Centuries old Semkhor yet to see light of development
➢ Semkhor, which is more than 400 years old, is yet to see the light of
development when it comes to road communication, education, health,
electricity and other modern necessities. This has become a matter of
concern for the conscious citizens of the area.
➢ Semkhor, comprising 13 villages, is the most discussed area of Dima
Hasao district due to its unique culture and the residents' day-to-day
struggle due to lack of infrastructure and development. It attracts
people from outside the area for research work, but remains stagnant
for reasons best known to the authority concerned.
➢ The Semkhor constituency had been created in order to ensure
development of the area, and it has been represented by member of
autonomous council (MAC) Ranu Langthasa for the last 15years.
However, nothing has been done in the name of development, apart
from one village, which has been able to get road and electricity
facilities. Very recently, mobile phone networks have reached some
villages.
