Dear Parents,

Welcome to the 2014-2015 school year! If your child is going into Kindergarten, this is an
exciting time for your child, although he/she may be a little apprehensive about coming.
This is also a time of mixed emotions for parents---joy that your child is ready for school,
but sadness because he/she is no longer a "baby"! The first day of school will mark one of the most
important milestones in your child's life. First Grade is also an exciting time! First Graders have hopefully
gotten into the routine of school and are ready to learn a lot in a new grade!
Be assured that we will do our best to make this school year an enjoyable time for your child, but
also a time filled with real learning. Please do not think your child will be just "playing" all day! The skills
we practice daily in kindergarten and first grade are the building blocks for your child's future success in
school and in life!
I would like to take this time to introduce myself. My name is Sheena Patrick. This will be my third
year teaching Kindergarten and First Grade at Faith Christian Academy. I graduated from Truett
McConnell College with a Bachelors of Science in Early Childhood Education.
Attached you will find a few things that will help you and your child better understand the procedures of
the coming year!
If you have any questions or concerns, you may call us at school (706-778-3360). I look forward to
getting to know all of you and anticipate a wonderful school year!
Sincerely, Mrs. Patrick

Snacks: Your child should bring a snack EVERY day! Healthy snack ideas include: crackers, fruit, granola
bars, cereal, popcorn. Small water bottles are great to pack along with your snack. No glass, no soda,
and no candy please!
Daily Accordion Folders: Your child will be bringing home a folder each day. It is important to read and
review the contents with your child DAILY. We will communicate with you about your childs behavior,
work habits, classroom events, newsletters, and homework assignments. Newsletters will be posted on
my website each Monday with new information and occasionally I will send newsletters home. Please
watch the website carefully. I will be using this means of communication to save paper as much as
possible. If you do not have access to the internet please let me know and we will work something else
out! Class work will come home in your childs folder each Friday. Use this folder to send us any notes
about changes in your childs transportation, academics, life, etc.
Lunch Money: If your child would like to eat in the lunchroom, please make sure to send the order and
the money ahead of time. Please do not send it the day of, for the meals usually are pre-ordered. All
money and orders are to be taken care of in the front OFFICE with Ms. Pansy.
If your child brings their lunch, make sure that if the food has to be microwaved that your child is
somewhat capable of functioning it. Microwavable foods are a hot lunch, however we have a limited
amount of time to eat so take into account that waiting on his/her food is taking time away from filling
their body with fuel. Also, no glass or candy.
Absent: You must bring a note if your child has been absent. If your child has been out of school due to
illness, PLEASE make sure that they are fever freewithout medication-- for at least 24 hours before
returning to school. Please make sure to send a note if your child is going to be absent, so this way we
may plan to send work home with your child or pre arrange a test if necessary. It is crucial that your
child is at school as much of the school year as possible, so that your child can continue to grow and
learn and reach their potential in all developmental areas!
Transportation: Please send a written note or a call, letting us know if your child will be changing their
afternoon ride home. We MUST have this to let them go. If it changes during the day, call before 12:00.
Birthday Policy Notice: On your childs birthday you may send in a healthy treat for that day. Most times
recess at 2:30-3:00 is the best time to have a treat, but please check with me prior to sending the snack
in order to plan the days schedule accordingly.
*Our Classroom Rules:
1. Follow directions (the first time they are given!)
2. Keep hands, feet, and other objects to yourself.
3. Be kind to other children and adults in the classroom. Show respect.
4. Take good care of class materials and clean up things when you are finished with them.
5. Always walk in the hallways and classroom.
6. Raise your hand when you need to share something with the class.
7. Use a soft voice in the classroom, save your big voice for outside.
Discipline Policy: If your child does not abide by these rules I will use logical consequences when class
rules are broken. Examples of logical consequences may include: Time away from the class for class
disruptions or bothering other children, Cleaning or repairing damaged property, Written or verbal
apologies for unkind behavior toward others, Walking back to the starting point and walking (instead of
running) in the building. My aim is for the consequence to be related to the misbehavior and act as a
solution to the problem. If classroom rules are severely or persistently broken, parents will be
contacted with a note, phone call, or conference. Child will also change clips on a behavior chart after
being warned:
Ready to Learn or Higher = Great Day!
Bee Careful = Warning
Think about It = More than one behavior warning! (5 minutes of recess taken)
Parent/Principal = Very difficult day! (10 minutes of recess taken)
These will be represented in the childs daily accordion folder in their behavior calendar. Please initial
under each on a DAILY basis. A child may be referred to the principal when the behavior prevents the
rest of the class form working in a safe and positive learning environment. Please do not hesitate to
contact me if you have any questions about this policy.

Conferences: During the year, there will be times when I would like to meet with you to discuss your
childs progress. At the end of each grading period, the school will close at 12 noon. This will be the time
I would like to meet. A sign-up sheet will be sent home prior to sign up for the 3 most preferred times.
However, if at any time you would like to sit down and speak about anything, please let me know. I
would love to talk with you, however PLEASE make sure to set up a time when I am available to give you
my full attention.
Homework Policy: Yes, students will have homework. Most nights, it will only be Words Their Way
(spelling) and Math, but sometimes if they do not complete their assignments due to goofing off they
will have additional subjects as well. Homework is an important part of learning, especially sight and
spelling words. Homework will be due on Fridays. Students will have from Monday to Thursday night to
complete it. For every day that homework is late it will get 5 points deducted, and the student will have
ti

Are you willing to volunteer?
There will be many opportunities for you to be a part of your childs kindergarten experience. We ask
that you do not volunteer or join your child for lunch during the first six weeks of school, in order to give

each other! After the first two months we would love to have volunteers who are willing to volunteer
time, resources, and expertise. Please answer the questions below to help us better understand what
