, he sets down the wine and gets his notepad.

ALEX BRANOV
This really is your last
interview... Christina brings the
skate blade up to his neck. With
her other hand she holds a phone
out.

CHRISTINA
Press dial and then say exactly
what is written. Do as you're told
and I won't slit your throat! She
holds out a piece of paper, he
takes it.

ALEX BRANOV
This is Alex Branov. Christina
called me to her house for an
interview and now she's threatening
to kill herself! Christina takes
the phone from his hand.

ALEX BRANOV (CONT'D)

What the hell are you doing?

CHRISTINA
Knocking out some elements...

She lowers the blade and moves away. He looks nervous. After
a moment, he moves quickly for the door but stumbles. Unable
to stay up, he is on hands an knees. He starts retching.

CHRISTINA (CONT.) (CONT'D)

Told you I wouldn't slit your
throat

INTERIOR LIVING ROOM - SAME

There is another, louder knock at the door. It opens.

BARRY JENKINS
Christina?! Stay where you are;
don't do anything, I'm coming in!

CHRISTINA (V.O.)
You're on time, for once...

Sounds of quick footsteps, Barry moves his head each time he

hears them, tracking her. The footsteps stop. He comes to a
door and opens it. Stairs lead to a dark basement. He pauses

for a moment as he sees a figure at the bottom. He turns the

light on and there is nothing there. He closes the door, and
as he turns, Christina is there, startling him. She brings a
skate up and slits his throat. As he grasps around, holding
his neck, she looks down at him.

CHRISTINA
Terrible bodyguard...worse cop...

INT. CHRISTINA’S HOME - DAY

Christina speaks into her phone.

CHRISTINA
Hey, Kennedy.

KENNEDY (O.S.)
What the hell do you want?

MATT (O.S.)
Is that Christina? I’m calling the
cops!

CHRISTINA
I heard that, Matty. You might want
to rethink that.

KENNEDY (O.S.)
You’re breaking the court order.

CHRISTINA
I’m looking at some very racy
photos of you two. Looks like Matt
really spiced things up after you
swooped in on him.

KENNEDY (O.S)
Fuck you.

CHRISTINA
If you want to stay America’s
little sweet tart, it’d be wise to
bring some cash. And now. Five
thousand should keep me quiet. You
know where to find me.

INT. CHRISTINA'S HOME - LATER

BANGING on the door from outside.

MATT
Christina!

CHRISTINA
C’mon in!

MATT and KENNEDY, both 20’s, rush into the home, searching
for Christina.

MATT
Where are you?

CHRISTINA
In the kitchen!

INT. KITCHEN - SAME

Matt hurries in and Christina approaches him immediately,

thrusting the wine glass and ice-skate into this hands.

MATT
What are you doing?

CHRISTINA
Me? What did you do, Matt?

Christina moves so Matt can see the bodies of Alex and Barry
lying on the floor.

CHRISTINA (CONT'D)
Your fingerprints are on the
weapons!

Christina steps behind Matt, grabs a rushed ax she had hidden

behind the fridge.

Kennedy storms in.

KENNEDY
You better not put anything online!

CHRISTINA
I have to protect myself from the
murderer!

KENNEDY
What?

Matt throws the weapons and faces Christina. She swings the
ax and into his groin.

Blood squirts.

Kennedy punches Christina in the back. It barely phases her.

Kennedy runs out of the kitchen. Christina chases.

As the chase ensues through various rooms/hallways, we hear

Alex and Mara’s voiceover...

ALEX
America’s Girl, Christina Steele,
on the ice. If she attempts a
double axel, it should be early in
this program. She has speed,
approaches...jumps! The height is
there, nice flow out, perfect
landing.

Kennedy gains distance away from Christina.

MARA
It seems that Steele is slowing
down, running out of steam so soon.

ALEX
I gotta be honest, I think it’ s a
wonder she’s even able to skate.
She’s been surrounded by
controversy, first, the scandal
concerning her long time bodyguard
and then accusations of stalking
her ex-boyfriend. You really can’t
underestimate how important mental
health is for these athletes, Mara.

Kennedy rushes into a dark room. Christina walks quieter down

the hallway, getting closer to the dark room.

MARA
Christina is looking to close big
here with a combination triple lutz
and triple toe.

Christina inches closer to where Kennedy hides...listens.

ALEX
She’s approaching...and...jumps!

Kennedy lunges, shoves Christina to the floor. The axe slides

across the hallway.

MARA
She’s fallen hard! She’s not
getting up! The hope of Steele
winning the U.S. Figure Skating
Championship is gone!

Kennedy rushes to the axe, while Christina rises and runs

into a different room.

Kennedy follows quickly, ready to strike back.

KENNEDY
You still blame everybody for you
fucking up.

Kennedy leads with the ax into the room...and Christina

quickly forces the bed sheet/noose over Kennedy’s head, then
runs into the other end to tighten the slack so Kennedy can’t
free it from her neck.

Christina pulls hard. Kennedy’s feet barely touch the floor,

and she fights to breathe.

KENNEDY (CONT'D)
You were America’s girl, Christina.
And now look at you, you’re insane.

CHRISTINA
I might be insane, but don’t let
the outside fool you...I’ll always
be America’s Girl.

Suddenly, Matt crawls into view and pulls on Christina’s arm.

MATT
Kennedy--

While still holding the sheet, Christina stomps Matt’s head

and torso, over and over until he collapses for good.

Kennedy reaches for (a door handle, or whatever is available

to grab as a brace in the room) and pulls herself slightly
away from Christina.

ALEX
It’s difficult to watch Christina
lose her grip on the championship.
 8.

Christina loses grip of the bed sheet.

INT. CHRISTINA'S HOME - DAY

The same room.

Dangling feet sway above the floor. Someone is hanged.

As police SIRENS increase in volume, getting closer to the

house, Kennedy wipes her brow and exits the room.

MARA
This of course will open the door
for Kennedy Kline to replace her as
the U.S. Figure Skating Champion.
