WASH TANK MAINTENANCE

PROCEDURE

Frequency- once per year (usually between Christmas and New


years)

DURATION- 3 days.

PROCEDURE

1. Order chemicals-
2. Dump tanks from drainage spout into pit (1/2 of the tanks)- and at
the same time start to pump into large holding tank. Holding tank
will be full when water starts coming out of the over flow pipe.
3. Treat the water in the holding tank and then let settle for 24 hours.
4. Repeat the dumping of the tanks for the remaining liquid. Treat
the liquid with the chemical, let settle for 24 hours, test and then
dump into sewer
5. Remove risers from the wash line and then power wash the tanks-
start from inside and then work from outside.
6. Replace all broken and worn nozzles. Remove scale from risers.
7. Replace risers and then start to fill the tanks with city water to just
over half the tank.
8. Heat water to 100 degrees and then add 1 ½ drums of CHEMFOS
51F
9. Top up tank with city water.
10. Test Titration in chemical tank 5.0 – 6.0. If titration is under
5.0 add CHEMFOS 51F and then check Titration after ½ hour.
11. Adjust P.H. to 5.5- 6.0 (specifically for Step Plates)
