We use That’s why to express reason, at the beginning of a sentence with a
stop (.) or semicolon (;) before it:
Her presence and recognition are constantly growing. That is why her birth date, 17th November, is the Sculptors and Plastic Arts National Day, in her memory.
We use so to express result or consequence. We use a comma (,) before so:
She became interested in sculpture, so she got a scholarship to study art in
Italy. (Result)
