Yes, Rose. Share your thoughts in our class. Ma’am, last time, we discussed about Pan Gu
who created the world in Chinese mythology.
Very well said, Rose. You really listened
from our past discussion.
1. MOTIVATION
Before we proceed, let us have an activity
entitled “CRACK THE CODE”. In here you
will be using the letter and number keys as
your guide in cracking the code to reveal the
phrase.

But first, take a look in this example.

There are five blanks and each blank has a

corresponding number below. As you can see,
number 9 corresponds to letter C, then 2 is for
H, 16 is for I, 18 is for N, and 15 is for A,
therefore, the answer is CHINA.

Did you get it? If you understand our

instruction and example, give me a virtual
thumbs up and raise your virtual hand if you
did not so I can repeat it. (The students gave a virtual thumbs up.)
I’m glad all of you understood it.

Now, let’s proceed. (Reveal the blanks.)

Who wants to answer the first word of the
phrase? Just raise your hand. Jeana raised her hand.

Yes, Jeana. Ma’am, the.

You’re right, Jeana!

How about the second word? Isabela raised her hand.

Yes, Isabela. Ma’am, the second word is creation.

Very good, Isabela! You got it right.

Next, who wants to decode this one word
consists of two letters? Gem raised her hand.

Okay, Gem, what’s the word? Ma’am, of.

Correct! Next! John raised his hand.

What’s your answer, John? Ma’am, the word is humanity.

You’re absolutely right, John.
How about this one? Jerry raised his hand.

Yes, Jerry. Ma’am, in.

Very good, Jerry!

Now, let’s see what is the second to the last
word. Who wants to answer? Vincent raised his hand.

What’s your answer, Vincent? Ma’am, Chinese.

Exactly, Vincent!
And the last word. Any guess? Myles raised her hand.

Yes, Myles. Ma’am, mythology.

You’re correct, Myles!

Now you successfully decoded the phrase.
Who wants to read the phrase that was being
revealed? Karl raised his hand.
Go ahead, Karl. Ma’am, the phrase that was being revealed is
“The Creation of Humanity in Chinese
Mythology”.
Very good! All of you did a good job and
thank you for your active participation, class.

B. Presentation of the Lesson

Okay, class. Now that we cracked the code
and the phrase was revealed, I know that you
already have an idea on what we are about to
discuss. Give me a thumbs up if you agree. (The students gave a virtual thumbs up.)
Wonderful.
I would like to hear your idea. Who wants to
share? Lexie raised her hand.
Yes, Lexie. Ma’am, based on our previous activity, I think
our topic for today is all about Chinese
Mythology specifically about the creation of
humanity.
You’re amazing, Lexie! You are right!

C. Lesson Proper
You really have an idea on what we are about
to discuss. Our topic for today is all about the
creation of humanity. In Chinese mythology,
Pan Gu created the world and many centuries
after he died, a goddess created the humanity.

In order for you to fully understand it, lets

read and analyze the story entitled Nuwa
Makes Men.

But first, lets get to know who is Nuwa.

In Chinese mythology, Nuwa is the mother

goddess of all mankind. She is credited with
creating humanity. She is also the repairer od
the Pillar of Heaven, saving humanity from a
terrible deluge. Nuwa is typically depicted
with a human face and a serpent’s body.
When represented in humanoid form, she has
a lizard’s tail. When depicted together, Fuxi
and Nuwa typically have their tails
intertwined and hold the symbols of yin and
yang.

Without further ado, lets get to know how

Nuwa Makes Men. (The students gave a virtual thumbs up.)
Are you ready, class?

Pan Gu made the world as it is today. Many

centuries later, there was a goddess named
Nuwa who roamed this wild world that Pan
Gu left behind, and she became lonely in her
solitude. Stopping by a pond to rest, she saw
her reflection and realized that there was
nothing like herself in the world. She resolved
to make something like herself for company.

The creation of humanity started because of

Nuwa’s boredom and loneliness. And as a
result, she thinks of creating someone like
her.
Now, class let me ask you. Whenever you are
alone, do you feel the same loneliness like Ada raised her hand.
Nuwa or you feel other emotion? Ma’am, sometimes I feel lonely also like
Yes, Ada? What emotion/s do you feel? Nuwa and there are times that I feel happy
because I am able to have time with myself
alone.
Thanks for sharing that, Ada. Indeed we feel
different emotions when we are alone.
How about the others? What do you feel? Grace raised her hand.
Yes, Grace. Ma’am, every time I am alone, I feel that I am
free to do whatever I want.
I couldn’t agree more, there are really times
that when we alone, we are free to do things
we wanted to. Thank you for that, Grace.

Lets continue. Thomas, read the next part of

the story.
From the edge of the pond, she took some (Thomas reads it.)
mud and shaped it in the form of a human
being. At first, her creation was lifeless, and
she set it down. It took life as soon as it
touched the soil and soon the human was
dancing and celebrating its new life.

