ABSTRACT

This existent study on the MSMEs business landscape in the Philippines, particularly the small
enterprises in Tacloban City, examines and proves a significant correlation between two important
variables, which are the usage of cashless payment transactions in the realm of the digital world and the
monthly income of small enterprises. The Diffusion of Innovation (DOI) theory of E.M. Rogers (1962)
serves as a guide on determining the major factors to be tested. In this paper, the researchers utilized a
quantitative correlational research design, having a total of 80 participants which were provided by the
Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to answer the questions behind the presence of the e-commerce
platforms in the market today. The research design allows for a statistical analysis of the efficacy of
cashless payment avenues as the new medium of trade. The survey instruments that were disseminated
utilizing the Likert Scale were divided into three categories: a.) convenience, b.) efficiency, and c.) cost-
effectiveness. Through the hypothesis testing and through Pearson’s analysis, each part resulted into a
positive retort and claimed how potential drawbacks can still affect the usage but still confirmed its higher
preposition in terms of cost-effectiveness. Lesser transportation expenses also resulted to a positive
outcome, the same as to the third major indicator which is the efficiency. This field of study appears that
the higher income the small enterprises can generate, there are also higher chances of them putting into
consideration adopting into the new strain of commercial trade which particularly is the utilization of
cashless methods or embracing e-wallets into their daily economic scheme.
