The hip pop movement was started in the late 1970s in New York by underprivileged African
American and Latino teenagers

Because of unemployment they started working in discos and outside events to earn a bit of money.
There they learned to use turntables and started to have an MC to introduce their act. The MC
helped to make the event fun, encouraging people to dance. And very quickly these MCs started to
talk over the music all the time and this is how rap was born.

Later on in the early 80s, young rappers started to talk about issues is their live, crime, poverty,
violence, injustice and that's how socially-conscious rap began.

Hip pop includes djing , rapping, breakdancing and graffiti art.
