Sedimentation (solid-liquid separation) is one of the most important stages in the field of waster water treatment
for removal of suspended and colloidal matters.
In conventional water and wastewater clarification systems the suspended solids and colloidal matters are
removed by gravity settling in a clarifier after coagulation and flocculation. The hydraulic loading in conventional
clarifier is about 20 m3/m2/day to 36 m3/m2/day. This results in a very high plan surface or foot print area. The depth
of conventional clarifier is about 2.5 to 4.0 meters and the detention time is in the range of 2 to 4 hours. Thus a lot
of time is required in conventional clarifier to settle flocs/ settleable solids. To collect these solids from the bottom,
large mechanical scrappers are required which make the clarification system very costly.
An efficient sedimentation system increases the settling capacity while maintaining smaller system size. High
rate sedimentation is now being adopted in various modern water and wastewater treatment plants. The term
high rate settlers refer to shallow gravitational settling devices with detention periods of the order of 10 30
minutes. The efficiency of high rate settlers is also more than that of
conventional clarifiers.
The unidirectional flow in the tubes eliminates any possibilities of mixing currents. COOLDECK provides its
experience in building support systems for tube settler assemblies. The chevron shape section and the
trapezoidal shaped assembly have been proven to be the most effective configurations in settling systems. The
shape and assembly also provide for easy access for maintenance.

Applications areas for COOLTubes Tube Settler Systems include
Primary settling in wastewater treatment plants (suspended and flocculated solids)
Secondary (biological solids) settling in wastewater treatment plants
Solid-liquid separation in potable and industrial process water treatment plants,
Anaerobic digesters (restrict loss of solids)
Ash handling units in thermal power plants
Process industry (material recovery from wash/storm water)
Oil-water separation
Model: TS60
Plan Settling Area: 12 m2/m3 (at 60 slope)
Cross Sectional Area:74 x 84.5mm
Hydraulic Radius:1.28 cm
Model: TS120
Plan Settling Area: 11 m2/m3 (at 60 slope)
Cross Sectional Area:120 x 44 mm
Hydraulic Radius:1.5 cm
TS120 gives a wide cross section area per tube. Even
though it provides a slightly lower surface area than TS60, the
profile has advantages when it comes to tube blockage or
support constraints.
