Questions
Given that, EF II BC , and ∠EAB = ∠FAC, Consider the transversal AB and
AC,

∠ABD= ∠EAB ….(alternate interior angles)

∠ACD= ∠FAC ….(alternate interior angles)
Therefore, ∠ABD = ∠ACD….(1) >

Now Consider ∆ABD and ∆ACD,

< Dictate and write,

∠ABD = ∠ACD….(1)
∠ADB = ∠ADC = 90o …(Given)
AD = AD ….(common side)
Thus, ∆ABD ≅ ∆ACD….(AAS Congruence rule) >

Now by CPCT rule, we can write that,

AB = AC .…(CPCT)
2x+3 = 9y+3,
2x - 9y = 3 - 3,
2x - 9y = 0
x = 9/2y….(2)

BD = CD .…(CPCT)
x = 3y + 3….(3)

By solving (2) and (3), we can easily find the value of x and y.

Substituting x = 9

2
y in eqn(3),
9
y = 3y + 3
2

9y = 6y + 6
9y - 6y = 6
3y = 6
y=2
Substituting y = 2 in equation (2)
9 9
x = y = × 2 = 9
2 2

Questions

5.
In the given isosceles triangle 𝐀𝐁𝐂 with 𝐀𝐁 = 𝐀𝐂, the bisectors of B and C
intersect each other at P, join A to P. Show that PB = PC.

AB = AC …...(1)
∠B = ∠C (Angles opposite to equal sides) ................(2)
∠B = ∠PBA + ∠PBC…..(3) (given)
∠C = ∠PCA + ∠PCB….(4) (given)
PB bisects ∠B and PC bisects ∠C (given)
∠PBA = ∠PBC …..(5)
and ∠PCA = ∠PCB …..(6)

Using (2), (3), (4) we get

∠PBA + ∠PBC = ∠PCA + ∠PCB…..(7)

Using (5), (6), (7) we get

2∠PBC = 2∠PCB
∠PBC = ∠PCB
Now in ∆PBC ∠PBC = ∠PCB (proved above)
PB = PC( sides opposite to equal angles)

Triangles: Revise & Solve Important Exam
Questions
Given that lines AB = AC and AD = AB which means AD = AC
To prove ∠BCD is a right angle
Consider the ΔABC shown in the Figure,
In ΔABC,
AB=AC….(given)
∠ACB=∠ABC….(angles opposite to equal sides are equal)......(1)
[1 mark]
Now In ΔACD,
AD=AC….(given)
∠ADC=∠ACD….(angles opposite to equal sides are equal)......(2)
[1 mark]
In ΔABC,
∠ACB + ∠CAB + ∠ABC = 180 …..(3) o

Using (1), (3) we get

2∠ACB + ∠CAB = 180 o

∠CAB = 180 - 2∠ACB……(4)

o

[1 mark]
Similarly in ΔADC,
∠CAD= 180 - 2∠ACD……(5)o

Also ∠CAB + ∠CAD = 180 (BD is a straight line)

o

[1 mark]
Adding eq. 4 and 5 we get
∠CAB + ∠CAD = 180 - 2∠ACB +180 - 2∠ACD
o o

=> 180 = 360 - 2(∠ACB + ∠ACD)

o o

=> - 180 = - 2(∠ACB + ∠ACD)

o

=> 90 = ∠ACB + ∠ACD

o

From the given figure we can tell

∠BCD = ∠ACB + ∠ACD
=>∠BCD = 90 o

[1 mark]
