March 2019
A Peek at the Month!
Welcome to the month of March! This month we are preparing our classroom for our open house!
Our open house is scheduled for Wednesday April 24 from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm. We are creating
hot air balloons; two class books and some fun projects on “Rainbows”.

We also continue to work hard on the rules and routines of school. It sounds silly, but we spend a
lot of time learning how to play with toys, use the bathrooms, gets drinks, wash our hands, sit in
chairs, sitting on the rug, lining up, walking in a line, emptying our backpacks, taking care of our
belongings, greeting others, and using scissors, glue, pencils, and crayons. We are an active and
busy group it’s a group of 21 children. 

Yes, we are VERY busy at school. So, if your child seems to be a bit tired after school, now you
know why! Kindergarten is a time of growth, development, and work. Have a great weekend!!!

What’s Next?

Next week, we begin pre-writing skills such as appropriate grip, and making vertical, and horizontal
lines. We will focus on diagonal lines, circles, letters, and so on. In addition to the above we will
continue to:
 work on counting the numbers of sounds heard using a variety of classroom objects.
 count the number of words in a sentence by moving a cube for every word spoken
Math will include comparing and contrasting two objects that are exactly the same or not exactly
the same; counting forward and backward with numbers of 5; visual patterns within objects;
recognizing same number of objects in different arrangements; one to one correspondence; and
classifying into categories, just to name a few! 

Field Trip to the Animal Shelter!

On April 26th, we will be going on a field trip to the animal shelter. We will be leaving
school at approximately 8:30 am and returning at approximately 2:00. If you would like to
join us, you will need to provide your own transportation as we will not have enough
room on the bus. Trip information can be found on the permission slip in your child’s
folder.

Prior to this field trip, we will be learning about all of the pets that will be at the animal
shelter, as well as, learning how to care for them, what they eat and why they may or may
not be a good pet for your family.

Community News:

What is going on in our kindergarten community this month? This month we will be
collecting pennies for pets! We will donate our pennies to the animal shelter. This will help
the animals at the shelter and provide them with what they need.

Our project this month will be based on pets and the many pets that can be found at the
animal shelter. The animal shelter will have a contest for the most pennies donated!
Parents, please donate pennies to Bright Star Academy for the animal shelter. Thank you!

Staff Updates and News!

Congratulations to Miss. Shaina on completing her Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood
Education this month!! We are very proud of the hard work she has put into this and
achieving her goals. Congratulations Miss Shaina!
ABC’s of Kindergarten
Ask your child about his/her day at school. Try to ask questions that encourage more than yes-or-no
answers. What did you learn? Who did you sit with at lunch? What books did the teacher read to you?
Breakfast is available upon request. Kids learn best when they’ve had a nutritious breakfast. It’s
important for kids to get off to a good start every day. Please let me know if your child needs to eat at
school; oftentimes children say they’ve eaten because they’d rather play.
Conference signups will be available at Open House. The conferences are scheduled for November 12th
and 13th.
Dismissal is 6:00. Please be sure you have filled out the required paperwork.
Effort. Praise your child’s best efforts. Not every child progresses at the same rate. Let him/her know
how proud you are when your child has truly done his/her best.
Flip flops are not a safe choice for recess.
Giggles. We have lots of fun in kindergarten. Be prepared for lots of silly stories with accompanied
giggles
Happy Birthday! Please do not send in a treat for your child to share on his/her birthday. We will
celebrate each child’s birthday in the classroom in other ways.
Illness. Keep your child home if he/she is sick. Germs spread quickly in a classroom, and one sick child
quickly becomes many sick children.
Jot a note. Be sure to send a written excuse when your child is absent. Too many unexcused absences
can affect your child’s progress.
Know the rules. Be familiar with school rules, policies and dress code. Check for the code of conduct I
previously sent home in the packet.
Lunch menus are sent monthly.
Money should be in a sealed container and labeled with child’s name, amount, and purpose.
Notes should include names, dates, addresses, and so on.
Open House is on April 24th between 6:00-7:00pm. Find out what’s going on in your child’s class and
school, and look over his/her work samples.
Peanut free zone…be respectful of children with nut allergies. Show them you care and help them to
stay safe…avoid food products with nuts at school.
Questions. If you have any problems or questions during the school year, please feel free to contact
me. The best time to reach me is after the school day 2:30-3:30 by telephone, or throughout the day by
email (brightstaracademy.com). I look forward to working with each family to make this year an
enjoyable and smooth learning experience and transition into school.
Recess is outside everyday unless it is raining or below zero, so dress your child for the weather or
he/she’ll miss the fun!
Snacks can be brought from home or purchased from here every day. We do have snack time every day
in the afternoon.
Telephone calls to the classroom are welcome after 2:30.
Use your words…encourage your child to speak clearly and in complete sentences to express
themselves.
Volunteer and be a part of the Bright Star Acadamy Parents Organization. Active involvement in your
child’s school helps to promote success for him/her.
Website is a great place to learn more about our school, www.brightstaracademy.com and our
classroom too!
X-tra clothes (label them please) would be helpful in case of an accident…they do happen!
You can influence your child’s progress by staying abreast of what is happening in the classroom by
reading the web page, www.brightstaracademy.com, regularly. Having a positive attitude about learning
and school makes a difference too!
Zzzzz. Make sure that your child gets plenty of rest. Setting and keeping a bedtime is a wonderful gift
you can give to your child. It will help them to be alert and ready to learn each day.
Please check out the class web page regularly for updates, information, pictures, and more