Thank you, Thomas.

How magical right? She created a human
from a mud.

Let’s continue. Arthur, please read.

Pleased with her creation, Nuwa made more (Arthur reads it.)
of them, and soon her loneliness disappeared
in the crowd of little humans around her. For
two days she made them, and still she wanted
to make more. Finally she pulled down a long
vine and dragged it through the mud, and then
she swung the vine through the air.
Than
k you, Arthur.
Class, what do you think happens next as
Nuwa swung the vine through the air?
Yes, Emily? Emily raised her hand.
Okay. How about the others? What do you Ma’am, I think many people were created.
think?
How about you, Gabriel? Gabriel raised his hand.
Ma’am, I think the number of people were
multiplied because the long vine can occupy
large amount of mud that is needed for the
Very well said, Gabriel. human creation.
I appreciate your answers Emily and Gabriel.
Let’s see on the next paragraph if you’re
right.

Camille, kindly read it.

Droplets of mud flew everywhere and, when (Camille reads it.)
they fell they became more humans that were
nearly as perfect as the ones she had made by
hand. Soon she had spread humans over the
whole world. The ones she made by hand
became the aristocrats, and the ones she made
with the vine became the poor common
people.

Thanks, Camille. Emily and Gabriel are right,

many people were created with the use of the
long vine.

Read the next part, Adam. (Adam reads it.)

Even then, Nuwa realized that her work was
incomplete, because as her creations died she
would have to make more. She solved this
problem by dividing the humans into male
and female, so that they could reproduce and
save her from having to make new humans to
break her solitude.

Thanks for reading that part, Adam.

Many years later, Pan Gu’s greatest fear came
true. The heavens collapsed because of the
battle between the god of water Gong Gong,
and the god of fire, Zhu Rong. As they
fought, there were holes in the sky, and the
Earth cracked, letting water rush from below
to flood the Earth.

Read the next paragraph, Christian. (Christian reads it.)

Looking upon the Earth, Nuwa was filled
with compassion for her children who were
suffering. The new creation of Earth had been
torn to shreds from the battle between the
water and fire gods. At other places, fire
sprang forth from the Earth, and everywhere
wild beasts emerged from the forests to prey
on the people. Nuwa drove the beasts back
and healed the Earth.

Thanks, Christian. Class, as you know, Pan

Gu created the world and Nuwa created the
humanity. Assuming that you are Pan Gu or
Nuwa, what will you feel and what will you
do when if you found out that the world you
created was destroyed and the humans were Derek raised his hand.
suffering? Ma’am, for sure I will feel sadness and pain
Yes, Derek. because those creations aren’t joke, they have
life especially the humans. And I will not
hesitate to help them whatever it takes.

Commendable answer, Derek.

Amanda, you continue the story. (Amanda reads it.)

To fix the sky, she took stones of many color
(red, yellow, blue, white, and black) from the
river and built a fire in which she melted
them. She used the molten rock to patch the
holes in the sky, and she used the four legs of
a giant turtle, Ao to support the sky again as a
pillar.

Thank you, Amanda.

And here’s what happened next.

After replacing the pillar and stopping the
deluge, Nuwa feel exhausted upon the Earth
and she soon lay down to die.

Now, you know how the humanity was

created in Chinese mythology.
Did you understand the story of Nuwa Makes (The students gave a virtual thumbs up.)
Men?
Its good to know that you understood the None, ma’am.
story. Yes, ma’am.
Do you have any questions, class?
Are you sure?
You really understood our topic for today.
That makes you excellent, class!

D. Generalization Nathalia raised her hand.

Now, who would like to give the gist of the Ma’am, the gist or main point of the story is
story if you really understood it? that, Nuwa, a goddess under Chinese

her to have a company and to ease her
loneliness.

Nicholas raised his hand.

That’s correct, Nathalia! Ma’am, Nuwa did not just create the humans

her own children.

Remarkable answer, Nicholas! Keep up the

good work.

It is undeniable that you really understood the

story and you learned something today.

E. Valuing Sean raised his hand.

Class, what is your greatest take away in this Ma’am, for me, my greatest take away in our
lesson that you can relate in your life? discussion today is, in our life, we are capable
Yes, Sean? to help and do everything, whatever it takes
just to make sure our love ones are safe and
protected just like what Nuwa did.

Ma’am, in the part wherein Nuwa never

Luna raised her hand.
Ma’am, for me, my greatest take away is the
You are absolutely right, Sean. What else? belief that “no man is an island”, we need
Yes, Luna? really need each other and other people can
make us joyful so being alone can make us
lonely like what Nuwa felt.

You have a great insight, Luna. Thanks for

answering.

I’m happy that you have some take away

from today’s discussion.
All of you are right. The story Nuwa Makes
Men does not only give us knowledge about
the creation of humanity but also it taught us
that in this world, we need compassion and
we need to help other people if we think we
can. And do not forget that we need other
people too just like what you have said, “no
man is an island”.
