Letter to Teachers/Coaches of Students Participating in Baby

Project:
Good Morning,

Psychology students will be participating in a Development Project in which they are required to carry
around a baby made from a sock for a week. The project is intended to allow students to engage with
the developmental stages in a hands-on fashion. This project will take place from Monday, 3/18/24
until Tuesday, 3/26/24.

Students have been instructed that they must bring their Sock Babies to class with them, but they
must leave the baby in a carrier on the floor or near their desk. Under no circumstances should the
baby be a distraction in class. If the baby proves to be a distraction, do not hesitate to take the baby
away and inform me of the issue. There will be appropriate points deducted from the project if this is
the case.

You are welcome to embrace the project as much as you would like. Feel free to ask the baby's
name, age, or current developmental milestones if you choose.

As always, I appreciate your help and support on this and all endeavors. Please let me know if you
have any questions/concerns.

Thank you.

Coaches, please work with any students to help them with this project during games & practices.
Choosing a safe place for them to leave the baby to “nap” is fine. Please let me know if you have any
questions. Amber.adams@cowetaschools.net

Letter to Parents of Students Participating in Baby Project:

Dear Parent(s)/ Guardian(s):

Your student will be participating in a Sock Baby Project that will enable students to better engage
with the material. We will be following the Baby’s progression cognitively, socially, emotionally, and
physically.

For a week (Monday, 3/18/24 until Tuesday, 3/26/24), your child will be asked to carry around a
Sock Baby as if they were parenting a child. The baby must be cared for at all times – they must be
being watched by your child or a designated babysitter. If you catch your child without their Baby,
please remind them of this assignment.

By the end of the assignment, it is my hope that they will have a better understanding of a multitude
of developmental concepts. Not only will they chart the Baby’s progression across a lifetime, but they
will also examine topics like parenting styles, attachment styles, and developmental conflicts.

I truly appreciate your support on this assignment, and please do not hesitate to contact me if you
have any questions or concerns.

Thank you.
