Definition of a Report Text


A report text is a type of document written by someone or group of people to announce the result of
an investigation or announce something to the proper authorities. The information given in a report
text is very general information.

Social Function of a Report Text
The purpose of a report text is to present information about something generally. It generally
describes the way things are with reference to arrange of natural, manmade and social phenomenon
in our environment, such as: mammals, the planets, rocks, plants, countries of region, cultures,
transportations, and so on .

Related to Revolusi Industry 4.0, in the process of learning report text, I use media (power
point /images in delivering material). It means that we have introduced techonolgy/media to our
student, and using the media to make lesson more clear and the students will interested in
studying and pay attention to it.

Teaching students about application letter is very important. It because the student will search a
job/ working after they have graduated from their school/ university. At school, students will be
learnt about how to make a good application letter. Writing a job application letter is an
important part of the process of applying for a job. A cover letter will give you a special
impression, which will differentiate it from other applicants. A good job application letter will
expand your chances of getting more interview calls. Conversely, if a poorly written cover letter
will reduce your chances of getting a job.

By showing picture / media I think the best way to make our students understand about
application letter is "writing strategy. It makes our students easier to memorize it.
Procedure text is a text that explains or helps us how to make or use something. Its social
function is to describehow something is completely done through a sequence of series.
Communicative purpose of this text is to describe how something is made through a sequence of
actions or steps.
Two Kinds of Procedure Text that my students have to learn :
1. Texts that instruct how to do a particular activity
For example : recipes (food), rules for games, science experiments, road safety
rules, how to do it manuals.
2. Texts that instruct how to operate things
For examlpe : how to operate printer, a machine, the photocopier, the
computer.

An Invitation Letter is a document that presents a formal request for the presence of an
individual, a group of people or an organization at an event. An invitation letter may be formal
or informal. It could be printed on paper or sent via email.

Invitation letters can be used for a variety of events such as weddings, graduation ceremonies,
annual dinners, anniversary parties and birthday parties. They could also be used to invite guest
speakers, keynote speakers and workshop facilitators to special meetings and events.

The significant Lexico-grammatical Features of formal invitation letter are :

 Phrasing in third person point of view


 Use of present simple
 Special phrase for invitation (cordially invite, request the pleasure of your presence, solicit
your gracious presence, etc)
 Day and date are spelt out.

I usually bring some wedding and birthday invitation card for my students to show them as
real example and I used 5w1h to make sure students can get all information from the text.
